I hate writing bad reviews. I seldom do but here we are. Two in one week! We ate at Rangeen for lunch this week. We both tried the buffet. So my review is for the buffet. They have a lot of options on the menu and many may be wonderful. The dining room is well decorated and bright. Our waiter was nice. Water stayed full. The fresh naan was delicious!!! The buffet was small, limited. There was dal, butter chicken, samosas, etc. I think maybe we just hit them on an off day? The rice was nearly empty and very dried out. They were out of goat curry when we went to the table but the waiter kindly offered to go ask the kitchen for more. I did not try it but my husband enjoyed it. There was a bin with a little lettuce and some tomato slices labeled salad. Some pappadum and some tamarind chutney. Meh. Should we go back perhaps I will try the bhel puri. For what it is, the buffet seemed expensive. They also offer a thali plate for lunch. I saw some people eating this and it looked good. I forgot to take pictures. read more

Overall I thought the food was really good, although a little different in terms of the biryani. I've never had biryani that looked like how they served it, but nevertheless, the portions were generous and it was very flavorful. I did ask for "Indian spicy" and didn't really find it that spicy though. I had plenty leftover the next day! My mom got a dal and I thought it was excellent! This is a very assuming place and at the time we went (Sunday afternoon at 3pm), there were not too many people. We could smell the spices ansndexides to give it a shot. We got to sit anywhere we wanted, there was an option of a row of booths or tables and chairs on a lower level. We opted for a booth. The menu was extensive and had a whole section just for dishes with eggs. Admittedly, I wasn't sure but decided a couple of dishes--an appetizer, a boiled green egg and an entree, Lachko. Rangeen: Where Hope Goes to Die (Hungry) Went to Rangeen last Friday with my coworkers and let me just say, if mediocrity had a Michelin star, this place would still be snubbed. The place was empty, which should have been the first red flag. But optimism (and hunger) got the better of me. What awaited us was the smallest buffet known to mankind. I've seen more variety in a vending machine. It was so barren, I half expected David Attenborough to narrate it: "Here we see the endangered species of Indian food, nearly extinct in this desolate habitat..." And the food that was there? The dal was so salty, it could have been harvested from the Dead Sea. There were two chicken dishes, but you'd never know it unless you read the label, and even then, I suspect the chef just played Mad Libs with curry names. The poppadoms were shattered into what looked like the aftermath of a windshield accident, and they had no raita. At an Indian buffet. That's like showing up to a birthday party and finding out there's no cake!!! But wait, it gets worse!!! They had the gall, the chutzpah, the full-on audacity to slap an 18% "large party" gratuity on a self-service buffet. Let me say that again: SELF. SERVICE. BUFFET. No waiter took my order , no "how's everything".... just an unsolicited tip for carrying your own plate like a chump. When I asked about it, they smugly pointed to a QR code with fine print like they were unveiling some secret legal loophole. No signs. No verbal mention. Just bad vibes and a side of betrayal. Honestly, this place isn't a restaurant, it's an Indian scam with a steam tray. I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. The only "rangeen" (colorful) thing about the afternoon was my rage. As an Indian person, I am embarrassed that this place represents my culture and sincerely hope it shut down quickly and quietly, and may the ghost of proper Indian food haunt its cursed kitchen forever. read more

My niece and her boyfriend accompanied me to Rangeen on October 5th for my 70th birthday feast. And feast we did. We had three entrees, (all came with rice) one lamb, 2 chicken. The not spicy was still nicely seasoned. One dish was mild spicy which I found delicious as the dish tickled my tongue producing a tiny beading of sweat upon my forehead. We started with a masala papad and both garlic naan and the butter naan, all very well prepared. The desi chai was not too sweet and a perfect accompaniment to the meal. My niece had a mango lassi ( two actually). We shared two desserts: Ras Malai and Gulab Jamun with Ice-cream. It is not a fancy looking place, but the food was hot and nutritious. read more

