Continuing my mission to review every coffee shop in Chicago. Next on the list: Rapha! I stopped by Rapha with absolutely zero expectations and left loving my drink! Rapha is a store that specializes to clothing for cyclists (and that's about all I know because I don't cycle only came for the coffee :D). The gal working at the bar was super sweet and helped me decide on a drink. I went with a iced matcha latte with vanilla bean sweetener. Oh my goodness -- this was amazing! Perfectly sweet and creamy. Even my husband, who doesn't like matcha, kept sneaking sips of it! He went with an iced mocha, which was also super tasty, but I definitely think mine was the winner. There was a cute little sitting area which looked like a nice spot to hunker down and get some work done. I honestly wish I lived closer so I could come support this spot more often, but I'll definitely make a visit whenever I'm in the neighborhood! read more

Is it a cyclist shop with a cafe or a cafe with some cyclist apparels? Basically it is both, but came for some coffee. Honestly just needed a quick pick me up but please to find that they put some effort to serve good coffee. Syrups are made in house. So I had to get the lavender latte. Man it works wonderfully, balanced flavors, and beautiful latte art. read more

Made a much-anticipated visit to the Rapha Chicago Store during my trip to the city last week (Rapha, please open a Toronto location!). Being a recent convert to road cycling, I was really looking forward to visiting Rapha. It seems that people either love or hate Rapha, but I wanted to see for myself how it is. The staff were very friendly & helpful, they didn't act like "bike snobs" as is often the case at any local bike shop, not just Rapha. I don't have the stereotypical skinny road cyclist build, so buying clothing such as bike gear is always a hit-or-miss affair.... I didn't feel rushed or judged and was allowed to try on as many items as I wanted before purchase. For the record, I got a Brevit jersey (on sale, very reasonable price!), clubhouse socks, a water bottle and a "Rapha Chicago" t-shirt. The last item is the only reason that I give this store 4 stars and not 5, as I was given a "fresh" shirt from the storage room that was still bagged... however, when I got it back to Toronto I found out that the main "Rapha Chicago" chest logo has been poorly printed (looks like wrinkle in the material during the print process) and $40 was a lot to waste on a shirt that I now cannot wear or return. Overall, I enjoyed my visit to Rapha and if I lived in Chicago I'd definitely consider membership... it's just a shame that one of the items I purchased has a major flaw. read more

Great cycling apparel. The clothing looks great and performs well, especially in tough Chicago weather. The worse the weather, the more likely you will see riders in Rapha.... Frequent rides and events from the Rapha Cycling Club offer a great opportunity to meet other cyclists as well. read more

Great customer service, I have walked in to either browse or buy and they always treat you well. Their service is friendly and they take their time to explain about their products. They explain that they have bike rides and you do not need to be a pro at it. They also offer great coffee as well so just in case you want to stop by and try it. Their products are of good quality, got a nice jacket from them last time and feels nice. I also got a shirt that is casual and is well made. Will come back. read more

From the outside I wasn't sure if it was a coffee shop, but went in and it was adorable. It was like a bike shop and a coffee shop got married. They only have soy and oat milk (milk alternatives) so I got a iced pat milk latte and it was really good! Super cute place to hangout and shop for bike stuff. I am not a biker, but I will say this place is great. I live very close and so I stop in her a lot as they have a coffee shop inside! They serve the basic coffee shop drinks plus some small bites like avocado toast. The staff is very friendly and wonderful to chat with. In terms of merchandise, I don't know much about bicycles or biking but it looks like they do different rides you can join (esp in the summer). They have hooks inside where you can hook your bike up too which is so convenient, as there isn't a ton of place right outside to lock your bike. They have a lot nice clothes that are good for working out regardless if you ride or not. Lightweight jackets that are great for running outside, or hiking, as well as leggings and accessories like water bottles and such. I think its definitely worth the stop if you want coffee, or needs some new outdoor workout gear, or any gear related to riding. read more

I just learned of Rapha Chicago very recently and visited for the first and second times last week. The sales people there couldn't have been more helpful. The gear is top notch and the store itself really warm and inviting. I got the advice I needed, was able to try on clothing until I found exactly the right fit and learned a few things along the way. This kind of service and experience can't be duplicated on the web. Color me impressed. The coffee was good too! read more

