There are three boba places that I frequent in Rancho Cucamonga depending on what drink I'm craving. Rare Tea became one of my top 2 when they came out with their duo grape tea (when they used grapes and not the jelly they use now). I considered it a fairly authentic tea with decent ingredient quality compared to places in SGV and LA. Today I stopped by to get the rose matcha latte. I'm very soft spoken, so the young employee may not have heard me well enough because I ended up with a lychee matcha latte. I would have drank it, but I'm not fond of the combination. I waited in line after getting my drink to ask them to replace it. At that time the younger employee was making orders and the older man came to the front to take orders. As soon as I mentioned that I ordered the rose and that I would've drank it if it hadn't been lychee matcha, he proceeded to loudly berate the younger employee. He appeared to be very angry and was gesticulating violently. Not only does witnessing that make me uncomfortable as a customer, but verbal abuse is also not okay. I was going to tell the older person to speak to his employee more nicely, because speaking to them that way actually increases the chances of them making more mistakes and isn't good for them in general. The guy made my drink, dropped it on the counter, and walked away. I had zero chance of chatting with him about it and I couldn't apologize to the young employee for my part. I will not be back. I came here after work and it was the perfect treat. I had the honey oolong milk tea with 50% sugar and it hit the spot. The oolong flavor came through beautifully, without being too strong. I was wanting to visit Haven on a particularly busy Saturday night and ended up parking further away than usual - and that's how I ended up seeing that a new tea place had opened up in the same plaza as Haven City. They had their BOGO special a few weeks back (sadly I missed that), but I had been craving boba all day and so I took advantage of the opportunity to grab a drink and try a new place. I would say that there aren't too many boba places like RareTea in the Inland Empire - they offer milk teas, teas with organic milk, fruit teas, matcha tea, smoothies, and special-teas. They also have a plethora of add-ins and toppings. I will say that the drinks are on the pricier side - and if you're customizing and adding toppings, the drinks can end up costing more than anticipated. I wanted to buy the most generic drink - a boba milk tea; they don't have any options where there's a set price for a tea with boba inside already, so I paid $5.50 for the black milk tea + $0.65 for boba and $1.25 for snow cream. (If you wanted the brown sugar boba, it would have been an extra $1.00 - felt like this was a little too high.) My drink came out to almost $8. With the increase in pricing for many items, I can understand having to mark up items, but paying almost $8 for a drink was a little too much. They do use quality items - and overall, the taste of the drink was pretty good. While I didn't get the brown sugar boba, I thought the regular boba was sweet enough. And the snow cream was also well made - thick and creamy without having too much cheese taste. Drinking the tea with a sip of the snow cream and then the tea made for quite the delicious sip. I do think the black milk tea at 50% sugar tasted a bit more watered down instead of having a strong tea flavor. Aesthetics of the shop interior is really nice - very white and bright with a good number of tables/chairs. They're really close to another boba shop inside Haven though, so there might be some competition. Overall, I'm glad to see more tea shops like RareTea opening up! I don't know if I would return if I was craving boba or something chewy, but if I was wanting a fruit tea, I would definitely give this place another try. Would give the rating a 3.5 but rounded up because they workers were friendly and helpful and I'd like to see them succeed. If only the prices of the toppings could be knocked down a bit. read more

I love this place; so glad I found it. Located just next to Haven city market. Inside it's very bright lighting, with a elegant, modern design. Each table is furnished with a pretty set of flowers. I thought I had left a review for RareTea a while back but seems I did not. I came here back when they first opened in March because I was so intrigued about an actual shop here. I was always seeing ads on instagram about this thing called RareTea and how you could get ingredients shipped to you so you can make your own boba/tea drinks at home so when I saw they opened up a real place here, I was like woah what the heck?! When I came for the first time in march, I ordered a strawberry matcha latte ($6.25) and no toppings. I was super into matcha around that time and always wanted to try everyone's matcha drinks to see who had the best one. I had high expectations for this one for some reason abut unfortunately after I shook it up and took a sip, I felt like there was just an intense layer of powder on my tongue. I know matcha does not dissolve as I do make my own at home too and I would order it everywhere I go, but this feeling of a layer of it on my tongue was not it. The flavor was yummy though, but with every sip I just had the weird feeling on there which wasn't pleasant at all. I honestly didn't want to go back and try them again because I was beyond disappointed in that, but I said I'm sure their other drinks taste just fine. I never got a chance to go back because of a busy schedule and just rarely going to that area/plaza, but I finally went again 7 months later lol. I wanted to just order my usual that I get at other boba shops which is a honey milk tea with a green tea base and crystal boba. When I said my order of "Honey green milk tea" (which is what I always say at other places), the girl hesitated and repeated my order back saying "okay honey green tea" and put my order in and started making drinks. I