After spending over $3000 for extra's like sealants we had to miss an appointment due to my daughter having a bad cough (that also kept her from school). After being a patient here for several years, they changed their cancellation policy with no notice, and charged me $50 for cancelling an appointment with more than 24 hours notice. They informed me it was now a 48 hour window, and they had called the previous day. I was traveling, and called at 8am in the morning to cancel an appointment in the afternoon of the following day, and was told this will cost $50. I did not receive an email or a text message offering me the opportunity to cancel, or informing me about this policy. I also never received any written information about the 48-hour-window. What a terrible practice, all of your patient families are working parents who are juggling a lot. read more

I did not yelp this dentist before visiting. I called hoping to get something before school starts and was able to come in the same day. My daughter and I arrived on time and were seen right away. The staff was friendly, even while this woman in the waiting area was freaking out and being rude, impatient and demanding. Some people are so entitled they can't even see beyond their nose. It's pitiful. Anyway, they handled that woman with care and calm. The assistant who saw my daughter was friendly and patient. The bedside manner at this office is truly professional and child-friendly! My daughter was scared but they calmed her fears and entertained her anxious chatter. Overall, I am so glad I found this place for my daughter. She will be a regular! read more

Dentist is the best!! She does an A++ medical job; while she helps you comfort you kid. When I started singing to my 1 year old. She started to sing along, while she was doing her dental work and my baby was screaming. Didn't sweat and didn't stop her from doing super medical work. And she answered all my detailed medical questions. Office staff is also super. Can't say enough. My older child had a rare dental issue. She researched the problem and got to the bottom of the issue where other dentists had failed. We had just moved to the area so I was new to her practice. Dr. Jessica and her staff made us feel right at home. And gave all that great first kid mom advice like what toothpaste is best and how to brush well. She even made a fun video for kids!! Can't say enough about this office. And parking was easy. read more

As you can see, I never post Yelp reviews but my experience with this office has been so over-the-top terrible time and time again that I felt it important to post a review. The fact that they are consistently 45 minutes late for each appointment is the least of the things I hate about this office. A few months ago, they tried charging me over $200 for NOT filling a cavity in my son's mouth after the dentist decided that he was too anxious for the treatment. It seems to me that at a pediatric dentist's office, they should be used to nervous children and could have/should have been able to fill the cavity. Beyond that, I was then expected to pay over $200 out of pocket for their decision NOT to perform the work when my insurance would have fully covered a filling. Today, I called because my son's camp requires the DC oral health form for him to attend. They are charging me TEN DOLLARS to email it to me - A FORM REQUIRED by ALL DC camps and schools. I then told the office that I had had enough with their outrageous payment policies and want my three children's dental records so I can go to a different practice. Not surprisingly, they are demanding that I pay $20 PER CHILD for their records. Each interaction I have had with this office makes me furious. read more

I have been trying to get my kids x-rays for over a year and half now, I emailed release form at least 4 times back only to be told over and over again that they never received it. A year plus later when I pretty much yelled at the receptionist I was told that there is balance on our account and that's why the records were not released!!! How about telling me about this when I asked for the records 1 and half year ago!?! Or when I called back 6 month ago? Or when you emailed me the release form first time and then again and again?! Then when I said I never got a bill I received a bill in my email for something I can't even remember if it was done or not as it was more then a year ago. When I said I want my records and then I will pay the balance. I was told again that until I pay the balance I won't get my records. Then I got another email with the release form request again and a note that "There is a $20.00 charge for dental records." Why I was not told about $20 fee to begin with and all those times I called and emailed!!!?! Finally when I screamed that I will leave most horrible reviews all over the place about this horrendous communication I was emailed the records, so I called and paid my balance. If you do not properly notify your customers about balance or fees how do you expect customer to react?! read more

Taking toddlers to the dentist is no fun. Let's face it. But.... Dr. Rubin and her staff are the best I could ask for. From the friendly folks at the front desk and the toys for kids to play with while you wait to be called (which honestly is never long!) to the way that staff talk through each tool and step with my daughter - it's all wonderful. My daughter loves flossing and brushing and it is supported by the team. We were there today while her staff cleaned two toddlers teeth. I'm amazed by these women. They kept their cool and sang wheels on the bus while cleaning and charting teeth. I'd highly recommend Capital Kids. Parking is easy, right in the building. read more

Capital Kids dentistry seems to cater to the well-off clientele of upper northwest DC. They charge $50 if an appointment is cancelled/rescheduled less than 24 hours before the time of the scheduled appointment. This practice is also charging $15 to cover their costs of personal protective equipment - which I find incredibly inappropriate given the current state of the economy; people don't need another financial obstacle to getting dental care. We changed to a new pediatric dental practice where there is no fee for changing an appointment last-minute (something that's really important when you have a practice dealing with kids!) and there's no fee for PPE. read more

