Solid 4.5 stars! This was a beautiful golf course, winding in and around neighborhoods in the hills above Fairfield. Everything was in great condition. The greens could have used a little rolling, but nothing major. Speaking of the greens, everyone I told I was playing there said they were huge. They were HUGE and I'm not sure there was one flat, straight putt. The driving range was perfect for warming up, and picturesque. The practice green was big enough that you could find your own place, and rolled true to the actual greens; nothing worse than the two not matching! Tee-boxes, fairways and bunkers were all well-taken care of, and the routing of the course was fun. We didn't eat, but the food I saw looked tasty. Not a huge selection of beers, but enough that there was something for everyone. The staff were all super nice and friendly as well. This was about two hours from my house and my first time playing here, I would definitely go back! read more

This review might be biased, but we came on the day in August weather was in the mid 70s with a nice breeze blowing. Not that it helped my golf game, but it was such a pleasant experience that it felt like a five star review Nice freeways, challenging, but well kept greens and just challenging enough. Ordered a chicken Parm sandwich and wasn't expecting much but it was way better than most other courses. Surprise surprise, all around great experience. Only issue was the slow people in front of us , but that's not the course's fault and Marshall can only do so much. read more

This review is an update from my prior review: Course, for the most part, is in great shape. A little too much overwatering in some areas, where the fairways are soaked...which can lead to bad shots. The practice areas are fine. The driving range isn't the best, hitting up a hill on very worn mats isn't the best. Besides that, I love the course. My issue is with the pace of play here. Tee times go out every 9 minutes. We were backed up from the start. There was a lot of waiting around throughout the day, which isn't fun at all. The group in front of us didn't help. At one point, they decided to pull out their "grabbers" and pluck balls out of the water for 10 minutes before they putted on the green. I counted, one guy had 15 balls he pulled out of the pond. Meanwhile, we waited all that time and then some (because they hadn't putted out yet) to hit on the green. I don't care if it was slow play, the perspective was horrible. Don't be those guys that hold up play. Unfortunately I had to quit before I could finish 18. The round took too long and I had somewhere to be. We were already 5 hours in when I had to leave. I realize you're trying to maximize your profits, but if your customers aren't happy...then they may not return. Spread out those tee times!! It's a muni course and there are people of all levels out there. Nine minutes between groups isn't enough time. read more

So during the week days, great place to play. The course conditions are always really good. Greens are normally smooth and quick... BUT... and it's a huge BUT... the pace of play is abysmal. Absolutely abysmal. Nearly 6 hours on a Saturday afternoon. And NO beverage cart girl at all on a near 100* day, and no Marshall either. A 6 hour round at this course is brutal. Absolutely unnecessary. And the course sends a survey request and they don't do anything about it. Bye bye RS! At least on the weekends.. you got me once. Not ever again. read more

Great course. Absolutely beautiful. But the Marshalls will harass you to the point you wanna just leave. I was told I need to move on to the next tee when the group in front of me was 100 yards from the tee and I was just waiting for them to clear. They told me I need to park my cart on the fairway so the group behind me knows I'm on the fairway when I'm 250 yards from the tee box. Then the Marshall comes up to me on the last hole telling me there's people who paid good money to play, like I didn't pay, and they're trying to track their score. When my group wasn't holding anyone up and we finished in less than 4 hours when they predicted the average play time is 4.5 hours. So I dunno if the Marshalls were on a power trip or they just wanted to go home because we were playing the twilight tee off at 3. But they need to relax and not follow groups for half their game. read more

I gave it a 2 because of people running the course. The golf course itself is fantastic. The 2 marshals that were at the course keep pushing our group to go faster so we can keep up with the 3some in front of us but i look at my time we're not behind. The marshals told us we're behind 20 min so we have to skip 1 hole in the back. At the turn i check my watch it only took us 2hours and 17min so the marshal was at the 9th hole still telling us we're behind and keep up with the other group. How can you be so behind if we're at the turn in 2hrs17min? 2min behind?Golf courses are 4and1/2 hrs to play the whole 18 holes. We finished in 4hrs and 20min. Rude people!! read more

I play here every Friday, today was Veterans Day and they charged us for a holiday, and I am ok with but I asked them what do veterans get and the guy at the counter said no discounts. I asked him more and he brought up Christmas and said should people get discounts. I am not a veteran never been that brave but if you are going to charge more for Veterans Day then the great veterans should get a discount. I played here this morning the back nine. The course is always good, no complaints there. The problem is with the restaurant they use to offer breakfast after the 9 hole round they sold us the coupon for the breakfast buf when we went to get the breakfast they denied it and just gave us a refund. I know it's under new ownership, and it's off to a horrible start they had no breakfast menu. I don't blame the employees for this. it's the new ownership. read more

