The course is in great shape and the staff is as friendly and helpful as ever. Really enjoy playing the course...except for today. Pace of play is usually very good but today was the slowest it's been in quite awhile. One slooooow foursome. I thought the marshal/ambassador was going to talk to them but, if he did, it didn't help. He should have moved with them for a couple holes to ensure they picked up the pace. On the back nine, three groups were stacking up on one tee box waiting for the foursome to MOVE! Very frustrating and totally dampened our enjoyment today. read more

Attended a work function at this facility. The facilities are absolutely gorgeous and really top of the line. The view from our conference room is really spectacular and second to none. The only two negatives are that I am here for work and that I am not outside teeing up for a round of golf. The view is a torturous tease as I sit here listening to presentations all day long. Nice layout although it plays on the shorter side. Bunkers are good, a nice amount of water hazards coupled with the trees adds a more strategic approach. Combined with huge and well maintained greens make up for the short par 4's and 5's. Clubhouse is in need of a remodel but the staff was very nice. Pro shop was a disappointment. read more

As a first timer at this golf course, I must say that I am a fan for the following reasons: 1. The greens are humongous, so if your short game is off, there's a chance that you'll still hit a green in regulation. Unfortunately, you might 3 putt, but who cares? You hit a green in regulation. 2. The front nine is relatively easy, and this is a great confidence booster especially since the first 3 holes in the back nine are challenging. 3. The elevation changes and water hazards require finesse in your entire game, so be careful in using a driver even at the par 5's. 4. The par 3's were super long, and there's an unwritten rule to never use a driver on a par 3, but this course forces you too. Sad but true. And yes, I used my driver on the par 3s. 5. The golf course is in great condition. It's a public course but very well maintained. If you're in the Napa area and want to take a break from wine drinking and want to play a challenging golf course for a great value at peak weekend hours, then check this place out! read more

My new job leaves me with some weekdays off and my buddy is between jobs so....I've been playing alot of golf lately. About once a week for the last 2 months. There are plenty of courses in Sacramento, but this course during the weekday is definitely worth the 40 min drive from Sac. The greens and fairways are always in terrific shape. The greens are huge but the roll is fair & true. Alot of the course is built into sides of hills so there are plenty of chances to get into trouble quickly. I think the hardest hole is the par 4 #11 where you have to hit about 250 to get into a good position for your second shot that is over water. The slope from the white is 125 at 6229 yards. That's about middle in terms of difficult vs the other courses in the area. GPS is a great help. I would not walk this course, because of the elevation changes, but it can be done with the more fit & younger guys. I'm not sure if it only me, but it seems that there always a greens keeper nearby on the fairway or on the green. Maybe because we always play in the morning. I guess it's understandable since they keep the course well groomed. This is my favorite course in the Bay Area and the Sacramento area. I usually use golfnow.com to get the best rates. read more

I live in Rancho Solano and have visited the course's driving range numerous times (no play on the actual course). The course is huuuuge and is always well-maintained. The range was never full when I visited and is appropriately distanced from the club house so as to not be distracted by patrons entering and leaving play. It's always a relaxing time coming to Rancho Solano and I look forward to the next bucket on the range. read more

My family and I were in the area and decided we wanted to try a new course. We got a chance to play Rancho Salano this past weekend, and was impressed with the course. The greens and fairways are great shape. The greens were firm and with the pin placements were at time challenging to read. Although it was the start of the weekend was the start of the summer, the conditions were a little windy mixed with light rain, but overall nothing to complain too much about. Listed are some pro's and con's: Pro's: -Great, well maintained greens (fast) and fairways (wide & forgiving) -Challenging layout, lots hills and elevated greens. -Friendly staff -Good pace of play for a Sunday -Great deal on Golf now Con's -GPS yardages were off, at least for me, but then again I usually don't rely on GPS while playing Overall will definitely play this course again. Now I need to play Paradise Valley. read more

Really liked this place. I'm from SJ and it's the perfect middle spot to meet my golfing buddy from Sac. We went in March and the course was in perfect condition even though they had just punched the greens two weeks before. Greens rolled true. There was plenty of distance from the Blue's but not too punishing. You can spray drives on some holes and some required a more accurate tee off. Greens are huge, but the carts have GPS, so you know when you have to club up/down. We played a little competition and ended up tied on 18. It was about 5pm and nobody was on the first tee, so we asked the marshall if he minded if we played a playoff hole and he said go ahead, you aren't hurting anyone. My only complaint is the driving range. One of those short uphill, stick it in the corner type of ranges with about 10 stalls and mats only. Pretty hard to get any good practice in. But we didn't come to practice...we came to play and once you are on the course, it's a great time and great for the price $50 w/ cart on a weekend morning? Are you kidding, I wish I lived closer. read more

Yay! I'm a fan. We had a foursome go out here on Memorial Day... booked via Golfnow.com at a rate of $40 per person... which includes carts! What I liked: 1. Course was fun to play... in semi-residential setting. Almost all houses were not close enough for me to hit, but you can definitely see them. It was not terribly difficult, nor was it super easy. It was perfect for me. 2. GPS-enabled carts. This was my first time in one, and it's really neat. Gives you all the necessary distances (bunker, green, etc etc), but it also shows you the carts nearby you so that you don't hit into them on accident. 3. Putting green (practice) 4. Relatively cute cart girl. What I did not like: 1. The range balls... from med to large bucket, it goes from 50 to 100 balls (but only $2 difference). Wish there was something in between haha. 2. A little out of the way in Fairfield. Crossing two toll bridges = no fun. Nevertheless, 4.5 stars... round up to 5. read more

