Rani was absolutely amazing! I ordered the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and it was delicious -- full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The naan was warm, soft, and paired so well with the sauce. The service was just as great as the food. Everyone was so accommodating, consistently checking in to see if we needed anything and making sure we were having a wonderful experience. I agree with many of the other reviews; this is not a standard restaurant, it is an "upscale Indian restaurant." The service is excellent, there were so many staff that came to see to our needs. The restaurant itself looks new and clean and is designed very well. They have a very extensive selection of drinks including beer, wine, liquor.. The food is where I have an issue. Although the food was very tasty, it was not the best Indian cuisine I've had and it does not justify the price. For paying over $30 for a shrimp dish and getting only 6-7 shrimps in a medium sized bowl, I don't think is fair. All the dishes were similar in size; medium sized bowl, with a meager amount of protein. And the paratha was $10 for two very thin pieces, that were not really all that good; if this is what "Laccha Paratha" is supposed to be, I won't be ordering it at any restaurant. The restaurant and food are still very good, the only issue I have is the portion sizes. It still gets 4.5 stars mainly because all the staff were excellent and the ambiance is very nice. read more

Took out from here and tried the Palak Paneer, Paneer Masala, Malai Kofta & Naan in a comparison to other local Indian spots. The paneer was incredibly soft, to the point that the pieces stuck together (see photo). The Palak & Masala were both tasty and fresh. The Malai was definitely a downfall--the dumpling was way too mushy and flavorless. Naan was okay, but too charred. Definitely not in the top places we've tried in the area. read more

Loved Rani! Nice restaurant with good service and ambiance. They have very "showy" menu items that are both tasty and fun - not to mention a great photo op! Enjoyed the popular Hariyali paneer, they serve it on a banana leaf and they torch the edges of it in order to offer a better flavor and to marinate it better. I enjoyed the service at Rani as servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and offered good suggestions, and asked me all of the right questions. Also loved the jalebi churro that was served on top of coffee malai and with sweet, fresh fruit -- sooo delicious and I wish I had saved some more room. We enjoyed all of the cocktails we tried, and there were many to choose from. I loved the gulabi rani rose drink (served with smoke!) and paan martini. Mango mojito was also a must try and great way to end the hefty meal. Nice interior, and all of the food was presented very well. You can tell that they put a lot of work and care into this restaurant! Overall I would come here again, and probably ask for a spicy dish as I feel I got more of a mild taste. The cancellation policy for this restaurant is more befitting a NYC restaurant than Hamilton Nj. I tried to cancel a reservation they made me wait to speak with a manager for 15 minutes then I hung up called again and had to wait another 10 minutes just to cancel a reservation. The manager said it was the policy. I would have been easier not to show up. You can't cancel on line for some reason. The food was good when I went before but not worth this hassle. read more

We tried Rani last night. It's the newest Indian spot to hit the bordentown/Robbinsville/Hamilton area. First impressions were very solid. The bar and the decor are fantastic. Beautifully done. The servers and bartenders were very attentive. I sat down at the bar and within a minute someone had complimentary papadam in front of me. Drinks were tasty but quite expensive. $17 for mixed drinks. $12-$15 for a glass of wine. For dinner we were sat in the main dining room, it became quite busy which is good to see for a young restaurant. We started with two appetizers the chicken Tangri kabab and Riyasate Seekh-E-Kabab. Both very good, marinated well and very very tender. We split the goat/mutton biryani and it was fantastic. We also had the Saoji chicken which had great flavor but a bit too many bones for my taste. Additionally we tried the veggie dish: Dal Makhani which had terrific flavor. Also - the garlic naan was fantastic!!! The cost was quite high, bill was close to $200 for 3-4 drinks and 3 entrees . Rani is a new fine dining Indian restaurant on the Hamilton/Robbinsville border. It takes the place of a vacant former Thai restaurant. They've removed the fountain and installed a bar and lounge area. This looks like a nice spot for a late night drink. It also would be a nice happy hour spot. I hear their cocktails and mocktails are very good. My review is based on doing take out. We ordered the Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, and Chicken dum Biryani. The Butter chicken came with the choice of a side so we picked the naan instead of rice and just made our own rice at home. All of the food was very good. I didn't specify a spice level and it was all at a spice level of zero so make sure to indicate if you want your food to have kick to it (I would have liked it spicy but wanted to see what their baseline was for my first order). The prices are a bit steep for the part of Mercer County with entrees in the mid to upper $20s. Everything is a good $10 more per entree than you'd pay at Singh's Kitchen 2 miles west down Rt. 33 - but that's people Rani is goin for an elevated experience. So if you're just doing takeout Rani might not be the best value but we enjoyed everything we ordered. With Palace of Asia on Quakerbride Road in Lawrence closing and becoming Zara's, Rani appears to be a suitable replacement for fine dining Indian food in the area. read more

