As a serious and qualified applicant, I felt completely disregarded throughout the process. The lack of professionalism ultimately cost me the opportunity to secure an apartment I was genuinely interested in. In addition, the tone of the communication was at times dismissive and rude, which made the experience even worse. Based on my experience, it felt like certain applicants may have already been preselected, while others were not given a fair opportunity or transparent communication regarding the listings. After a long search filled with viewing crappy apts & dealing with unproffesional brokers i was losing hope. Thats when i sent the "id like to request a tour" message to one of Devoted's properties and all my troubles went away. That was on a Tuesday morning. I met with John to view it just a few hours later that day. Applied on Wednesday. Approved on Thursday! I could of signed my lease same day or next day too if I wanted but I opted for that Saturday. John answered every one of my concerns, gave me his advice & opinion on questions I had that wasn't even part of his job to answer he's just a good guy on top of good at his job! He may be a little late to your meeting or miss a text because he's juggling so much getting us into our new homes but i'm telling you do not let it deter you from working with one of the best agents out here! Oh and dont hesitate to provide whatever is needed to submit your application. Just think about all those apartments you reached out to on zillow or street easy but then didnt respond after. Devoted wants to protect their time spent, show you're serious and also make sure you dont back out last minute of a property another potential tenant could have its only fair! He asked me to first come into his office. Fine, whatever. I come in and he had me fill out a detailed questionnaire and asked me a bunch of questions. I told him my requirements and he pressed me to look for something in another location and get a sooner move-in date, claiming my expectations were unreasonable. I have spent enough time doing research to know what I can get. I asked him multiple times about the listing that I initially contacted him about, and he dismissed it as too small and not something I'd like. Smelled like a bait-and-switch, oldest trick in the book. Instead, he wanted to set up viewings of several places he thought would be good for me. Sure, let's see what he comes up with. We arranged to see some places the next day, and I get an email about an hour prior with an address for the first location. It's about 20 degrees that day, so I showed up a couple minutes early knowing I wouldn't want to make anyone wait for me in the cold. I emailed him and his assistant to let them know I am here, and get back a response that his assistant is running 5-10 minutes late. After 20 minutes, my extremities were freezing while my temper was boiling, so I left and let him know it's a shame he doesn't respect his clients' time. His cavalier response (see below) confirms that this man really doesn't care about his clients. It's rather amazing to me that agents have no qualms demanding 15% of your annual rent while treating their customers like they are doing us a favor. Save yourself the time and avoid Bruno and probably Citi Habitats as a whole.

AKA - how fast apartments move off the market in NYC (as I learned the hard way). If you don't act fast, the apartment you want is gone. A New York Moment is when things just line up perfectly. This is how I describe my experience working with David at Lang. I had contacted him about a listing and when he wrote back to me, it was already in contract with someone else (I told you - these things go fast!). A few days later, on a Sunday, he emails me out of the blue with a listing saying that apartment was just getting back on the market. Did I want to see it? Of course! So because I knew first hand how fast things go, on a Sunday night, last minute David met me to show me this listing. I saw my 27th (yes...27. That's how fast apartments go in NYC) apartment. And took it on the spot. Since I'm self employed, David walked me through exactly what extra/other paperwork I would need to show my qualifications for the apartment. He was super communicative with me throughout the whole process - texts and emails were answered surprisingly fast. I never felt like I was bothering him with questions or requests. He worked with me to move up the start date of my lease and facilitated getting me in touch with the super to get keys in (my) hand 48 hours after signing my lease. It was truly a whirlwind experience, but in moments of unease he assured me he was with me every step of the way, and even ended an email with how excited he was for me. I highly recommend working with David. He's enthusiastic, and clearly a people person. He leveled with me when the moment called for it and brought joy to the experience.
