Came to Range Master after a horrible experience at another range down south... Cough cough. My girlfriend and I are new to firearms and we studied the NRA website and came prepared to take the DOJ and do some shooting at the range. Everyone was super knowledgable and friendly!! The guy Matt that helped us out was awesome and he even invited us to a restaurant where he guest cooks some GFC chicken on Friday nights in Five Cities. Excellent staff and environment! My wife and I only came to shoot. We shoot a fair amount and get itchy trigger fingers on our many coastal trips so we decided to try this place. While I can't attest to the service the for guns and ammo, we had great service on the range side. The gals at the front counters were friendly and outgoing. Te range is well, lit, well ventilated and overall a good indoor range. We will be back to shoot more paper bad guys! read more

What good is a store if they never have what I need? As a 5.11 retailer it is pathetic the amount of stock they carry. SIX times I have been to this store and have walked out empty handed. Waste of time dealing with this store that clearly doesn't need my money. I've heard all the excuses, popular size blah blah. Time before last the guy told me "oh don't worry, 5.11 rep will come in and redesign our whole display and we'll have way more items in blah blah." Still nothing, still a waste of time. read more

Stop right here and don't waste your time !! Go to Four Seasons or Templeton Uniform and never look back....Range Master is by far the worst gun/ uniform store you could possibly fathom. Customer service is horrible and the guys behind the counter have the idea that they are on the SWAT team and you are below their level of knowledge. I literally waited 15 minutes at the counter while the employee kept punching buttons on his computer, never said a thing. After this, I decided to try the front cashier was doing absolutely nothing, thinking I'd get help, and yup you guessed it, she told me to go back and ask the guys behind the counter for help. My boyfriend and I came in to very excited to shoot our brand new Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 and we were so disappointed to find that it was misfiring about 50% of the rounds. The man behind the counter (sorry I didn't catch his name) lent us a magazine from their rental gun of the same model to see if that would fix the problem, but it didn't. He suggested that we keep trying to shoot it because many firearms have a break in period. He then came into the range to see the exact problem. He looked at the spent ammo and showed us that the firing pin wasn't striking hard enough. We did NOT buy the gun there, but he really went out of his way to help us with our problem. He opened up the gun and showed us that the hammer pin was too short and had slid out of place. He put it back in place and the gun was firing perfectly until it slipped again. He gave us instructions on how to contact the manufacturer to get a replacement part. We are now members of the range, $250 per person for unlimited range access plus a free target per visit and 5 guest passes is a fantastic deal if you're frequent shooters like us. This business has terrible customer service! I ordered several items with overnight shipping 2 months ago and still have not received my complete order. I called the store several times to cancel this order each time thinking my order was cancelled until another problem would arise. Their website is not updated with items that are out of stock. People I spoke to on the phone and through e-mail were very rude to me. I ordered these items overnight because I needed them as soon as possible. I will no longer use this company and will be contacting 5.11 to let them know about this online dealer. read more

My first time at a range, my friend came with for support. We got there 30 minutes before closing, shot one box of 50 rounds, used one lane and was still charged full price of $39. A break would have been appropriate considering we were in the lane for 20 minutes, and they didn't tell us how much ahead of time. read more

After many years of ownership of a revolver that was no longer suited to our age and capabilities, I shopped for a more appropriate home defense gun. Range master was extremely helpful and patient in guiding us to a proper fit. They have the soul of a teacher and were thorough, technical and carefully demonstrated with hands on the appropriate mesh of characteristics with our abilities and choices of trade-offs. I try to support local business whenever I can but I was extremely dissatisfied with the customer service at Range Master!! I purchased an item in April. I didn't use it and tried to return it ( with receipt) about 4 months later for store credit. The employee told me they have a 30 day return policy. I asked to speak with a manager. The employee returned a short while later telling me that the store owner said there wasn't anything that could be done! I can't believe they wouldn't give me store credit. They had nothing to lose. I was intending on purchasing additional items. Instead, I will never buy anything there again. They have lost a customer over a $25 purchase (ridiculous). I will make all my gun and equipment purchases online where my experience has been they will do whatever it takes to satisfy and keep their customers and are usually less expensive. read more

I've bought several guns at there old location, and one from the new location. The issue I have is that nobody knows anything about gun's. They couldnt tell hardly anything about the guns. To find answers they would look things up in books? Then they had to call the owner for answers? When I go to a gun store I expect the employees to at least know what I know, which isn't alot. Really there should be a gun expert there at all times! If I worked there I would try to know everything about every gun in the store, and about the other products you sell too! I have had wonderful experiences with the Range Master in SLO. I purchased one of my guns at this store. They were extremely friendly. They did not treat me different because I am a girl. I am experienced with different firearms and they treated me like I was, which was really nice for once. The staff is extremely friendly and will answer any questions you have. It is true that the range is pricey to shoot at. If you have your own firearms and ammo, its not bad for an inside range. Overall, great customer service. read more

Best in SLO County, by far! Yeah I know a lot of people knock them for their prices, which can be a tad on the high side. But you know what, NOBODY has the selection they do. I've been up and down this county to many shops. Nowhere comes close. The staff is great and very helpful. Very personable. I've never felt rushed. There can be a wait if you show up at the wrong time, but that's how it is at any shop in California worth a damn. Their range is perfect for my needs and is always clean and in good shape. .22LR shortage? Not at rangemaster. They have thousands upon thousands upon thousands of rounds every time I've gone in. The good stuff too. CCI Mini Mags. A bit marked up, but hey, it's there. Quit being so cheap. Their ammo selection is top tier. I have nothing bad to say about the place. Participated in a CCW course offered there and it could not have been a better experience. The instructor was professional, knowledgeable and "kept it real". The facility is well stocked with retail merchandise for sale as well as a great selection of rental guns for those looking to try a new piece prior to purchase, or just something different. The range is immaculate, top notch and modern (bring a jacket, the fresh air intake is a little chilly). I look forward to bringing the rest of my family there. My GF and i recently got the bronze membership as we are weekly shooters. Walking in the door to a huge smile from the door woman is wonderful. The staff is attentive regardless of the long and detailed sales/projects that any transactions demand from them. They are very happy to share their knowledge if we are buying or not. The outside is very clean with a 'safety first' double door which makes me feel great when entering with my shooting equipment. After entering, you see a well organized display of equipment to look around. Their bathrooms are very clean which is important for after shooting hand washing for me. read more

