We're always up for Indian food and bonus points when we find a place that gets the spices just right without overpowering the dish! THE FOOD. - Papdi Chaat. This arrived as a beautiful chaos of crunchy wafers, cool yogurt, tangy tamarind, and bright herbs. Each bite was a combination of sweet, creamy, spicy, and crispy. It's an interesting dish to try out. - Curry (Lamb). The lamb was tender and well-braised while the tomato-based sauce was rich, tangy, and perfectly balanced with warm spices and a mild heat. Comforting, flavorful, and definitely something I'd order again. - Curry (Saag Paneer). Mild and earthy, this features soft cubes of paneer in a smooth, velvety spinach sauce. It's my favorite and if you're also a fan of saag paneer, I'd highly recommend ordering this. THE VERDICT. Rangeen Kitchen delivered flavorful Indian comfort food with thoughtful execution. If you're craving something vibrant, tasty, and reliably satisfying, this is the spot!
Rangoon Kitchen calls itself an "Indi Cali Kitchen" - if you're expecting authentic Indian food, prepare to be disappointed. The flavors here are very restrained and there's no spicy heat either. We got a couple of lunch combos - saag paneer and paneer tikka masala ($14.99). (After seeing the photos of the chicken tikka masala, which looked liked small bits of grilled chicken dumped on top of the sauce, paneer seemed like the better choice.) The masala sauce was on the sweet side. The combos came with chana masala, rice, raita and garlic naan. The garlic naan was my fave part of the meal. I'm guessing there's not much competition for Indian food in South OC, which is why this place has such high ratings. Plenty of parking in the lot.
Rangeen calls itself Indian-Californian, which in a tired little strip mall can sound like the kind of identity crisis best avoided. I'd driven past it plenty of times on the way to the dog groomer and never once felt compelled to stop. Friday night changed that. We were hungry, but not sit-down-for-two-hours hungry. We wanted something better than fast food, but not some overproduced evening of cocktails and self-importance. We wanted food worth getting out of the car for. Rangeen hit that mark beautifully. Getting my wife on board took some work. She's not a curry person. But a few online photos of fresh, vibrant salads were enough to win her over. Inside, the place still showed traces of whatever came before it, a blank quick-serve menu screen hanging awkwardly over the counter, like a relic from another life. But this was table service, and a perfectly comfortable one at that. There were maybe eight or nine tables, and one lone server holding down the front of house. Casual, older, thin, moving with purpose. She greeted us warmly, dropped menus, answered the phone, checked back often, kept the table tidy, and somehow managed to make the whole room feel cared for without a hint of drama. I went for the spicy mango chicken. My wife chose a healthy-looking salad with grilled sweet potatoes, nuts, and all the things I generally avoid unless someone smarter than me orders them first. We added naan, because not ordering naan would have been foolish. The food took a few minutes longer than the impatient part of your brain might expect. But then it arrived, and suddenly none of that mattered. My dish was excellent: nicely seasoned bite-sized pieces of chicken, rice, a fresh side salad, and a spicy sauce that pulled the whole thing together with real intention. And the plating, that was the surprise. This wasn't tossed on a plate like an afterthought from the spot next to the grocery store. It looked like someone actually gave a damn. And that, really, is what stays with you. Not just that the food was good, but that care had gone into it. The ingredients may not have been expensive, I say that as someone who owns restaurants and knows roughly what things cost, but value isn't about raw food cost. It's about what arrives at the table, how it's presented, and whether anybody in the building seems to care if you enjoy it. At $19, this was a steal. For about the price of a drive-thru burger meal, I got something thoughtful, well executed, and satisfying enough to remind me why local places like this matter. And to the party of four next to us who only left a five-dollar tip: do better.
Rangeen Kitchen is quickly becoming one of my happy places in South OC. It is bright, cozy, and colorful, and you can feel the Indi Cali thing as soon as you sit down. It feels casual enough to bring kids, but the flavors are absolutely grown up. We started with the Pani Puri and the Gobhi Manchurian. The Pani Puri is everything you want in that first bite, crisp semolina puris that you fill and dunk so you get the hit of potatoes, spiced water, and sweet tamarind in one shot. The Gobhi Manchurian is addictive, fried cauliflower tossed in a sweet, tangy, spicy sauce with just enough ginger and chili that you keep reaching back "just for one more piece." The kids were thrilled with the Chicken Tender Meal - kids, which comes with chicken tenders and fries and actually feels like real food instead of an afterthought on the menu. For mains, we shared the Plate: Paneer Tikka and the Plate: Chicken Mango Habanero Chicken Tikka. Both arrive beautifully plated with herb salad, rice, and tikka sauce, which makes it really easy to share. The Paneer Tikka is grilled paneer and bell peppers, nicely charred, with lime pickled onions on top that cut through the richness in the best way. The Chicken Mango Habanero Chicken Tikka is the star, juicy grilled chicken smothered in a sweet and spicy mango habanero sauce with bell peppers. It has a slow, pleasant heat and never tips into "too sweet," especially when you drag a piece through the tikka sauce and the rice. Drinks and dessert were such a fun part of the meal. We tried two of the the Masala Chai, and a Mango Lassi. The Masala Chai comes hot and fragrant, with warm spices that feel like a hug in a cup, and the Mango Lassi is creamy and not overly sweet, a great reset between bites of spice. We finished with Gulab Jamun, soft, warm, and soaked in syrup with that hint of cardamom and rose that lets you know someone cared about the details. Service is where Rangeen really shines. Jaime gave us genuinely some of the best service I have had in the area. He was super attentive and kind, checked on us often without hovering, walked us through the menu, and took care of us like it was his own restaurant. By the end of the meal we felt like family, not just another table to turn. Between the thoughtful food, kid friendly options, and the way Jaime and the team take care of you, Rangeen Kitchen is absolutely going into our regular rotation.
This is an "Indi-Cali" restaurant vs. a traditional Indian one. I had not known that and had warned my fellow diners about how hot/spicy Indian food can be. I cautioned them to make sure they didn't order something that was too spicy. It turned out that my warning was not needed. Everything was gently spiced and extremely tasty. Each dish had a refreshing blend of sauces, spices and intricate flavors. Service was on the slow side, but that was because each dish was freshly prepared, and not pre-cooked. The chicken in my dish was fully cooked and, at the same time, moist and tender. Portions were substantial and prices were reasonable. I look forward to my next visit.

