I had never eaten here in the past during my visits to the area so decided to give it a try. The menu selection is great, prices good, friendly staff and food comes out quickly. I tried the half smothered burrito which was big enough for my lunch. Oh man, I hate to ding a small town business, but after our visit, I'm not really sure they will even care about a negative review. The only thing this place has going for it, is the view! Our first stop in our week long stay, had us super nervous for our choice of vacation spots. We arrived early evening Sunday and after the recommendation of Chappy's was closed(COVID), this was literally the only restaurant open otherwise. I should've known better, when I asked a local where to go and the answer was, "ummm, the bowling alley ain't too bad". There were 7 of us, so I always give the wait staff a break on that mark. Although, we were all exhausted from our long drive and fairly complacent this time around. Haha The prices make you feel like you really have a chance at a good meal, but that's a trick. A variety of different menu items were ordered and not a single thing was worth eating. I ordered fish and chips. Grease flavored yuck. Burgers. Frozen blah ness. Chicken wrap. Old tasting. Kids hot dog wasn't even warmed up. Coleslaw was hot. Fries were cold. We waited for our food to be delivered for an hour and that was even after asking the waitress, who seemed stressed over her two other tables, how much longer it would take. The topping came when they forgot my husband's burger and we waited an additional 15 minutes for his food. Most of us left him at the table to eat alone, while we took a walk behind the restaurant. One of us even had to ask for a fresh bun, since ours had mold on it. Our drinks were empty. Our plates were full. The waitress became non existent, never a good idea. The fellow patrons dining were super friendly and we enjoyed the extended visit with them, but I can make friends anywhere, I came to eat and we were left terribly unsatisfied. I wish this business luck in their ventures, but as an outsider, management needs to take a long look at how things are being ran and head back to the drawing board. Best advice to visitors, skip this restaurant, head across the street to the market and grill up your own food. I guarantee you'll beat this place, even if you only grilled spam. read more

We came here on a recommendation of one of the shop owners. She said most of town ate here and I must say the day we went it was pretty packed. I got a roast beef and green chile sandwich (can't remember the name) and fries. It was all good. They were a little on the slow side, but they had a huge group in the back room. I will admit, the best fish and chips I've ever had the privilege of consuming was every single fish and chips dish I scarfed in Scotland. In Colorado, though I probably don't know the BEST of the best, I've ordered and eaten my fair share of fish and chips. A popular fish and chips hot spot is GB Fish and Chips. Their baskets tasted alright, with a great, light, crisp batter but every type fried fish tasted the same. Enter the most unassuming place to order the popular British plate - Rancher's Roost Cafe at the bowling alley in Westcliffe, CO. The view alone could distract anyone from any mediocre dish, but for my crowd, the view embellished the delicious dinners! A couple of double cheeseburgers, a Philly cheesesteak, and another couple fish and chips plates, all the meals were finished to the plate bottoms, plates nearly licked clean. The fish and chips only lacked the vinegar with which I like drizzling on mine, but it wasn't missing, really. The batter was so flavorful and light, it only surrounded the fish meat, and didn't smother it. The house-made chips were so flavorful, and I wish bottomless. There was no grease flavored yuck in any position at our table. The waitstaff was attentive, the drinks promptly filled, and the view - beyond any restaurant I've been in! I highly recommend this place whether you're hungry during your bowling games or are just plain hungry during whatever! We had never been here before, and after hearing it was good, we thought we'd give it a try. Located inside a bowling alley, we would have guessed it'd be busier for a Sunday. We sat at the counter, admiring the checkered floor. That sure sets the expectation! A yummy soda-fountain style! We waited and waited, of course we needed a menu. Drinks were not offered. Finally got menus and ordered drinks. We watched as the two girls busied themselves. I'm sure it was idle work. Trying to get their attention, we waited to order. We watched and waited more. No polite banter about the weather, visiting, do we bowl... nothing. I thought, hey, can the other gal take care of us. Nope. Okay, we thought, maybe we picked the wrong day, they were new.... something. Short staffed maybe? Nah, not that busy for a Sunday lunch. More people trickled in to eat and to bowl. Heavens, what takes so long? We saw other orders get delivered, and I had hoped she would notice us. Waiting and waiting......waiting and waiting. just to place orders. I walked around looking at 4H photos - oh, look how old. Do they not sponsor the local kids anymore? Sheeeesh. A lady that carried the impression of being the owner had her dog in her arms... and walked into the back where the kitchen was. Appalled, I was relieved she didn't stay long. Then, I observed in horror as she berated the other girl working there. Nothing had been dropped or broken - you can always hear that. No idea of a name but had a high forehead with glasses. Poor girl. She looked like she wanted to cry or just escape. No wonder they're short staffed. Was this other girl in charge? Geez, I hope not. I munched on fries and my chicken sandwich - meh, not worth the price - hubby said his Reuban was incredibly average. Normally we talk about everything, but he was silent. A clear indicator that his lunch didn't meet his expectations either. I knew at that moment what that meant. A kerfuffle caught my attention. Some shipping guys came in to deliver something - couldn't quite make out what it was. This gal - suspecting definitely in charge - admonished the driver for being early. Really, in front of customers? The music did nothing to drown out the tone of her voice. I watched her face - oooohhhhhh, not a nice person either. Never once did she drop by to check to see if our lunch was okay. Nope, no more drinks either. Growing ill over the very obvious *un*welcome feeling, I neglected to finish my sandwich. The check was not delivered - we had to ask the 'frightened' girl for it. I waited and waited, just to pay our tab - while she took two phone calls. I just couldn't see giving the normal tip either. As I sit here now pondering, searching for anything good... well, there wasn't anything good about it. I hope the owners read this and relieve Kelly G of all duties. Few months overdue, but I didn't know the name of the place until now! Stopped by this joint after a wedding, and my family was starving. I think there were only a handful of places open, and this looked to be the best option. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the food because honestly, we were just hoping to not starve before the wedding reception. Our burgers and chicken were juicy and tender, and our fries were perfectly crispy. If I ever find my way back to Westcliffe, I'll be makeing another stop at Rancher's Roost Cafe! read more

