I know for a fact that their salmon is high-quality and delicious. One of the things I keep coming back for are the crab cakes. They get them from a local small business on Long Island I believe. They come frozen and you just have to heat them up in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes or pan fry them for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Hard to find really good crabcakes and these are definitely worth it at $4.25 a piece.

I have been around seafood my entire life and as a food professional it is gratifying to find a family run shop that cares about freshness. Really fresh seafood should smell clean, mild, and reminiscent of the open ocean, completely lacking the pungent, heavy smell that people typically associate with "fishiness". Avenue U Fish Market is clean and creamy smelling, just like right out of the water fresh. I bought soft-shell crabs last weekend that were the best I have ever had in my 60 years. They were lively, plump and most importantly delicious. Angelo personally picked 4 of them for me and my wife. I wanted to let Brooklyn and Rockaway know that it is worth the trip to Avenue U Fish Market. Keep up the great work and shop local. Support a small family run business. Get the Soft Shells while they are available. Thank you Angelo, Adam Smith

First of all, everything's fresh (unless it's frozen/prepackaged like their tuna steaks). I think almost everything ins locally sourced. They had some nice red snapper, and branzino. All different sizes, and for good prices. I picked up a small 1-pound red snapper (which they cleaned for me), as well as 2 lbs of their Connecticut mussels. They also had oysters, but they were Blue Points, which aren't my favorite. Got home and cooked everything, and it was quality all around. I now know that I can house 2 lbs of mussels in a single sitting... Cash only!

They had all the usual suspects for whole fish, but I have had such a hard time finding decent sized sardines, lobsters, branzino and crab in one place. The prices were a tad higher than my local spot but being able to get it all in one place and better sizes made this a winner. They also clean the fish to perfection! Thanks for the Swedish fish for my son. We'll see you again soon.

They didn't…read morehave to travel far--just a couple doors down on the same block, and the space is larger with seafood on ice in full display. Their prices are noticeably more expensive than other places but no one should compromise when it comes to eating seafood. As someone who has had food poisoning a few times, I like to subscribe to this mindset. From Swordfish and Tuna to Shellfish and Filets, I was told they make the trek to Fulton Fish Market (in Hunt's Point, the Bronx) daily. That's good to know. There's also a freezer packed with frozen selections such as Snow Crab legs and Calamari. I would like to see more varieties of fish ( like Skate and Monkfish) while envisioning an addition of upscale gourmet items/seafood accompaniments other than Soy and Teriyaki Sauce. If you want to be assured of eating fresh seafood knowing you're paying slightly more, check them out. (I bought two Branzini for $31).

You'll find your standard fare of seafood and freshwater fish including catfish (my fav), salmon, porgy, whiting and talapia. They also have a good selection of crustaceans, such as crab, shrimp and lobster. This place isn't fancy and the fish is usually kept on ice but I've been coming here for years and have never had a problem. If you get a whole fish they will fillet it for you for free ( just tip them!)

They've got a decent selection of fish and shrimp on ice, as well as a selection of fixins behind the counter. This ain't Whole Foods honey, so no descriptions about what's wild or farmed, fresh off the boat or been frozen, but it definitely felt safer than the mysterious meats and fishes in barrels at some of the nearby groceries. The fishmonger was a really sweet guy and pleasant to buy from. I'm sure if I had questions he would've been helpful, but I decided to play it safe and get two salmon steaks. Got two really nice sized portions and only paid about $7.80. If they're as good as they looked I got a great deal, if not I'll update my post! Selection is mostly local varieties (snapper, salmon, perch, tilapia etc), most are whole fish but a few are sliced or in steaks, unfortunately no sashimi grade cuts but let's face it, I wasn't expecting there to be. Solid neighborhood joint, if my salmon steaks turn out well I'll definitely be back.

Does business as 'Seafood Premium'…read more So my boy Andrew and I meet up and he tells me about this place that steams and seasons any fish you pick out, along with veggies. After a long walk in the Brooklyn sunshine we arrive to a place, right under the J/M/Z Marcy stop. It doesn't look fabulous. There's one table with three chairs. Fish on ice, a cold case with frozen onion rings [10 for a dollar!!], salads and so on. The real deal is the dollar packs of veggies. Red potatoes, snap beans, carrots, cabbage, corn, and more. You buy some of those, and then you pick out a nice slab of fish. They weigh it, then ask you what seasonings you want on it. We both ordered it with 'everything'. They splash some sink water on it, and into the steamer it goes. Five minutes later you get a styrofoam pack with your food in it. They have squeeze bottles of hot sauce, melted butter and ketchup and so on. Did my story sound horribly low class? Are you quivering in fear of bacteria? Well then let those feelings go. It was awesome! We took our food to the park and enjoyed it. Next time I'm telling em go easy on the salt but man...hot sauce on seasoned tilapia plus melted butter on veggies...so awesome. All together 6.50! Who says you can't eat healthy delicious food for cheap in the hood?? I'm going again, and I don't have any people on that block. Even the bathroom is clean [for a fish market]. Toilet was clean, both hot and cold water worked, soap, a few rolls of WRAPPED toilet paper...dudes are on their game.
