I visited Westcliffe this weekend and was fortunate to have caught this place before they closed on a Saturday. They close at 2:00 pm on Saturdays so plan accordingly if you want to visit this place on a weekend. Also, they're closed on Sundays! I love how this bakery is owned and run by Mennonites. The young lady who waited on me was very polite. One more thing, they're cash or check only! When I realized they're cash only, the young lady asked if she wanted me to hold the pastry I ordered while I got cash at an ATM. If you don't have cash handy, there is an ATM down the street at a grocery store. It's a Wells Fargo ATM. When I arrived back at the bakery, my pastry was waiting for me, all nicely folded up in a bag. It was well after 2:00 pm so I felt that it was thoughtful of her to keep the business open to complete my order. My original order was a raspberry cheese danish. I also ended up ordering a chocolate peanut brownie. I was also "eyeballing" a tray of their cinnamon rolls. I left after purchasing my two pastries and remembered that they're closed on Sundays so I approached the business again to see if I could order a cinnamon roll to go. The young lady was closing up the business for the day when I approached. I asked if she would mind if I purchased a cinnamon roll to go. She obliged without hesitation. Again, this was so thoughtful and such great customer service. I ate my raspberry cheese danish immediately and was very impressed. I later ate some of my cinnamon roll later then finished the rest in Sunday morning. I also devoured the peanut butter brownie on Sunday morning. What impressed me the most about their pastries is that they're not loaded with too much sugar. I find that many bakeries and grocery store bakeries overload their pastries with too much sugar. They nailed it with the right amount of sugar here. The cinnamon roll was huge. It's probably enough for two people. It's also only under three dollars which is impressive as well. When I return to Westcliffe in a few weeks I will definitely return here. I highly recommend this bakery to support local and for great quality pastries for very reasonable prices. Lastly, they sell various breads and jams. I believe another Yelper wrote that they sell breakfast sandwiches. I will order up when I return again. Hope you enjoy as much as I did! read more

We had heard from locals, this was a must try. Our only problem was we couldn't find it till mid-week. Bummer! This could've easily made it on a daily stop otherwise. After buying more than I'd like to admit, I was ready to drive back into town and paint their little sign a bolder color and splash it with glitter! Haha This is one of those places that is a hidden gem. Walk in the door and the smells hit you all at once and your mouth starts to water. Take your first bite and it still doesn't disappoint. Days later, cut into the few day old bread, smear with some butter and you'd still be thanking your lucky stars. I'm ready to make the 9hr drive back just for the Apple Fritters alone. read more

Sugar and Spice has been a delightful part of our trip. The baked goods are made fresh with real ingredients. We've stopped in twice for treats and the nice selection of jams, etc. The owner, Miss Naomi, is lovely and is a great ambassador for Westcliffe. read more

Stopped by this small bakery while saying nearby for a sweet breakfast fix. It was hard to choose what items to get because the bakery case all looked amazing, but I ended up choosing their cherry-cream cheese danish. We also took some of their cookies to go to enjoy later on the trip. All items were clearly homemade fresh and served with a smile! They prefer cash/check, but can take credit card for an additional fee. read more

Very cute little bakery in West Cliffe. We stopped in here for some bakery goods and were so impressed with the quality and taste that we are sad we didn't buy more before we left this quaint town. The ladies that helped us were extremely sweet. Our fave was the toffee bar:) read more

This bakery is in a remote location, but it does not get better than this! I want to be clear-- this place is AWESOME. Everything we had was delicious. Whether you are looking for a warm breakfast, desserts for the night, pastries for the week, candy, whatever. You're just not going to go wrong here, that's for sure. Worth the 45 minute drive here, especially when you add in the cute little retail shops in the surrounding "town". I especially enjoyed their breakfast items (smoked ham & egg on biscuit sandwich, stuffed croissant, and quiche), as well as the buckeyes (Ohio's state candy, peanut butter enveloped by chocolate). These buckeyes were by far the best I've ever tasted, sorry Ohioans. I would've bought significantly more had I tasted them in the bakery and not after we'd already left. They make the peanut butter with their homemade marshmallow creme or fluff. It's fantastic. Perfect buckeye, makes a great gift. My husband went gaga over the iced brown sugar or brown butter cookies that my sister bought. My sister and BIL pre-ordered a mixed berry pie from there (apparently, they run out of the popular pies), saying we HAD TO try it cuz it's the best ever. It was indeed delicious, and for those who like berries but not seeds (ahem, hubby), there were very few seeds in it, and it was almost like a berry gelatin filling in texture, but the flavor was mouth watering-ly delicious, with a perfect crust. This is now a destination spot for each time I visit my sister. I literally salivate over the thought of that smoked ham & egg biscuit: fluffy, smokey, heavenly. I found it quite unexpected. I wanted to eat the whole thing, but it was my husband's so that might have been rude. Hmph. ;) This is a Mennonite bakery and the lady helping us was super patient and friendly. And we bought a lot, so that's a win-win. I think they are CASH ONLY, so be prepared for that, but prices are also extremely reasonable. They serve coffee that's good, strong and will put hair on your chest, but nothing fancy- although I did see chai and cappuccino mixes for sale, I believe. There was a table with chairs and a bar window inside. On a nice day you can sit outside and enjoy your goodies at their picnic table, which is what we did. Oh, and there's a nondescript day-old section of items if you look for it. I don't know why you might find yourself in this area, unless you live here or are simply passing through, but if you do find yourself nearby (which is relative in southern CO), do yourself a favor and stop to savor the flavors. read more