Their number on the site does not work and goes straight to voicemail, when you arrive with mask and all they force you outside and only one parent is allowed with the children for the appointment! I took my four-year-old here all the way from Capitol Hill, and had the best experience. The front desk staff was helpful and attentive from my initial appointment phone call as well as in person. Good Morning, My daughter had a procedure done 6 months ago and I paid around $500 due to the insurance coordinator Wenona saying the service was not covered.  Later on I found out the insurance did cover it and paid the dentist office for the procedure.  I have requested a refund several times with Wenona for services rendered almost 6 months ago. My husband I have have been patiently waiting and Wenona the insurance coordinator has been stringing us along for months now. Wenona was suppose to call me back multiple times to reticfy the issue.  The last time I spoke to Wenona was Monday 12/6/2021 around 4pm and she stated she would call me back in a couple of minutes with my total refund amount. When I spoke with Wenona she explained that she requested my refund from Doctor Jessica Rubin several times and she forgot to send it. Wenona also explained that Dr. Jessica would be sending a check from her personal account  (which makes no sense) when I asked if I could have a refund via the same card I paid with.  At this point I want to speak to Dr. Rubin,  because the next correspondence will be a summons to Superior court for a small claims case. read more

Took both the 5-year-old and 1.5 year-old there, and the kids actually left happy and smiling. Dr. Jessica took her time getting to know them, explaining things to them and to me, and generally putting them at ease. Not only was she super friendly - my son calls her "The Happy Doctor" - she was somehow able to conduct an exam on my daughter, who won't even let me brush her teeth, without having her fingers bitten off! My kids are always excited to see Dr. Jessica and her team. When taking my two oldest for recent check-ups in the Covid era, I was incredibly impressed with the care they are putting into keeping all safe. There is plentiful PPE, they monitor how many people are allowed in the back (I was happy to not be with my kids with x-rays and it seemed the team was all the more efficient without me!), and hand sanitizer is everywhere. Extremely unhappy with this practice. My nearly four year old twins had a successful visit with Dr. Beth, but they forgot the toothbrushes she gave to them in the waiting room. They specifically asked for these brushes in the evening, so my husband made a special trip in the morning to pick them up. To our amazement, the receptionist refused to replace the brushes. I explained to her that they were important to the kids because they came from the dentist. The receptionist went back to check, and returned with the same answer -- "sorry, we cannot give you replacement toothbrushes." It is such a small thing, literally, but important for little ones. I asked her if it was worth it to lose two patients over these brushes, and she wouldn't budge. I let her know we wouldn't be coming back to the practice, and she said that is fine, and hung up on me. read more

Let me start by saying that I was very happy with Dr. Jessica BUT very unhappy with the unprofessional individual who answers the phone. My child had an appointment that the office sent me a reminder text at 2pm the day prior. I didn't read the text until about 5pm and realized that we had a scheduling conflict (this appointment was made 6 months prior at the previous office visit). I immediately called the office at 5:15 and left a voicemail so the office would promptly know I was unable to keep the appointment. The next morning the receptionist called to confirm my cancellation of the appointment and at that time I informed the receptionist I would like to reschedule the appointment. She told me I would have to pay a $50 fee because I was cancelling the appointment in less than 48hrs. I asked if I was informed of this policy and she told me yes and that I had even signed a digital form on my first visit to the office. I told her great and asked for the form to be emailed to me. I also informed her that upon receiving the email, that if it indeed stated there was a $50 fee associated with cancelling the appointment in less than 48hrs I would be more than happy to take care of the charge. Well I received the email but it stated that if the appointment was cancelled in less than 24hrs would you be charged a cancellation fee. I immediately called the office back and informed the receptionist of my findings and since my appointment was at 4:30 and I called the office at 5:15, I naturally assumed the $50 fee would be waived (I mean I was 45 mins shy of 24hrs). Never once did she apologize, say they updated their cancellation policy, NOTHING. She simply told me that I had to pay the fee because I had missed or was a no call no show for multiple appointments. I asked her for specific dates considering my child only goes to the dentist 2x a year, so that means we would have missed majority if not all of our appointments. Again, nothing! I then asked to speak to the office manager and she told me, and I quote " I will give her your info but what I said stands, you cannot reschedule your appointment unless you pay". At this point I must admit I had enough of the receptionist. 1st you give out incorrect information, 2nd you can't tell me when I missed all these so called appointments and lastly instead of just passing my information on to the office manager you insist on trying to go back and fourth with me. The office manager never called and I even called back a second time with no success. I have not been able to obtain my child's dental records and I have changed dentist. I wouldn't recommend this office to any parent! There are way to many dentists in the area to have to deal with rude unprofessional individuals. read more