Went online to make a tee time and they had discounted rates for $39 per person. The site only allowed you to make a reservation for two or more. Called the pro shop explained I was a single golfer and asked for the discounted rate. They refused to honor the discount for a single player. Very bad business practice. My favorite course in all of Solano County. Many elevation changes, and several challenging (undulating) fairways. But wide enough that the average golfer should be able to hit the majority. As mentioned previously, the greens are very large, which makes noting the pin placement very important. The staff always is friendly and accommodating. A difficult, but not impossible course to walk, and I definitely would avoid walking it in the mid-summer. Also, the wind tends to come up in the afternoon, so morning tee-times are probably best if you don't like that particular challenge. The practice facilities aren't too great. Both driving range and practice green need some renovation/redesign. As for the course itself, maintenance has never seemed to be a problem, and I'll continue to be a regular here. read more

Just played today and I am a big fan of Rancho Solano. Each hole was memorable and used every club in my bag from the white tees (which is a good sign). Nice elevation changes throughout the course and with a steady breeze, it makes for a good time. Played with two guys wearing jeans and shirts with no collar so doubtful they are enforcing dress code obviously. Would definitely come back...very impressed. read more

We played this course yesterday with some friends. The course is nice but not friendly to new golfers. We had two beginners in the foursome, we were hit into twice by the group behind us. When we asked the Marshall to ask them not to hit into us his reply was that we were behind and needed to pick up the pace. This course has the GPS computers in the carts and they tell you if your golfing slow, it said we were 10 minutes behind. I don't know about anyone else but I don't think that's two bad with two beginners. He wasn't concerned about us maybe getting hit by a ball. The USGA wants to promote more people to play golf but how do you learn if the course don't want less talented players on the courses? I will not be back to this course. They only want Low Handicap players. read more

Another one of my favorite golf courses! Breathtaking scenery! Behind a nice gated community, I can't wait to play there again.

Others might argue the five star rating, especially considering how close this place is to Napa and San Francisco... but no one can argue how fun this course is to play. There's tons of elevation change, so many hills, and so many blind shots- unless you're averaging 300 yard from the tee, you'll get pretty close to hitting all of the clubs in your bag (and you'll be forced to work them all different directions too- left, right, high, low). The greens are always in good shape, as are the fair ways, and the views of the surrounding countryside are nice enough to make you forget your in Fairfield (exactly midway between SF and Sacto). I've played this course a number of times since high school, and it has absolutely retained its fun factor. There may be more prestigious courses in the area, but none more enjoyable. read more

The only reason I did not give it 5 1/2 stars is because of the lazy, stupid, brain-dead people who golf there. My favorite hole is number 17 it has a nice dog leg left down the hill that really allows you to "grip it and rip it". One minor complaint is a few of the cups were placed slightly uneven, this can cause putts to lip out easier. Reasonably priced $24 twilight golf including cart. Overall great time. read more

Great course. GPS in the cart. Great condition. Be warned, massive greens. Pay attention to front and back yardages depending on the pin placement. It could be a 2 club difference. You have to be sure you get a good tee shot on 10, as it is a good 520+ yards. I'd give it 5 stars if it were not for the driving range. Poor mats and awkward alignment (if you align with the stall, you hit into a hill on the left and not towards the flags). Also the putting green is severely sloped which makes it hard to get a feel for the greens out on the course. read more

This is a great public course! Always well maintained and scenic as it is set in the rolling hills between Fairfield and Gordon Valley. It's relatively short with large greens, but there are enough bunkers, doglegs and water hazards to challenge all who play. They also have a great staff in the pro shop and at the bar and grill. GPS in the golf carts is a nice touch. It's also great that they have refreshment carts on the go weekday and weekend (Trisha is the best-by far!) read more

Love this course, a little wet during winter but worth the money.

Excellent course and it's in great shape. However, some of the marshalls are assholes. Although our foursome was playing at the pace of play (12-15 minutes per hole) and following the course rules, this particular marshall felt it necessary to hover around us starting from the 2nd hole through the 7th hole oppose to move 2- 3 groups ahead to get them to speed up their pace of play. The staff management should confront these marshalls and remind them that many golf courses are hurting and do not need the bad press and loss of business because of whatever personal hang ups the marshall has towards certain individuals. Despite the quality of the course, I will not pla there again to be treated the way were treated. read more

I have been to this course several times now and I like it a lot. The course is well maintained and their GPS golf carts are helpful in setting up shots. Since this course is in Fairfield, it can get windy, but not as windy as some of the other courses I have played in the area. I took away a star because on the first few holes there is usually a marshal driving around making sure you keep pace. One time he gave us a hard time for not keeping pace, but it wasn't our fault as there was a group in front of us and we couldn't go faster. read more

I loved this golf course since it opened just play 3 days ago and I remember why the course was in great shape the green were great the service both in club house and restaurant were the best hats off to you guys now, the last time we played the course it took 5 hrs why I did not give a 5 rating we travel about an hour to play well this week it took 5 1/2 hours that is unacceptable on any course. We told the Marshal who seemed not to care but come on guys you have a fantastic course speed the play up. I have talked to other friend about the slow play why doesn't the Marshal move people up to a closer tee or pull the slow group or groups aside and let other groups go through. read more

Sometimes we make the treck out to Fairfiled to play the two wonderful courses here. Rancho Solano is the course that is nestled in the hills. Greens are very well kept and the fairways always green.