No way. I was overly hyped to see this new place with so many stars on yelp, because we've been desperately burned by all of the South Indian options in the area. In full disclosure, we ordered take out, but it's a 5 minute drive home. We were told 20 minutes, but it took almost an hour to get our food. The place was pretty crowded on a week night at 7 - good for them. Samosa chat - too overly dressed in yogurt, almost no spice, tasted like sogged cereal in yogurt. Dal Tadka - extremely bland. This tasted no more than lentil soup. We ordered "everything (Indian) spicy", but this really just missed the mark. There were noticeable hard lumps of lentil and this literally tasted of starchy water. Chicken Biryani - what was this? It completely missed the mark. It was tossed in a very dark brown masala that tasted more of soy than anything. This was closer to chicken fried rice than biriyani. Chunks of (boneless) chicken were non-descriptor. Overy greasy and too heavy. This reminded me more of a Bengali biriyani than anything, but again the flavor profile was just so not biriyani I don't know how to describe it. I'm so confused. Boti kabob - one note of spice with a very nondescript meat. Tasted more of tofu than anything. The mint chutney on the side seemed like it was out of a jar. Railroad chicken - another boneless chicken dish. I think this had some chopped chunky garlic in it, but it was so one note. It just tasted like a mirchi bomb, no salt, no flavor other than heat. Charred chilis - my Hyderabadi wife said this was the best thing she ate. I concur. Just charred Thai chilis. I don't think this was an off day, it was just so forgettable and a little pricey given the location. Hard pass. read more

Update: Called restaurant per request of whomever replied to my original review. Was told he was unavailable. Spoke to a lady who eventually hung up on me. Apparently, Rangeen does not use potatoes in any non-veg dish, even though the name of the dish is known world-wide and includes the name 'aloo' which means potato. According to the lady I spoke to, they only give 6 small pieces of chicken in sauce for all curry recipes on the menu. And they don't include potatoes in any non-veg curry even if it's in the actual name of the food/recipe and everyone ordering it would expect. They tried to be clever and removed 'chicken vindaloo' from the menu by the time I called before I could pull up the description that should, by definition, include potatoes (they probably will add it back in a few days so beware). I don't usually post reviews but $19 for 6 pieces of chicken in a bad sauce AND they mislead customers with the name AND then ask me to call them to give them a chance to rectify their mistake AND then hang up on me = TERRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE!!! ________________________ Original Review: Ordered Chicken Vindaloo, which literally translates to chicken, 'vin' as in vinegar and aloo as in potato, and asked for 'Indian ' spicy. Got 6 small pieces of chicken swimming in a container of sauce, not a single potato, and so mild that a young kid could eat it. When I called to ask about the order, no answer. A friend brought me here for dinner and I was blown away. The place looks great, the service was fantastic, the plating was aesthetically pleasing, and, most importantly, it was delicious. For starters we had samosa, which were large and full of flavourful spices and potato, and the pani puri, which is one of my favourite appetizers. My friend ordered the egg masala sandwich which he claimed may be his favourite new sandwich and I had the chicken butter masala, I asked for it spicy and it did not disappoint. The chicken was all large tender chunks of white meat and the gravy was super flavourful paired with my garlic naan. I'm a simple man, I love to dip bread in sauce and this was perfect. I've eaten at Rangeen twice now, and I can honestly say that this may be the best new Indian place in the Atlanta area. It's clean, it's warm, and it's very inviting with some incredibly friendly people. And then there's the food. Rangeen makes some of the most fresh, incredibly creative dishes I've seen at an Indian place. The first time I went I ordered a bit more traditional (a Malvani dish with garlic naan) and the spices and flavor were amazing. The naan was plentiful and dipping it into my spicy Malvani was a delight. The second time I went and brought a friend to experience it. This time I went to try more of their fusion style sandwiches. I asked an employee for a recommendation and he knocked it out of the park with a toasted sandwich. The best way to describe it was like a Japanese egg sando, but with garam masala, jalapeños, cheese, mayo, tomato, and perfectly toasted bread. It literally was the best toasted sandwich I've had in years. I can't wait to go back and try their insanely extensive menu options, including wraps/dosas, more toasted sandwiches and more! This location was formerly Haveli and I went there for almost 3 decades. Unfortunately the food went way downhill a decade ago so boy was I thrilled when I saw a NEW South Indian place here! Luckily the interior was completely redone so it's well lit and has some serious positive vibes. We damn near ordered everything on the menu but heed my warning: medium spicy is pretty close to "vindaloo" spicy if you know anything about Indian cuisine. The waitress said with a straight face "medium is one step above children's spicy". Next time, I will order mild just to be safe. I wasn't crazy about having scan my menu like the old days of COVID. I wish they would at least have a paper menu. We ordered the vegetable biryani which for some reason took way longer than the rest of the meal but we had way too much rice anyway. The biryani was worth the wait brimming with fresh veggies and flavor. The naan was first rate, the butter chicken was one of the tenderest chicken I've had at an Indian place. The samosa chaat was very different than I've ever had; there wasn't a crunch and I missed that. All in all, it was one of the best Indian places I've eaten at here in the ATL and highly recommend the OTP drive to experience this place. read more

