So . . . if you aren't interested in music at this level, please read no further. If you are interested, then "this level" is not even accurate. These kids were fantastic! Each Concert segment (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble) played three pieces and each time they had the entire audience on their feet clapping. So, yes, there were a lot of proud parents there . . . a full house even . . . on the night of a big home Bronco game no less. But they had reason to be proud . . . these were not "get-a-music-credit-out-of-the-way" musicians , , , these were musicians who know their craft. I would lay money on a large percentage of them going on to some field of music. They were that good. And you know what that means? They were blessed with excellent music instructors. It was a night of music that I won't soon forget. These kids are our future and I couldn't be prouder. And, no, to answer your question . . . I am NOT related to a single one of them . . . but I am super proud of their musical ability. If you have the opportunity to attend their next concert . . . do they have one in the Spring? . . . don't miss it.

Most of my teachers at my time at Prairie were pretty relatable and I could get along with. But there were some teachers (probably 5-6 teachers) that didn't give a shit and didn't like their job. The food variety at these schools are ass, like can you at least put some different options and not put the same thing every day. Now, my husband (also an RMSEL graduate) and I are looking at the school for our kindergarten-aged child. While RMSEL has grown and changed over the years, I believe its core values remain the same. The key takeaways I received from my time there are life skills that have followed me into adulthood and served me well in my career--resiliency, problem-solving, and independence. The expeditions were life-changing in so many ways: they offered my first experiences with developing countries, and they required a level of self-discipline that shaped who I am today. We currently have friends whose children are in kindergarten at RMSEL, and we love hearing about their experiences. Small class sizes, meeting children where they are, and introducing expeditions at such a young age are key reasons we're excited to return as a family. As a teenager, RMSEL was a blessing to me, even when I didn't always see it that way. Returning as an adult, I could recognize how the expeditions build resilience--even when the students themselves don't yet realize it. This school pushes kids to step outside their comfort zones, and many won't appreciate the benefits until years later. The very things I resisted as a teen are now the things I credit most for my personal growth. If you're looking for a school that teaches more than academics--a place that nurtures real-world life skills that will serve your children well into adulthood--RMSEL is a truly special place.

My daughter was behind coming into the school, and had a hard time staying on track with her classmates. One of the therapist that helps children that are falling behind in reading noticed that my daughter was learning differently than the other students. She suggested a specialized children's ophthalmologist, for an issue that not many would notice. She changed the course of my daughters life. She's now in vision therapy and gets extra help at school. They noticed a learning disability and jumped on it quickly. I couldn't be happier with our experience at DJDS and look forward to watching all three of my daughters strive there.

"Immersion" happens twice a year, and involves a few days of "deep diving" into non-traditional subjects to accommodate the way gifted children tend to learn. The topics change each time, so there is a wide berth of opportunities. The take-home workload often matches the pace of the classrooms, and parent/adult involvement is important to the overall success of children as they grow and evolve. One teaching in Spanish, the next Arabic, then the final one in English. It was quite distracting and was an inefficient way to teach. I transferred out after a semester.

The school's attendance rate, which has been on a decline for years now, dramatically declined once the deans started to tell students wandering the halls to go home. This is the same year that faculty began to worry about the declining attendance rate and expressing this worry to the students. The school's goal of 85% attendance rate? they made it unrealistic for themselves by allowing their deans to continue to antagonize rather than encouraging them to help anyone. If your student struggles academically or with authority, dont send them here. find somewhere better that wont make them feel singled out, like theyre doing bad, find somewhere that wants to help them improve that behavior. If your student is good at dealing with authority or excels academically, also keep in mind that this school is highly based in being a community. there are smaller options that provide just as many opportunities. all in all, its a fine enough school. Your child may do great things here, but certain things that the faculty do may lead them to hate school.