thought about her saying my order back to me and was hoping that a regular honey green tea wasn't going to come out, but of course it did. I said that I wanted a honey milk tea with a green tea base because I just don't like black tea bases. They said unfortunately their honey milk tea is made with a green tea base only and they asked if I wanted them to remake my drink to a honey milk tea, but i said no thank you because I just said I don't love black tea. My family and I visited this place after eating at Haven City and wanting to try out a different boba place other than boba time or sunright. We walked in and was immediately greeted by an employee who asked us for our order. I started with asking for a jasmine milk green tea with boba for my daughter then asked for a side of boba for the little one. I was told that they don't sell boba separately only with a drink. I thought it was weird having never experienced that at any other boba shops I've ever been to so I thought to order another drink with the boba in a separate cup. I'm eyeing the small clear cup that I'm sure is used for water requests but was then told they don't do that and they charge $1 for a cup. at this point I'm thinking it's pretty ridiculous so theemployee looks to her left at the table where a couple is sitting. I'm assuming they must have been the owners and the guy said to her that they can't separate the boba from the drink. He can clearly hear our exchange but speaks only to her until we turn and ask him directly. He then responds to us and said along the lines of " you can buy the drink, and the extra cup to separate the boba yourselves"! Then proceeds to grab his laptop, drinks and goes to the back, leaving his employee to deal with now an annoyed and irritated customer. Slow handclap to the manager for holding his ground and making it awkward for everyone in the room. Obviously this left a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended) and I'll never go back to this location. He was rude, could have empathized or explained the reasoning behind that but instead he had an attitude. Look I get it you have a business to run, but in this business of providing a service to people there's got to be some flexibility. It's not like we were asking for a large cup of the boba, we just wanted a scoop that is normally given when you order a drink. You pretty much advertised ordering a cup of boba on your IG page!!! What the Heck I was also ready to pay full price for $7 drink without the actual drink!! But nope.... Reply to the business owner: Ok I get that it's not a side item that is offered but what could have been offered was simple customer service. Knowing what we wanted and actually providing us options that makes sense... not "ok we'll make you a drink and you could separate it yourselves". Actually if you had interacted with us on a one on one level instead of through your employee you would have known that I was annoyed. In fact, you both promptly gathered up your belongings and left to the back instead of ensuring that all was well. As for the impression I made..I did not make a scene bc I did not want to interrupt your place of business. I did ask additional questions to the employee, several in fact, to try to find an alternative solution. For instance, " can I buy a drink without the drink and only the boba inside the cup?" I've visited this boba spot several times since moving to Rancho Cucamonga and initially thought it was a great place to study. Unfortunately, today was a different experience. Upon sitting down at the table near the door, we were promptly told by the manager that the table was reserved for individuals with disabilities. Fair enough--we immediately moved. However, it was interesting to note that when two other customers sat at the same table later, no one said anything to them. My study group typically purchases drinks at staggered times to avoid them becoming watered down by the time we settle in. Despite this, one of the staff members came out to inform us that we weren't allowed to study unless everyone had already purchased a drink. The timing of this feedback wasn't ideal, to say the least, and it left us feeling unwelcome. The manager's demeanor didn't help matters either. As for the drinks, they've been consistently okay at best. Every time I've ordered here, the teas tasted under extracted--mostly milk and sugar with just the faintest hint of tea. I thought this place was a nice spot to study at since it is usually empty. Now it makes sense why. In response to owner: Thank you for taking the time to respond to my review. I appreciate your effort to provide clarification regarding your policies and services. While I understand and respect the need for clear guidelines regarding table use and purchases, I believe the way these were communicated during my visit could have been handled more effectively. My group complied with your staff's requests; however, it was disappointing to observe inconsistent enforcement of the rules, as other customers were allowed to use the same reserved table without intervention almost immediately after we were asked to move. This inconsistency, combined with the tone and timing of the feedback we received, left us feeling unwelcome despite our intention to support your business. Additionally, when we were informed that each member of our group needed to make a purchase, we explained that we were staggering our orders to prevent drinks from becoming watered down, with every intention of making purchases. This could have been an ideal moment for your staff to inform us about the option to pay upfront and have drinks prepared later, as you mentioned in your response. Unfortunately, this option was not communicated at the time. Clearer communication at that moment could have significantly improved our experience and avoided unnecessary frustration. I also found your mention of our group staying for 4-5 hours dismissive of the concerns I raised.