I love this golf course. even in the rainy season, it drains so well there is virtually no mud or puddles. beautiful layout. pretty wide open, greens are the trickiest part, lots of movement and some are huge. a few over water carries. plays like a high-end resort course. staff is always pleasant and friendly, including the bar/restaurant. one of my favorite course east of the immediate bay area read more

Played here on Thanksgiving weekend around 10am on Saturday. Perfect weather that day. First time playing here in 20 years. My only memory of this course were the huge, undulating greens and a long carry over water in the back nine. Went to check in the proshop and the folks there were quick and attentive, cordial and helpful. Went to the range where there were a handful of folks practicing including a group of junior golfers. Love to see kids playing this game. Got a large bucket of balls but it was too much for me so I gave it to a little kid with his dad. Went over to the practice green then things got interesting. Not a flat spot on that ginormous green. Couldn't stop the balls anywhere near some of the holes. I asked a group of regulars if the greens on the course played this fast. They reassured me that the practice green was nothing like the actual greens. Thank God. We teed off and right away had to wait on the group in front. Well it was a holiday weekend and I didn't expect to play in under four hours so I just enjoyed the day and soaked up my surroundings. We ran into the Marshall on the second tee box. He said there were a couple groups ahead that were starting to fall back but he gave them a warning. He was very personable and wished us well. The rest of the day was near perfect. Beverage cart came around at least three times, we finished our round in exactly five hours and I shot an 81 while missing three short putts. Greens are definitely challenging. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully play here again soon. read more

rancho solano has really gone down hill since the new ownership has taken hold. Letting people go during maternity leave, suspending workers after false accusations with no investigations, lead Cook can't even cook a frozen burger patty. Such a shame. Rancho Solano has a beautiful country-club-like setting. The layout with hilly terrain and huge links-style undulated greens add unique character to the golf course. Scenic lakes, elevated tees and well placed bunkers provide interesting features that contribute to the excitement of playing this course. 6,688 yards from the blue tees with a 132 slope is very challenging. From the white tees it's 6,269 years with a 126 slope. Hole #3, 384 yards, Par 4 is the most challenging hole along with another Par 4, hole #11, 429 yards. The greens are huge so even if you may feel good being on the green in regulation, putting from 80 feet or more is tough. The good feeling goes away quickly when you end up three putting and you find yourself with a bogey. Rancho Solano and Paradise Valley are the best golf courses in this area. Rounds at Solano generally take around four hours on a weekday. read more

If you haven't played Rancho Solano, what are you waiting for? It's my favorite course, anywhere and I've played everywhere. Wide open fairways and huge rolling greens, making a special challenge for those seeking challenges. Rancho can be humbling, don't go expecting to beat this course, without taking some punches yourself. Fun fun fun. The views are majestic, and the playing conditions are usually top notch. The course is flanked by lovely homes, with welcoming residents. I was asked to join a golf club by a very friendly woman. That was nice. The staff are attentive and efficient. The starter Jeff, was the nicest and most personable host to set us off. We had two groups of avid golfers with great expectations and Rancho didn't disappoint! One golfer in our group hit a Hole In One! Near by golfers who heard the hoopla, actually celebrated with us. It was a sight to see. There was a strange interaction when space and timing merged our two groups. As anyone experienced with the pace of play...and no one is waiting, why not a fivesome? Well, Rancho doesn't do that, so we were asked by David, the Marshall to split up again. Fine. Done. But why "Marshall" just us, after you told us? I mean it was obvious and very distracting to follow us like we were trespassing or not abiding. After being a little miffed about the presumed disrespect, I wrote it off as a misunderstanding. David was just doing his job, I suppose, even if it sounded condescending. The rules are the rules. I just wish we could've been given the benefit of the doubt. We're golfers, we love the rules. All of them. But missing that hole in one was because someone was being over zealous under the circumstances. He apologized, we had a great dinner at the 19th hole, and alls well that ended well. Btw, Mr. T. Bowles, (I think that was your name) at the front desk, thank you. Your quick action for resolution and superior customer service, made all the difference in our experience. I appreciated all you did, and I appreciated David's apology too. No hard feelings at all. 4 Stars with room to grow, for my next tee time. read more

We played Rancho Solano on Father's Day 2017 and could not have been more happy with the experience and most of all the condition of the course. It was in excellent shape. The course plays 6658 from the tips and has plenty of elevation changes, hills, water and bunkers to keep you on your toes. It is a municipal course but has the feel and look of private course. Just wonderfully maintained. It was pretty darn hot on Father's Day so we had no issue with getting around the course in a timely manner. We did have a local added to our foursome who plays Rancho Solano frequently and advised that the place can bottle neck on weekends, so keep that in mind. Hole 10 was my favorite. It is 578 from the tee box which is elevated and has a pond to your right and trees and bunkers to your left, demanding an accurate driver. Depending on how far you can hit your drive, the intermediate golfer is going to have about 330-280 yards to the green which is covered by bunkers. Good stuff. Only drawback to this course is that I live over an hour away and won't be able to frequent as much as I should. People of Solano County you have a winner. read more

