I went to Rangeview high school and graduated from there almost 30 years ago now. Let me tell you, that school was trash then and I can say it's trash now. The teachers couldn't have cared less about you as a student or person. Not to mention a certain gym teacher there that acted inappropriateky around myself and made some highly inappropriate comments to me. I was too afraid and embarrassed to speak up. And don't get me started on the athletic programs when I was there. They talk about eligibility requirements for sports, but if you are a star athlete or going for a state title, that doesn't matter. My experience there among other things in my life made me glad that I never had children because I wouldn't want them to go through what I went through there. I said what I said. read more

I always hated this school .. I remember my teacher dr O would never give me assignments and he did to everyone else and then when it was time to graduate he kinda had the oh well vibe .. he was actually really nice and really cool thats something can't compline about . Mrs dean my math teacher .. always in a bad mood .. she was always mad that I didn't understand her class but she never took her time to help me she always focused one everyone else ..me ryan the clay teacher .. didn't like her either .. I remember she threw away my art and acted like nothing happened while everyone else got their work ... hate her .. the ELA teachers were always the cool teachers that got thrown in the back like Mrs dawn mills she was so sweet ! When it was time to graduate she always helped me to make sure that I passed and I will for ever be greatfull for her ! Everytime I think of this school I hate how terrible I felt .. it sucks being the shy kid and haven't the teachers only pay attention to everyone else .. this school was also so easy to ditch and bring drugs ... the people who had guns or sold drugs never got caught because everyone would text each other to leave which sucked but I always told the deans about it ... I'm 27 now but dang I hope it better now for the new kids .. read more

I have friends that have been here and have been here myself. The school spirit is simply great very nice staff and the students current and past are some of the nicest people I have ever met. There is also a very nice basketball camp that is here that I heard was very fun. read more

This school was awful, as a past student I was never helped, my mental health was continuously disregarded and I was having lots of trouble with school but would receive little to no help. There were fights all the time and you were constantly looking over your shoulder to make sure you didn't get punched. Students would vape and smoke in the bathrooms all the time. You were not allowed off campus unless you had a principle pass, in order to get one you had to have a very good grade point average that's all, they didn't look at tour attendance, meaning those who struggled a little more with school never got and sort of time to help relieve any stress. They only ever focused on college and pushed kids who didn't want to go to college to just try and go. They never had enough resources. The school environment had gotten so bad for me too the point that I was terrified to go back there, I wish you could give a zero star rating read more

There's something seriously wrong with this school. I'll try to sum up in three short examples: #1 - My son's history teacher said "he gives an infinite number of do-overs" for tests with no sort of penalty whatsoever. This is a reflection of REAL LIFE, HOW? Boy, I wish my boss would give ME an infinite number of do-overs. #2 - The parent portal is NEVER updated except the day before mid-term progress reports come out and then a couple of days before report cards... Worthless. I've asked more than once about this, and there's a variety of excuses... "the tool is too difficult, etc.". Funny. When we were in DPS we never had these "problems" Maybe the "problem" is the fact that APS uses this stupid and arbitrary grading scale (oh, I'm sorry "standards based grading" that, of course, compares to NO OTHER STANDARD in this state). #3 - Strange "reward system" - One student was getting an F in English, and yet, somehow, got an "Academic Letter". REALLY? So this teaches kids that even when they screw around that they will be rewarded? Wow. Just Wow. I hate this school. read more

Being a student at Rangeview, i have experienced many things or encountered some quite interesting things id rather say. First of all, my background knowledge, most of my friends i have had go to a private schools here in the United States. Since Rangeview is not my first school in Colorado, i have lived in other states, but the first state i have lived in is Colorado, but that was long ago. Anyways, Most of my friends have or go to a private school of some sorts in the other states i lived, and the education, i would say was pretty good, far besides how strict they are, but Rangeview has some good things and bad. First is that i hate how grades are all standard base grading needs to go away, it is a form of grading that does not truly show what you know, but more of what the teacher thinks you know, and does not give that handy percentage we all like, it tends to be a problem because it could lead to favoritism, even though i have not experienced this, it could be a probability, it also tends to take away A's, because every different teacher, an Advanced grade is different, since standard base grading is a system that teachers have the power over. Second, Methods of teaching are not a good way to teach, we all heard of the phrase "take out your textbook, and do number" so and so "on page" whatever, and then what the teacher ends up doing is sitting down on her desk, and not help out, in math, i experienced this, honors core 3, teacher would say take out text book, work on the problem, if you don't get it, keep trying, at the end of class i give out answers, maybe explain how you get it. So this is not teaching in my way of viewing it,, and this needs to stop. There are a couple more problems i could mention, but i rather not waste more space on here. For the good news. The faculty is great, they interact with students help, social wise, sometimes academically, we got a few great teachers that get their students involved and teach in their own methods and still follow curriculum. Over all, this is an okay school, i have been to way better schools, and far more stricter which leads to a better education, which i do enjoy, but its not bad, i do enjoy learning there because it is different, but as far as the information i get or learn, is far too little, depending on the teacher. read more

School is what you make it, as a former student years ago, I was busy trying to make friends have good opinions about me, but when the time came to hit those books and actually put my time into improving my grades the teachers and staff in general always helped. Of course coming from Los Angeles its a huge difference, when the time comes for me to send my kid for high school, it's going to be here. :) read more