Went here for the grand opening yesterday, and it was absolutely phenomenal! The interior was bright, lively, and clean. When we looked at the menu, we were impressed with all of the variety. There are many many unique dishes with egg in it (that is their speciality!) however for vegetarians who don't eat eggs or vegans there are still plenty of options! We honestly did not know what to choose because everything sounded so good! The staff were very helpful as we were deciding what to get. I do wish that the menus had pictures and descriptions becuase we didn't know what many of the dishes were. We started off with Pani Puri which was amazing!!! I could have eaten 30 of those. The pani was flavored perfectly and the sauce it comes with provided a nice flavor to go with. We also started with a chicken wrap which is a simple yet flavorful wrap. Additionally, we landed on Hum Tum which was a creamy egg dish that comes with bread, and the Vrindaloo which is a vegetable curry that comes with rice. We also got the soya chunks which were flavored and cooked to perfection!!! We finished off with rose falooda and galab jamun with ice cream! Everything was splendid and I can't wait to go back to try other things!! My only request would be to please add pictures and/or descriptions on the menu and have physical copies of the menu available as well (right now it is only the web menu). Upon walking through the front door, I immediately fell in love. The decor is so thoughtfully designed, cheery, and bright, it immediately set the right vibe. The man who took our order was so incredibly helpful (maybe an owner or manager?). I mentioned I don't like cilantro (I'm genetically afflicted with the soap taste!), and he made sure our entrees were cilantro-free. My husband and I started with the Pani Puri, which we have never tried before and I was *obsessed* with it. I think they made the "flavorful water" with no cilantro for me? Or if it did have cilantro, it was not enough to affect the flavor. The spiciness had me seeing stars--we love spicy. We also ordered the butter chicken masala, which we will be ordering EVERY time, and the Chicken Handi, which was also GREAT, but we will try something different next time. If you are spice lords like us, I recommend trying "regular" heat before going all in on "hot." It was plenty spicy for us. My husband and I will definitely be coming back again and again. read more

The food is simply outstanding. From the appetizers, main course, and drinks, you will not go wrong. We tried the Green Boiled eggs, Cheese Katoori, Hum Tum(BEST), Chicken Seekh, Lava Pulao, & Malvani Eggs. If you are an Eggetarian, you don't want to miss this place. All the dishes were prepared according to our spice level request. I do not think there is a restaurant in Atlanta area serving up Indian style street egg cuisine. Event though they had group event, the hostess was quick and courteous in attending regular patrons with ease. This place is a culinary gem. We certainly are going to visit again.