Once again, another cafe in the Valley which doesn't ever seem to have enough waitstaff. I don't ask for much but at least acknowledge that I'm there and just tell me you'll be there in a minute if you're busy. The kitchen is small so it they fill up, it's going to take awhile to get your food. The food is ok. I'd skip the taco salad unless you like black olives and raw onions. Saturday 2/20/21 Day trip to Westcliffe, Colorado to take in the scenery and have lunch. Visited 2 years ago with out of state siblings and lunched at Rancher's Roost located in the very nice Bowling/Recreation center. The views are wonderful from the cute dining room but the service was very bad. The waitress obviously not in a good mood. Decided to try again for lunch and so glad we did. We had multiple wait staff and everyone one of them were efficient, very courteous and the food, excellent. So glad we gambled on coming back. Thank you. read more

My family went here for lunch while passing through, it was a wonderful experience. My husband's burger looked completely homemade (minus the bun), my grilled cheese was really good, as was the tomato basil soup. My kids also had the grilled cheese which they also liked. We checked in for breakfast at 1015am, at 1105 no breakfast until we asked. Still took them awhile and when they did, food was cold. Husband still didnt get his food because they screwed it up. Great food, but possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. Though the place was not very busy, we were practically ignored most of the time we were there. It took over 10 minutes to get menus and drinks, we went long periods of time waiting for refills with empty glasses, and we didn't get our food until an hour and 10 minutes after we arrived. As someone who depends on Yelp reviews, any time there's one terrible review only I'm usually open to trying it. Sure enough, this place was pretty good. Cute 50's diner decor with a breakfast bar, all the standards on the breakfast menu and just what we were looking for. Husband loved the breakfast burrito, kid loved his egg, bacon and cheese croissant, teenagers had pancakes. I had eggs and sausage. I took off a star because it was about 50 degrees in there in August but after getting warmer clothes from the car we were fine. Also the food was a bit 'pre-prepared' if you know what I mean, like those McDonalds like sausage patties and hash browns that are like really short French fries. We are so happy we decided to have a late breakfast at Rancher's Roost Cafe. The food we had was delicious. The quantity was plentiful. The service we enjoyed from Rebecca was very conscientious. The establishment is very clean and contemporary. The sizable booths along the windows, looking at the beautiful Sange de Cristo Mountains, are to be coveted with each visit.We look forward to our next visit! read more
