The game was held at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field which is where the Seton Hall University softball team plays...a very nice facility. As we left the house late (I had to drive from Newark all the way home to get her, then drive back to Newark...ugh), we didn't get a chance to eat so I was praying they had some kind of concession stand or food truck. When we finally got to the field we were SO happy to find Donny's Dogs. Donny's is apparently a pretty popular hot dog truck from the area and the dirty water dogs are supposed to be pretty good. My daughter and I each ordered two dogs-hers with just ketchup and I had one with mustard and ketchup and one with kraut and chili. Hard to beat the price for the plain dogs-three for $5. The plain dogs were very good, but I didn't care for the chili and kraut dog-had a funky flavor that I just didn't like. The rest of the stuff Donny's had for sale (candy, drinks, chips, etc) seemed like it was decently priced. And the end of the night we had some good hot dogs, got to watch a great game that my daughter's future high school team won, and had some good Daddy-Daughter time. The dogs were not snappy(like a good dirty water dog), nor were they grilled. Bland is the only way I can describe it, and kind of a mushy texture. The chili was an all beef(no bean) canned variety, possibly Hormel, again lacking flavor or any spice. Going to a hot dog truck, you expect to get at least an average hot dog. I have had better Chili dogs from 7-11 at less than half the price. The lack of ANY other patrons at the truck at a highly visible location just after noon should have been a red flag. I've driven by this food truck countless times and there's always been a line, but it's gotten even crazier since TikTok blew it up. I came early and still waited about 20-30 minutes before placing my order, but honestly, the wait didn't even feel that bad. The staff were incredibly friendly and made the wait in line a no sweat. While everyone was waiting, they handed out free fries with their homemade sauce, which was such a nice surprise! They also passed out bottles of cold water and even let parents with young kids order first. It's little gestures like these that really show they care about their customers and their community.