Beautiful restaurant with great food and a modern, clean look. The dishes were all tasty and felt fresh and homemade, and the staff was friendly and on top of things throughout the night. The ambiance made it a great spot to sit down and actually enjoy the meal its in a super nice plaza in oc so there's also just more to do if need be :))

I haven't had Indian food for quite a while so I thought I'd try this restaurant out. Very nice interior decor and seating area. The menu was pretty extensive wit so many tempting choices! I got the chicken tikka sandwich, chicken tawa rice, & butterfly pea flower iced tea. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. The papadam that was brought out was such a nice snack to munch on while waiting for my food. I definitely can't wait to return and try some other entrees. read more

When you get here make sure to CHECK IN! the free drink that comes with that is AMAZING! "Marigold passion fruit" TO DIE FOR! Refreshing and bold! We started with chicken manchurian then shared a habanero mango chicken tikka and a chicken tikka masala curry. I'll put it this way "fresh! Tasteful! Mouth watering!" This is my favorite Indian restaurant! Everything is super flavorful and delicious, and the owners are the sweetest. My parents dine there so often that they know the owners now. I appreciate that they have dietary labels on the menu which makes it easy for me to order gluten-free. The complimentary lentil chip appetizer with dip is gluten-free and the perfect starter. My favorite appetizer is the Crispy Green Chaat. It consists of lightly battered kale and jalapeños and is topped with popped water lily seeds and some sauce. All the flavors and textures just work so well together and it's gluten-free too! The presentation of this dish is beautiful as well. I love the chana masala because it is gluten and dairy-free. You can really taste the spices and it's not too spicy (I'm sensitive to spice). It comes with rice too. I tried the chicken tikka masala but I'm lactose intolerant so that didn't sit well with my stomach even though it was super yummy. My mom loves the lamb meatballs dish. I've been meaning to try the drinks because they sound super refreshing. I highly recommend this family-owned local spot. This restaurant is now on my family's list of go-to spots when dining out. read more

We went there because of the great reviews but to be honest it just didn't impress at all. The restaurant looks like a fast food place and really not somewhere you want to go on a date on a Saturday night. The owner and staff were very nice but both chicken tikka masala and paneer tikka masala lacked salt and there were watery. As we sat down they brought a papadum with sour cream. Hubby ordered a glass of wine and they brought a small glass which was half full. I thought that was a rip off. If you want to order alcohol, order beer instead. The portion size runs on the small side. The best part of the dinner for me was the mango lassi. They gave us a happy hour discount of 10%. The bill came out about $50. read more

The gobi manchurian is a must. It's delicious. The masala fries are delicious. I ordered the fish tikka as a lunch special - I didn't like that I was served hot food in a plastic bowl whereas my friend had her meal on a plate. The fish could have used more flavor and the Chole as well. The Chole was good, but not a wow. My friend liked her chicken tikka sandwich. The Papad was good and the butterfly iced tea as well. Overall this place is good. I will try it a couple more times since it just opened up. read more

We came the very first day that they opened and ordered five or six different menu items and every single one of them was excellent! I suppose the reason I was so impressed is because usually at soft openings the service is lacking and the quality is just so-so but this place surpassed any of my past doubts. The food itself had so many different variations of flavors all layered into the perfect bites. The cauliflower appetizer was probably one of my favorites; it's fried but the sauce and heat made it a unique taste, and I couldn't get enough of it! The lamb was well seasoned and prepared like koobideh so it was very tender. The Chicken habanero was tender and cooked perfectly (not dry) the sauce had a little kick but it was very tasty it didn't overtake the plate. We absolutely finished every bite of the beet and fig salad with creamy goat cheese three words: to die for! All in all I can't recommend this place enough and I do hope that they will have a successful business! We're on our way back today! read more