This is my first Yelp review. I've never felt the need to come on here and review a business, but this experience made me feel like it was necessary. I came in here to purchase a .22 rifle, and was instead met with terrible costumer service. There were a hand full of other costumers in there (some who obviously frequented Range Master often and felt they could be rude to whomever they pleased), but they were not busy. I walked around looking at their selection of .22's and was never asked if I needed help. I walked up to the desk where the employees were and was not helped. I don't know if it was because I am a women, or if they're just cocky jerks. I purchased a gun from Four Seasons, where they were extremely helpful and friendly, and surprisingly way cheaper then Range Masters. (On the items I purchased.) I do not plan to come to Range Masters again. I will stick to Four Seasons or stores online. read more

I have been doing business with this shop for the last five years. The service is usually decent, however since they have opened their new shop, their customer serivice has become horrible for the most part. The only time I receive adequate service is when I am dealing with the owner or his teenage son. There is one employee who appears to become angry when he is asked a question or asked to do something. He has a heavier build and has a military style hair style. I have noticed his poor customer service skills the last four times I have been in the store. The last couple times I came in, I saw him look over at me and then turn his head and ignore me. Both times, I had to take the initiative and ask him to help me. The last time I was in the store I asked him to show me a handgun located in one of the display cases. He handed me the gun in a rude manner and walked away. I asked him a few questions and he answered them in a rude tone. I understand that working in a gun store can probably be stressful, however you should still be polite to your customers, expecially when I spend several hundred dollars a year in the store. I have since discovered Atascadero Firearms and they have much better customer service and their prices are the same and sometimes cheaper. read more

I have been to this store many times and have had no prior dissatisfaction but when I had a pistol "allocated" by the store owner so that he could sell it to a friend the evening before I was to complete the DOJ paper work....that was the end. The clerk I dealt with knew that I was retired law enforcement and this store makes a lot of money on that profession. I was speechless and frankly the clerk was obviously embarrassed. The owner screwed me and just as bad..screwed his clerk who had put the gun aside for me with name and phone number. Does this tell you about the owner and the store?....I think so. read more

I have not actually shot here. I was going to the Goodwill store next door. I started to pull into a parking spot marked "Goodwill Parking". I was told by a guy wearing a Range Master shirt to park somewhere else. I asked why since it is a Goodwill parking space. He told me he was waiting for someone. We never actually got to shoot. The problem is they did not anticipate the crowd of people on "Black Friday" wanting to do something other that shop. We took the safety test and waited for about 45 minutes for the range to clear - there are only 5 or 6 shooting stations. Finally we were too hungry and crossed our name off the list. The problem seems to be that one lone young lady was doing all the work while the other staff sold guns, ammo and did other retail - but she also was processing paper work AND handling the range. The other thing I didn't care for was the orientation of the shop/range - there wasn't any apparent supervision of the range that could take place. They do make you pass the handgun safety test but is seems like there should be a rangemaster. One shooter complained of a misfire of his rental and one of the guys behind the counter who was selling guns said - I'll come take a look. Clean shop but PACKED with retail and police uniforms which seems to be their bread and butter. read more

After getting inside I stood there by the selection case while staff just looked up from theirs computers, stare at me then go back to what they were doing without saying a word. Today I went to Range Master hoping to find an AR lower I never really had a good experience there in the past but this time this "Rambo" guy I keep hearing about was very unpleasant tried to make me feel stupid. This company needs some serious management turn around. I was going to purchase an Ar, ruger 10/22, and a ruger LC9, within the next couple months but not just me but me and my friends that were with me and were ignored the whole time I had to say something simply put their a egotistical tiny-peckered punks that I never been treated so bad I would not repeat business go to 4 seasons or a-town firearms those guys know their shit! One good thing the lady at the front of the store when you walk in was just amazingly nice and actually treated us like customers, so thank you ma'am! To those individuals at that store I highly suggest you Juiced up boys scouts drop the bs and stop packing on your hip you work at a gun store and a nice little lady has to let you in. First time renting rifles at a range and we were kinda sketched out by all the reviews that said they were rude. To our surprise the guys there were really nice teaching us how to operate an AR-15. We had a couple of problems because we are noobs at shooting but the guys were understanding and patient with us which was great. It was kind of expensive to rent totally worth the fun. read more

rangemasters customer service is hit or miss they have some awesome guys who work there and they have some guys who are not so great I have a lot of tattoos and a lot of gun shops stereotype I haven't really got that vibe from rangemasters but like I was saying some of the guys that work there just have a bad attitude and don't seem like they want to help you. (Now to the good stuff) As for pricing I find it reasonable everyone always complains because "they can find it cheaper online" well there's no one to help you face to face online and you can't touch or shoot product online they have a business to run employees and rent to pay. I LOVE THEIR RANGE! The cleanest most modern indoor range in the county. I like that most guns they have for sale they have for rent and if you end up buying a gun at the end of test firing all they charge you for is the ammo you shot. Widest variety of firearms. And I love that I can tell my wife I'm just going to get a pair of pants for work and go drool on some guns. I've bought many many guns here and will continue doing business here. read more