Had the pleasure of visiting this new restaurant for lunch on a Monday. The place is beautiful, nicely decorated, the colors are vibrant and modern. The service was fast which I expected as there were only 2 tables at this time. The food was very tasty, my friends and I really enjoyed the garlic butter and garlic cheese naan. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is for the price compared to portion, a dish with 4 cheese dumplings is steep at almost $20 and the drinks (mock-tails) were just as expensive as the regular cocktails. Rani - A Regal Surprise in Robbinsville Nestled in an unassuming strip mall in Robbinsville, Rani delivers something rarely found in suburban Indian dining: imagination. From the moment we stepped inside, the experience unfolded like a well-directed film--one that balances tradition with flair, and comfort with creativity. The décor is a stunner--vibrant yet refined, as if an old Aston Martin and a Dyson Airwrap had a baby. The central bar, framed in emerald green with sleek lines, immediately draws the eye. Playful portraits of various "Ranis"--from traditional to fashion-forward--line the walls, adding personality and charm. We began with cocktails. I ordered the "Mr. Brightside"--so good I ordered another. It's citrusy, herbaceous, and dangerously easy to drink. My wife had the lychee martini, which arrived looking like a child had just blown bubbles into a glass of milk. But looks can deceive--the burst of sweet lychee flavor made it worth every strange glance. A friend ordered a cocktail served in a glass sword, complete with a story behind its significance--a memorable, theatrical touch. Appetizers were a mixed bag. The Gunpowder Bengali Beetroot Croquettes, though moist and visually appealing, lacked depth--perhaps a hint of fennel or mint would have lifted them. The Paneer ke Kabab, on the other hand, were sublime--silky, well-spiced, and miles from the rubbery renditions often served elsewhere. But the showstopper was the Chicken 65: crispy edges, tender center, punchy with heat and flavor. The generous portion was a pleasant surprise. For mains, the Mushroom Masala was a revelation--even for someone who avoids mushrooms. Rich, meaty, and layered, it converted me instantly. The Rajasthani Laal Maas came with a fair warning: spicy. But it's not "white spicy"--it's fiery, unapologetic, and bursting with flavor. Thank God for the cooling raita. The Seekh Kebabs were competent--succulent and mildly spiced--but not standout. And then came dessert. Most desi spots phone this part in. Not Rani. The Kunafeh, with its crackly kataifi pastry and coconut cream cheese center, was an addictive collision of textures and cultures. The Rasmalai Cake was even better--saffron-soaked sponge layered with cardamom cream, pistachio, and rose petals. A perfect finale. Service was attentive, warm, and conversational, and the staff clearly take pride in the guest experience. One recommendation: the bathroom hand dryer could use a mat underneath to prevent slips. Rani doesn't just serve food--it builds a mood. It flirts with opulence, stays grounded in authenticity, and mostly hits the mark. We'll be back!! read more

I've been curious about this newish Indian place since they've opened. Photos revealed a more upscale dining experience than this area has had, along with a bar and higher prices. I had plans twice to eat in with a friend but both were cancelled, I finally decided a take out mission was needed. To better compare with other places nearby I started simply, butter chicken and garlic naan. As far as the decor goes, it is "someone's" idea of fancy, but maybe not my own. That being said it did give off a certain vibe, and I'd have no problem eating in. Entrees seem to come with a choice of rice or naan, I selected rice but also got garlic naan. The naan was packed for takeout in a foil lined bag which kept this perfectly made flat bread in tip top shape. Very good. For the few extra dollar price tag the butter chicken was a larger portion than my fav nearby place serves. It was among the best versions I've had of this dish. The sauce was indeed buttery and pretty spicy, the aromatics and hint of citrus made me want to continue eating even as my mouth may have preferred a break. I think this spicier heat level was perfect, sensitive eaters might want to tamp it down a bit. This ended up being 2 small dinners for me, first using the naan, then with my own veggies and the rice. The chicken was tender and seemed to be halal. I will definitely be back to try more things, this might just be a return of my long lost fav Indian place, only time will tell.... read more