Cosmetic dentistry at its finest. And I am a perfectionist. My 17 year old chipped her front tooth on the concrete of the pool last night, and Dr. Jessica got her in this morning to fix it. (I consulted with another dentist as well, who gave some strange advice, and Dr. Jessica took the time to consult with an endodontist colleague of hers before confirming that the other dentist's advice was indeed not-standard. It scares me how people out there advise abnormal things....) Anyway, Dr. Jessica is AMAZING and the job she did was AMAZING. She involved me in the process- we chose between two shades of filler.... And honestly, I cannot believe how easy and painless the process was. My 17 year old is usually more afraid of procedures than msot 5 year olds, and she said, "Wow, that was nothing. That was easy." First time at CKD, and I was was very pleased. Everyone - from the front desk to Dr. Jessica - was friendly, professional and efficient. The care the kids got was thorough, and the staff communicated very well throughout the course of the appointment. Even better yet, they all knew just how to talk to kids and keep them engaged - and that's very different between my 6 year old boy and my 13 year old girl. My only ding would be having to pay $10 for each DC health form that's required by the schools. I've never had to pay for those in any other practice (medical or dental) before. Brought my 3-year-old here for his first visit to the dentist. Dr. ... was great. She has a wonderful disposition with children and you can tell she has a lot of experience. However, the office set up is not desirable for kids who may be afraid of the dentist or who may be going for their first time. The chairs are in a row all in one room with no dividers. As we were waiting to see the dentist, there were two children in chairs next to ours who were really struggling. Both were crying and one was also gagging. I think my son would have had an easier time if he didn't see the other kids having such a hard time before it was his turn. read more

Wow! I'm impressed with this dentist. We just moved to the area and I thought our previous dentist was good until we went here. Making an appointment was easy and they were able to get my two kids in within several days. When we arrived the front desk was helpful and the wait was short. The hygienist was soooo good and really showed my kids how to brush, very engaging at their level. The dentist was fantastic and was able to get a fully evaluation and cleaning on my kids who were both very anxious about seeing a new dentist. All in all, a great experience. read more

Dr Jessica is amazing. She is an angel, disguised in scrubs and wielding a silly 2-foot-long toothbrush that matches her larger-than-life personality. You can read all about her impressive degrees and experience on her website (www.capitalkidsdentistry.com), but you'll need to meet her in person to truly understand the ease with which she works with children. She is funny, kind, and goofy, yet still very serious about dental health. She herself has a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, so she speaks to the children at their level and then, importantly, doesn't shame you as a parent for occasionally forgetting to brush your children's teeth. To best sum up our experience, as we walked out of her office, my 6-year-old asked, "Can we visit Dr Jessica again tomorrow?" to which my 3-year-old replied, "Yes, mommy, I love Dr Jessica!" Dr. Jessica should be your first and last stop when looking for a pediatric dentist. She is knowledgable, compassionate, warm and has a fantastic rapport with both parents and kids. She helped my family during a minor crisis when no other dentists would and I wish more health care providers cared as much about their patients as she does. Last summer, my 8 year old son knocked a permanent front tooth loose in a bounce house incident. Our family dentist was out of town, our orthodontist was out of town and not one of the FIVE pediatric dental practices in Bethesda would see my boy, whose front tooth was angled back toward the back of his throat. There was no way he'd be able to eat without intervention and closing his mouth was a challenge. One of the Bethesda practices suggested I try an annex of Children's Hospital and erroneously gave me the address of a pediatrician located in a big office building. As it happens, Dr. Jessica's office was located in that building and my son and I walked up to check it out. The office was closed, but before we could leave, a woman in scrubs walked up. I told her our situation, asked her there was any chance the office might be opening after lunch. She said, "I'm opening it now and I can definitely help you." The relief I felt when Dr. Jessica said, "I'm the dentist," was almost palpable. She immediately settled my son into an exam chair and set me up at a computer to fill out the necessary paper work. Here's what she did immediately, before even asking about insurance/payment: Calmed my still somewhat bloody son Took a panoramic x-ray Told us what her concerns were about his injury Walked us through her suggested treatment process Treated my son She then splinted his front tooth and spoke with me extensively about what I should look for in the coming weeks and told me to call her if I had any concerns. Over the next few weeks, Dr. Jessica consulted with specialists to discuss my son's treatment and get another opinion on his x-rays. At every follow up visit, she took her time with my son, answered all of our questions and addressed any of our concerns. Thankfully, my boy's tooth is fine and I credit Dr. Jessica with that save. I have no idea what we would have done without her excellent care and tremendous kindness. I've switched both my children from our family dentist (who is very good) to Dr. Jessica because they both adore her and I'll be forever grateful for the compassion she showed my family. read more

Dr. Jessica is a wonderful pediatric dentist in DC!! My daughter is only 2 years-old and had some staining on her teeth from iron supplements. Dr. Jessica and her staff had my daughter practice brushing a stuffed alligator's teeth (education) and through songs and other techniques, made her feel comfortable. Despite some tears through the cleaning, Dr. Jessica managed to get all the staining off of our daughter's teeth in one quick visit. The office is very modern and clean, with a fun play area for kids. Our daughter was so excited to get her token for the prize machine at the end of her visit. She even high-fived Dr. Jessica before we left. Dr. Jessica is brilliant with kids and an excellent dentist. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend! read more