Reviewer Number 1 was right on target, this is the worst school ever. The teaching methods are just plain lazy. Kids ARE given multiple re-takes and the answers prior to the tests, so teachers can justify higher grades. Some kids cannot spell, but are passing English with A's, as teachers claim the kid is just a nice kid and they don't want to be harsh. Teachers provide answers to tests before they give them and students know more about the personal lives of teachers then they do about the subjects they are supposed to study. The principal is ineffective and will not make a sound decision to save her life. And please don't let your kid have an issue to try to get them to back you up to mold your kid into a good person - you are asking WAY too much of this school and the people in it. Students are lied to, pushed into decisions, and the administration is crap. There are no standards and if your kid is coasting, trust me that only means that by the time they actually graduate they will be lucky to be reading at an 8th grade reading level. One kid we know has been making all A's in her math class, and is in the 3rd level of the integrated math and could not pass the college accuplacer exam, getting under a 45 in elementary algebra - she was devastated to realize that she had learned nothing. And no one will be accountable to that kid - she is going to have to take a lot of remedial college classes to catch up. Bad kids are rewarded, just like the first viewer stated. And good kids are held back. The counselors are not willing to consider what is best for the kids and just try to get one to keep their word and actually meet with a parent. Hey try to get them to put it in writing or to respond with more the an evasive tactic and you have performed a miracle. I was blindly happy until I discovered that my kid actually had a problem that needed addressing and the counselor turned on our kid and us - making them wait weeks for a meeting and not responding to request for information - what a way to show you care about kids!!! There is nothing stellar about the new curriculum because the kids are only allowed to access part of it - as in no flexibility and no choices, though they lied to parents and told parents the kids would be able to have 7 classes, even posted to their website that freshman and sophomores could 6 with an alternate 7th and that juniors and seniors could get 5 with an alternate 6th. Most of my kid's friends, headed to the 12th grade simply have 4 classes and their alternates were removed by their counselors. And the "Standards Based Grading' is a lesson in deceit. As it the Response to Intervention Model. This about it like this, if your kid is progressing, it matters not the level of progress, or the depth of it, but merely the fact that if has occurred and the school is happy. BE CAREFUL PARENTS - and move your kids if you can or don't place them here. There is no honesty at this school and zero accountability. read more

There are several things wrong with Rangeview. 1. Starting with the Tardy and Absence Policy: Students who accumulate 15 or more unexcused classroom period absences and/or 45 or more unexcused classroom tardies during the third quarter of the 2010-2011 school year are ineligible to attend extracurricular activities during fourth quarter. A student would have to nearly miss the entire quarter before the school took the issue seriously. 2. Students are allowed to fail tests and assignments and have as many do-overs as they need to be able to pass. Key fact, the test never changes, the student just has more chances to get it right. 3. As a parent, I requested that my student have her ability to leave campus taken away because she was falling behind and acting up, and the school had and issue with that because she had a B in one class (art - not even art history). As if the F's and D's in the other classes (English, Science, Math, SS) did not matter. But when she left the school one day, they called me and texted me that she needed to be there - for what? 4. Teachers don't respond to emails. 5. The Principal is unresponsive. 6. The school looses another 17 teachers next year and all my student ever hears about is how the teachers need to find another job, how the students need to save the teachers jobs, and how the teachers families are suffering due to the changes. But they don't have that much detail about the subject matter. That is frustrating and irresponsible. I am hoping to move my student as soon as I can. read more

To tell you the truth Rangeview really isn't a bad school to be in. Sure there are times when others say that our school is "ghetto", or that the school sucks, but have they really been to Rangeview? Probably not. Rangeview is just like any other school that requires some discipline of there students. But hey, they sure do make up for it with activities they host. Along with the choice of a variety of lunches (which from what I hear, not many other schools really do), and if you are allowed by the teachers, you can use your mp3 players during class. Not many schools are lenient on school rules. Rangeview is a school of chance, where they will try something new to see if it can benefit both you as a student and them as a school. In other words, you help them achieve their goal, then they will help you achieve your needs or wants that are able to work along side with the school. But don't get me wrong either, there are teachers there to push you to your limits in order to make you a better person, and to help prepare you for the outside word of childhood. Even I have teachers that are harder than hell on me, but they do it because its there way of saying, "If you cant make it through my class, let alone high school? Then how would you expect to make it through the real world? When you need to get a job just to support yourself, or need money to buy your new video games?". They say this because they care about your success. Sure i agree with the fact "Crypto S." has pointed out, on where some teachers give infinite number of do-overs to students. Personally i do see how it wouldn't help students in the real world, but the teachers are trying to see if the students understand the concept that they need to learn the information that is given to them, that way they do have an idea on what is actually out there. For some job requirements only require you to know the basic high school minimum in order to work. And that is why I am only giving Rangeview 3 stars, for its was a good school, but personally I believe the school could have been a little better. read more

I agree with the first individual who posted the 3 reasons why there is something seriously wrong with this school. I agree with the first two examples given, especially the parent portal issue. I worked for APS for 22 years and found this to be true. Teachers are never held accountable for not updating the information parents are supposed to have access to. Just a waste of taxpayer money because it is basically a useless tool if it is not current. As far as students being rewarded for not doing well in school - get this - athletes can be failing 2 classes and STILL be eligible to play their sport. I remember (when I worked for APS) that a student was ineligible to play sports if he or she had one "D". This is not a Rangeview rule but and APS rule. Really people? What does this teach our kids - I think it teaches them that they don't really have to take their education seriously as long as they perform in the gym. read more