By far the best modern Indian in NJ right now. Creative menu, delicious food, huge portions, friendly service. We've tried almost everything on the menu (dine-in and to-go) and were pleased with all of it. Special shoutout to the palak chaat which stays crispy even when we do takeout. An upscale feel and modern twist to traditional Indian cuisine. I was greeted by their plush velvet seats and well lit ambiance. The waiter was astonished to hear I did not want any alcoholic beverages and we started with the crispy spinach for appetizers. Really great decision, I highly recommend their crispy palaak chaat, as in I considered ordering it again... and again!! For entrees we had the Paneer Lababdar and Jackfruit Nihari. I was surprised when they never asked for the spice level, the grapefruit Nihari was super bland and not so appetizing but the Lababdar was tasty and the Naan were decent as well! Keep in mind each of their Saabzis comes with either rice or 1 Naan. Their gulab jamun desert was absolutely massive and they have a green backdrop perfect for Instagram. Finally!!! a Princeton-level restaurant in Robbinsville!!!! Every dish was delectable and packed with flavor- especially loved the palak chaat (crispy fried spinach with chutney) and palak paneer with edamame burrata with garlic naan. The mocktails and cocktails were amazing - again on par with Princeton places. Lots of attention to detail, even the side of raita yogurt came with a twist - it was a pink beet raita. The ambience is super fun and well done with the theme of modern rani "queen" pictures, deep royal blues and purples, and lots of gold and Indian style woodwork design. Luckily for me the spice range was mild-moderate, only the chicken tikka was too spicy for me but those that like spice would enjoy that as it was very flavorful. But very accessible for those that can't tolerate intense spiciness like at other Indian restaurants. For dessert the churro jalebi came with a delicious coffee flavored cream, a must try. Service was great too and yes, the price is steep, but you get what you pay for in this case. The price and quality are similar to what you would get in a nice Princeton or NYC restaurant. This place definitely knows how to advertise their business in a way which is very deceiving. We came here for a birthday celebration and there were about 12 of us. We had reservations so had our table. We had ordered pretty much all the vegetarian apps from palak chaat, to the app with sweet potato and pesto paneer. All the apps were mediocre except the palak chaat, well all the veggie apps. We had ordered a lot so we kindly requested if we could cancel one of the mains since we literally had half the apps to pack back home, our sever said our main courses were ready. We kindly asked again if he could check with the kitchen mind that the restaurant was really busy and food was taking a while. He said our food is ready. Okay, so then we proceeded to wait another 20 mins for our food to come out. So our food wasn't ready for like 30 mins from the conversation we had about canceling an item. It's one thing to order thinking the wait will be 30-40 mins, but he made us order everything at once with the apps so we had no way of knowing how much we were gonna consume until we had the food. He tricked us into ordering all at once, and then said he couldn't do anything about it so we took half the food home with us. Yeah the food was a 5/10 to say the least and I do not recommend coming here. There are far better restaurants near by, oh also do not get the mock tails at all if you decide to come even after this review. They were all either way too sour or way too sweet. Worst takeout experience! Let me start by saying introduce salt jn food because everything was ridiculously sweet. I ordered dal bati, paneer tikka and jackfruit nihari ofcourse with roti. Dal bati- only thing you could taste either garlic or sugar. I had only half of bati and felt disgusted coz it was toooo sweet. First of bati was actually shaped and stuffed like kachori and it was nothing but sugar..Maybe by mistake added sugar instead of salt I don't know. Size was too small (pictures below) Jackfruit nihari- again all you could taste garlic cinnamon and sugar Paneer tikka masala was less worst than other 2 but again was sweet! I had dine in before and ordered same and was decent to the point I ordered for take out Roti - burnt ! First of all, I like all the dishes we ordered. I gave 1 star because their management ruining my appetite. 1. We did make reservation and they mentioned min. order is $600 2. One of us is allergy to pepper, restaurant don't have any dish w/o pepper, so she just sit there, drink water. 3. When we ordered, we double checked with waiter that our order was exceed $600. (Waiter didn't remind us anything), after we received our bill, LUCKLY we check our bill, there is a " Minimum Spent. $198" ????? Store manager told us, min $50/pp is the store policy. He insisted that we have to pay 14*$50=700 1. We respect their policy but "Min $50/pp" doesn't show on any place. Not on the wall, menu, or from waiters' mouth. No one remind us when we ordered our food. Even we clearly mention that we knew we have to order more than $600. 2. Cheating! cheating! cheating! they charge extra $198 without inform us. 3. My poor friend can't eat anything and the manager insisted, not negotiatable, count her as one, so, she has to pay $50 for water!!! I am so disappointed this unprofessional scenario happened at Rani. Stopped in for lunch and everything was delicious! The prices were a bit high, but on par for "fine dining." The restaurant is beautifully decorated, open, and clean. The servers were kind and attentive and even explained some of the cultural significance behind the foods we were eating. My husband asked for his spicy and forgot to say "indian spicy" which means it came out with very little heat. This was great for me because I meant I could try his food too!