I love Rapha and as a cyclist, it's a fantastic community hub. The quality of their products is stellar with a price tag to reflect it. My only qualm is they never carry anything larger than a women's medium in the store. They suggest you order it to the store which can take a week or more. Just a generally frustrating experience as sometimes you need something right away. read more

First class cycling clothing and service. Providing Intelligentsia coffee and espresso drinks is a nice touch. Rapha as a brand is very unique. Their clothes are classic, so if you are still using a jersey 10 years from now, it will still be in style. Many of the jerseys and accessories use a blend of merino wool, which is amazingingly comfortable to wear. I believe this Rapha Clubhouse is a bit larger than the San Francisco one I visited. Really my only complaint is that parking can be a nightmare, But this isn't Rapha's fault. And riding rail is inconvenient, as it would take nearly 2 hours from where I live. For this reason, many of my purchases will have to be via their website. They have a nice rotation of guest speakers at the Rapha Clubs. They had Greg LeMond at the grand opening of this one last Fall, where he autographed his book. read more

I was visiting Chicago from a small city and was awed to see the Rapha store. The customer service was excellent. Robert was truly kind and let me know about some of the super cool stuff going on in the store. Rapha displayed a bunch of SRAM historical gear in honor of their 25th anniversary which was bike nerd heaven. The store is truly designed to be a "clubhouse" which made me feel super welcome. The folks at Chicago truly make this an awesome bike institution. read more

Coffee and bikes! This is the best spot to meet up to fuel with caffeine and treats before and after a ride. Staff are A+ super friendly and happy to chat about local rides and races, including the open rides that leave from the store. The clothes are also super comfy, especially the Pro Team socks! read more

Rapha is GREAT!! the team that works there is awesomely friendly and very accommodating to even us non-cyclists. The coffee is very good and it's great to be able to get one so close by. There are a couple of things they need to address... the cycling commentary 24/7 is horrible and not very inviting. I don't mind the cycling races on the TVs but they could back it up with some music or something a bit more customer friendly. This is not just coming from a non-cyclist. I was in here with a group of guys waiting to ride and they brought it up in our conversation. Also, I hope the get an ice machine before summer... ice coffees will be a key to the hot hot summer season. I know it is a cycling shop, but if they want to augment it with their cafe sales, they could make the cafe a bit more everyday-people friendly. Overall, a great place and if you need riding gear, this is your place!! They all create a great community around their customers and are always willing to help anyone become part of that community. read more

Incredible company and story. The real gem is Rapha Cycling Club (RCC - RCCCHI for the local club). Rapha's local and international community and network of clubhouses (like the Wicker Park location) are beacons for cycling. $200 per year gives you all sorts of perks, including free coffee at any clubhouse, organized member rides and events through their sick Rapha app, and the ability to bike hire (rent) top quality bikes for $25 day. I'll be in LA, Boulder, and NYC this year and plan to bike hire at each location and meet up with the local RCC chapter for a group ride. Contrast this with other bike shops that rent high quality bikes for $100 a day. If you're a cycling enthusiast, diehard, or someone looking for a community of cyclists and a home base (either locally or abroad) then I'd join! And yeah, all of their gear and styles are of the highest quality and production in the market. So thrilled to have Rapha in the hood! Let's ride! read more

Stumbled across this place as I'm new to cycling, and wow, it's beautiful. Cafe is great, and had a delicious cappuccino. Young crew of people and they were helpful and accommodating in letting me try things on and steering me in the right direction. Now just need to save up, they aren't giving it away! read more

This is one of the worst clubhouses I've been to. I live in San Francisco and love Rapha, it's my go to hang out spot in the city. I've been to New York, Chicago and London and had to pop in and check out how my local Rapha stacks up. Without a doubt the Chicago location is worst. The people there are not that knowledgeable and for me that was a big turn off. I also didn't appreciate the way the interaction I had with a particular gentleman there went. It's not my place to name any one but having been to a few across the country I can't chalk it up to the Chicago personality or the gruffness of the city. Maybe Chicago is more aggressive than San Francisco but for what ever reason this one left a poor taste in my mouth. I am disappointed because my work has me in he city for a few months and I hate that this place has been such a poor experience. I recommend another location before judging the Rapha brand by this local! read more
