Don't. Friday…read more Fry-day is "fish fry" in most African American households, an long held tradition in my family which was no different today. The fish market was packed today. BlueFish I bought two Blue Fish at $3.99 per pound and when I arrived home I was disappointed that it was not cleaned, heads off and tails on as I requested, but the weekend is here so I could deal with that, however once the fish was seasoned and fried, the fish tasted bitter in certain spots and this is a sure sign that these Blue Fish were not fresh. Return policy. I didn't find out about the return policy until I left the store. You can not return seafood that is cooked or seasoned and it must be returned on the same day. I bought Blue Fish around 7pm in the evening, cooked it around 9pm? The market closes at 7pm....How is a same day return possible? Disappointing. I will not be back, the fish was stale and the customer service lacked a lot, there's a better fish market on Fulton Street and Nostrand Avenue that I normally patronize, however I was in such a rush I visited this merchant, because it was close to home. BIG MISTAKE. Fish was STALE. Disappointing. Go somewhere else.

Prices are high but so is the quality. The service is first class. We love the guys behind the counter. They will order speciality items for you when requested. The prepared foods, sandwiches, soups, salads and even spaghetti in clam sauce -- all delicious. The place is clean well lit and we could not ask for more -- well maybe some more clams on the spaghetti! Grazie!

Their prices are noticeably more expensive than other places but no one should compromise when it comes to eating seafood. As someone who has had food poisoning a few times, I like to subscribe to this mindset. From Swordfish and Tuna to Shellfish and Filets, I was told they make the trek to Fulton Fish Market (in Hunt's Point, the Bronx) daily. That's good to know. There's also a freezer packed with frozen selections such as Snow Crab legs and Calamari. I would like to see more varieties of fish ( like Skate and Monkfish) while envisioning an addition of upscale gourmet items/seafood accompaniments other than Soy and Teriyaki Sauce. If you want to be assured of eating fresh seafood knowing you're paying slightly more, check them out. (I bought two Branzini for $31).

In my opinion, there's nothing like a stand alone fish market (as opposed to those that have a little fish section in a gourmet shop) unless it's Fairway or a similar store. I absolutely adore seafood and it's also my favorite animal protein. I've been shopping here since forever and I really like their variety of seafood. There's even a sushi section (although I've never tried) that appears to be appealing and fresh. On my favorite food holiday--Christmas Eve--when the Italian (and my family) tradition is everything seafood (no less than 7), I always find myself shopping here. This market is very crowded around that time of the year. This store has fresh and frozen assortment of both shellfish and seafood. Mussels, clams, scallops, squid, shrimp, Branzino, trout, filet of sole, filet of trout, filet of whiting, sea bass, lump crab meat, king crab sticks, salmon, crab cakes and a lot more. I tend to stay away from Tilipia and Basa. You might notice at any fish market, it's the cheapest fish by the pound. And that's because it's imported from murky waters. At least that's what I've read and believe. In addition to a variety of seafood, there are various accompaniments & condiments such as cocktail sauces, Panko breadcrumbs, tarter sauce, fish fry batters, etc. I don't think they carry every variety of fish, but there's enough. And it's fresh. One thing to note---at times, they will sell out of certain fish. That's when you put plan B into place after the disappointment. BTW, I bought one pound of clean squid ringlets. I made a fresh sauce to accompany my squid ink pasta :) Good stuff here.