I usually play here whenever my golf club holds a tournament here. The first time I played here was probably about 4 years ago. Unfortunately I pulled something in my right shoulder and could not play after 7 holes. This time I completed all 18 holes and I was impressed by the course and the way it played. I enjoyed my time playing the course but the only issue I had (and so did my playing partners) was that the fairways were soaking wet from probably a lot of watering overnight. The reason I heard from the marshall was that the weather was going to be hot later in the afternoon. However by the time noon came by some parts of the fairway were still wet. The water affected how the ball reacted to the ground and quite a few times left the ball picking up mud. There were two points where the golf cart tires were slipping on the wet fairway which could have resulted in significant damage. As I understand the course uses recycled water but I felt they were just overdoing it. Bottom line I do like the course will definitely find an early tee time. read more

I love the customer service here! I felt so welcomed as soon as I stepped into check in. A gentleman was so welcoming and humorous. I also liked the Marshall because he wasn't rude or pushy like other places. He came around to remind us the time and suggested how many holes we should play before the sunset. I love this golf course!! It is a gorgeous course, it has some of the best fairways and greens from Vallejo to Auburn. I first started playing here right after they first opened, hen I didn't play here for about 20 years. The course has gotten better with age. Not for the sad news: I probably won't be playing here for a long time because they raised their green fees to an unreasonable amount. We used to book our Friday mornings on Golf Now for $42.00 which included a cart. The course now charge $77.00 green fees with a cart for these same days. That is ridiculous! To the management of both Rancho Solano and Paradise Valley, Thank you for ruining a good thing!! I am really heart broken and bummed. read more

Craig greeted us like old family had just arrived as he introduced to Jon (the marshall) and the rest of the crew. We immediately felt at home and welcomed. Not only is the course well kept, it's really about the customer service I see and feel in the pro shop. Alex, Karl and Craige are all top shelf. I don't feel out of place here and they welcome all people no matter your game or color. That means a lot to me. It's why I bring my kids here. It's about the love and respect for the game but it's about these guys respecting people as people. Shout outs to all these guys here. Pineapple I didn't forgot about you either. we've been coming here for 10 plus years. This place has gone to complete crap. The waitresses are slow I ordered two Mimosas and was told they'd be brought out after about 15 minutes and watching the waitress make and serve several others I went and asked for them again, oh she forgot. Big Surprise. Then she brought out two of probably the worst mimosas I've ever had in my life. One was basically a glass of OJ and the other tasted like the champagne(if you can even call it that had been open for a week) gross. Then we waited about 45 minutes for our food to come out. Finally it came. I ordered a cob salad I figured you can't really mess that up. Rancho has always had the best salads they used to make their own ranch. welp she brought it out and you guessed it. The worst salad I've probably ever had. no avocado, no blue cheese, no croutons even, and the ranch tasted like it came from a gas station Condiment pack. meanwhile I watched the waitress woof down an omelette nearby on her break covered in you guessed it avocado, weird. a rule of thumb in restaurants don't have your staff eating food your telling your guests your out of. Awkward. They were out of chicken wings and onion rings as well. we pretty much tried to eat what was edible on our plate because we were starving and we just paid the bill. Which was over $70 dollars I think we'll go elsewhere next time. What a disappointment. We miss the old staff, they made rancho an awesome place to visit. we used to come here twice a week but after this I don't think we'll be back at all. What a shame such a beautiful place gone to waste. read more

This speaks to the practice range only. Hubby & I were in Fairfield for the entire day. How to spend our time? Lets go to a golf driving range. We GPS'd it and drove to Rancho Solano after dropping our daughter off at the State Board office in Fairfield. Bad feng shui. The complex is part of the gated community development. The pro shop and golf course are behind a building. It seems you've got to either walk down the cart path or enter the building, take the stairs or elevator to get to the pro shop. Not very inviting. Back to the driving range - its cut up into the hill. So you're looking up the hill the entire time while hitting your practice balls. We left and drove over to another golf course. read more

Great layout, lots of fun and challenging, but very playable for all levels of play. Staff was friendly and accommodating, good food and beverage service. Beautiful course on a perfect day before the rain starts. The fairways were very forgiving where the ball continues to roll! Beautiful scenery and homes. The little lake isn't so deep that you can dig out your golf balls. The greens and bunkers are huge and wide. The bunkers had actual loose sand like at the beach - something I never find at the course. What a treat!! Thank you for a gorgeous day where I can wear a sleeveless shirt and shorts. read more

Played this course a couple of times now. Nice Course. It's not a long course and the greens are big with some undulations. It was a pretty hot day and they had plenty of water stations. We also came across a Marshall that was handing out cold towels to help deal with the heat. Good value compared to the other courses in the area and they seem to take good care of the course well. The bunkers were not bad except for the occasional one where players were too lazy to rake after themselves. read more