Came in tonight (Friday) at about 6PM and it was pretty busy, however we didn't have any issues finding a table to sit at. When we got to the counter to order, the cashier was very friendly, knowledgable about the menu, and made great recommendations. We ended up ordering the crispy masala shrimp, lamb curry, chicken wings, and the pana cotta dessert. Everything tasted amazing and it was all easily split between two adults. We got takeout because my parents live nearby. Here's what we ordered: cauliflower app, kale salad, Chana masala, fish tikka masala and the chicken tawa rice and a couple of naans (plain and garlic). There was a mixup when I came to pick it up. Someone had taken my order by mistake but the person working was very apologetic and quickly remade the order (and threw in an extra rice). Now on to the food: Cauliflower- the best dish by far! I can only imagine how much even tastier it is when dining in and it comes out sizzling hot Kale salad- meh. Nice to get some fresh greens but the kale wasn't massaged so it wasn't that appetizing. I wouldn't order it again Chana masala- yummy and not greasy at all. Definitely a repeat item Fish tikka masala-ok so here's my issue with this one. My husband said it was really good but there was literally 1 piece of fish and the rest just curry. $17 for the dish so that was pretty disappointing. Not sure it always comes with so little fish or if they messed up but at that price and for so little fish he wouldn't get it again Chicken tawa rice-meh. My husband preferred the regular basmati rice Naan- the garlic one was good per my husband but the plain one lacked all flavor (makes sense because it was vegan) Overall, I wouldn't mind trying it again if I'm in the area again but I probably won't go out of my way to add it to our rotation read more

As you all know I try all the new restaurants for reviews for everyone! I stopped in on their first day open. Typically new restaurants have a lot of kinks to work out, NOT this one. This place rocks! The food is absolutely delicious, fresh and as their name sake means "colorful". I had the Califlower, Mango Chicken, and a dessert of stuffed chocolate donuts with a mango sauce and panna cotta with Rose and pistachio. I also had this amazing drink made with marigolds! The staff is very helpful and wonderful, not one bad thing to report, this restaurant is here to stay. * Note, this is not a fast food joint, everything is made to order, so put on your patience pants and put your phone down and have a great conversation with your neighbor and savor the experience. read more

Chase and Jaime were AHHHH-MAZING! Man they work well together! Tables full on a Tuesday night at 530 PM. This evening, I ordered the the Chicken Tikka Masala and a Marigold Passionfruit Iced Tea. The flavor, the ambiance, THE SERVICE...I found my new hot spot for Indian food! I live in Tustin and work in Irvine...but the 73 will drop me right off at RAGEEN. I'm traveling here EVERYTIME! Modern Indian Cuisine has arrived to Laguna Niguel!! We have tried Rangeen several times and loved it every single time. The owners are amazing at hospitality and go the extra mile to make sure you have a great time there. Tip - the food is freshly prepared (not mass produced on a conveyor belt!!), so be prepared to be patient and have a real conversation (yes, that's still possible!! ) while you wait for your uber delicious meals. I've reached foodie heaven!! I've tried this place a couple of times now and have had stellar meals both times. The service here is OUTSTANDING and attentive, at the level that you would expect in a fine dining setting. I can't wait to come back. I love the chicken tikka masala and this time I tried the dessert sampler which I highly recommend. The food here is incredibly inventive and it tastes as good as it is beautiful. AMAZING! This is truly a one of a kind restaurant that people NEED to know about. Indian cuisine with Cali flare! The menu is curated to take you to foodie heaven. Delicious, fresh, colorful plates that are sure to make you come back for more. We couldn't decide what to order so obviously had to try an array- crispy green chaat, chicken tikka masala, mango habanero chicken tikka, samosas, garlic naan, beet & fig salad, the dessert sampler, and the marigold passionfruit specialty drink. A friend recommended this place and I was shocked upon arrival realizing where I was because I go next door for waffles all the time! Upon entering, I noticed it was a small casual place and smelled delicious. I honestly do not like Indian food because I find it too heavy and generally everything is brown and curried. Well, this place has a Cali twist and my friends and I LOVED it. Not only was the food so colorful, vibrant, and fresh but the plating was on par with fine dining. The crispy green chaat was my favorite, it tasted very healthy yet it was delicious, and crispy. The complimentary chips were an unexpected and wonderful start. The chicken tikka plates that we shared were juicy and fresh. I really enjoyed the mango habanero, the flavor was so light and there was a kick from the habanero but it wasn't spicy to the point where you couldn't eat it. I also enjoyed the marigold passion fruit, it was a little on the sweet side for me but it had a little fizzle and was very refreshing. Service was great, they were all so friendly and helpful and came to take our order at the table (but you pay at the counter). We were all so happy to have discovered this hidden gem. Hi David. We don’t have any buffet because we believe in utmost quality and small batches. We do have lunch special bowls though which range from $12-$14.5 which comprise of a protein, rice, salad and soup. Come and enjoy our dine-in! Thanks!

Yes absolutely. All of our food starts at a regular level and we can go up to med or hot.