I enjoyed a sandwich and coffee there on two separate occasions both times the sandwich was excellent and the coffee was just what I ordered. I got ice cream there on my second visit and the ice cream was excellent. The restaurant/coffee shop accommodated all of the Covid rules and I felt safe dining in. read more

This place is golden. Cinnamon rolls are a MUST! The gal baking and helping us out was cool and kind and attentive. We bought lots - cinnamon rolls (you must try these, plain amazing), cranberry orange muffins (really nicely baked, crispy tops - and no I'm not talking about muffin tops you weirdos), a lemon bar (pretty darn good, not too sweet), and a mixed berry pie (a little underwhelming, filling average, crust pretty good though). This place is AMAZING!!!!!! My husband and I came down to Westcliffe for our anniversary. We wanted some breakfast, so we stopped by here on our way out of town. We both got a slice of the quiche, he got an apple fritter, and I got a strawberry's and cream danish. I have never had a danish taste so goo before. My husband absolutely loved his apple fritter. We also took home a jar of the apple butter. I wish we would have bought more than one jar now. That stuff was DELICIOUS. I would make a special trip down from Denver just to come back to this bakery again. Highly recommend. On a side note, they only accept cash or checks, so no debit or credit cards or high tech pay with your phone things. read more

Everything we ordered was fresh and still warm to the touch. We had a cranberry orange muffin that was flavorful and had that homemade taste. My husband ordered the peanut butter brownie which was huge! We will be back to try the pies and the fresh bread. The women are very pleasant and helpful. Donut and coffee, wonderfully efficient lady behind the counter, and locals friendly enough to give you a suggestion on what to order. Their donuts are so light and fluffy, and the coffee is good and strong with your choice of milk or cream. Adding photo of view from seating area outside. Excellent small bakery on the edge of town, a doable walk from the center of Westcliffe. Wide variety of scrumptious choices. Service is courteous, knowledgable, and quick. There were some small hot breakfast choices outside of baked choices that looked good, but I did not try myself. This place is easy to miss, as I passed by three times before finding it. Being run by Mennonites makes this intriguing to be from a cultural perspective as well. The quality of service and food makes his a remarkable place in Westcliffe. read more

Buyer Beware!! Everyone is encouraging you to shop small, local businesses. We always try and do this, shop the local community. Purchasing jelly at Sugar and Spice Mountain Bakery was no different. This particular purchase was a blackberry raspberry jelly/jam/preserves, so we knew there would be seeds. We were disappointed to open it up and find that it was all seeds! Within 15 minutes (we were just across the street) we took it back only to be told they would not exchange it because it had been opened!!! They would only credit us $1.50 on a smaller jar of peach jelly. We left the jar we purchased for $6.50 as it was inedible and did purchase a small jar for $3 as toast was waiting. Very sad when a small business does not stand behind their product and prays on the tourist trade, figuring a one and done. We are not tourist but locals from a neighboring town and will let everyone know that this small idyllic looking bakery is everything but! Very disappointed! read more

This place smells like heaven and all of the homemade treats we tried were delicious! The breakfast burrito was tasty and the pumpkin bar was incredible. We went back in to buy cookies and an apple fritter for later. The staff was very friendly. I highly recommend stopping in when you're in town! This place is the absolute best for baked goods! I was in yesterday and purchased an array of treats for my family so we could sample everything together. I absolutley LOVED their lemon bars and apple strudel bars! We are going back for more today to take home with us.
