This place always delivers great flavor, fresh ingredients, and friendly service. It's a shame that it's in such a broken down area of stores that are failing. It's inside of a very small courtyard that used to have a couple more shops and dance studios. There's even a large 24 hour fitness which turned into a different fitness center that you would think would help pump up the area, but I think that fitness place is also closed. The courtyard that second reef deli is located in has spaces for a handful of interesting food spots and could be a great place for people to socialize and hang out. There is a Mexican restaurant called flamingos located just behind the courtyard but I think that's more of a nighttime spot although they are open at 11 AM for lunch. With regards to the sandwiches at second deli, you really can't go wrong. The Sandwiches are all names of surf spots. I love that they serve sprouts and squaw bread which is really hard to find. The #11 Padang is really popular for the hot sandwiches as well as one called Blacks. That's a tuna melt! The Brooks on squaw and the Mavericks which comes on squaw are my favorite go to choices for cold sandwiches. I hope they continue to thrive in this location and that it improves around them. I was craving a sandwich, wanted to try something new, and support a small business. We came by right before closing, around 3:15pm on a Saturday. The older couple running the place were just the cutest, super sweet and accommodating. We probably walked in about five minutes before their actual closing time, and they were already cleaning up, but they insisted on helping us anyway (even though we would have totally understood if they didn't). We ordered the two vegetarian options on the menu. I especially loved the bread on the cold sandwich. It was fresh, soft, and slightly sweet. The veggie melt just needed a bit more salt, but I liked the hint of spice. Overall, good solid sandwiches, but nothing particularly standout. We paid about $30 for two sandwiches, one bag of chips, and a small tip. A bit pricey for what it was, but I appreciated that they use fresh, quality ingredients. Honestly, not sure I would go out of my way to come back (unless I was already in the area), but it was a nice experience and I'm glad we tried it. Second Reef is tucked in an unassuming plaza, you'll have to park and walk into it. It's the same plaza as pure hockey + Greek bistro. If you park near pure hockey and look over to the Greek bistro you'll see second reef! The customer service here is excellent and they are very helpful.
