It started off with the waitress being obviously overwhelmed albeit nice. She said they didn't have plates for the bread. Which, was fine for bread. We assumed she would bring some when we got less easy to eat with fingers food. But nope. We ate off of napkins for all of our appetizers. She also didn't bring waters for the people with alcohol and wasn't around enough to even ask. The appetizers weren't anything to write home about either. For my main entree, I got pasta with steak but asked for spinach also. When the food came, the kitchen had obviously forgotten and just threw a handful of raw spinach on top. I like raw spinach so I thought it was tacky but glad to at least have spinach. The spinach tasted TERRIBLE! At first I thought it was the pasta until I had a bite without spinach. I then picked all the spinach out. The pasta in general wasn't very great anyways. Very bland. And there was no Parmesan cheese anywhere to add to it. And again, a waitress that was so absent, we were completely done by the time we saw her again so didn't even bother asking. There are only 2 redeeming qualities of this place and the only reason it got 3 stars instead of 1. 1. The garlic they serve with the bread is insanely delicious. It was leaps and bounds better than anything else we got that night. 2. They are trying to do their part for snap benefits being on hold and feeding kids for free right now. I think that is pretty admirable of a company so that makes me like them even if I'm not a fan of their food.

It was like they were waiting for us--with cold drinks, fried things, and the promise of dry chairs. Beer selection? Generous. Beautiful. A full beer menu that made us feel seen. I got a shandy that tasted like summer vacation in a glass. Light, citrusy, and just what my inner "fun mom" needed after braving rapids and teenage attitudes. The kids were equally pumped about their soft drinks (probably because no one made them share or filter river water through a life straw). They were just happy. And quiet. Which is the dream. Now. Let's talk about the fried pickles. These weren't your average sad little slices. Oh no. These were spears. Like crunchy, salty dill torpedoes of happiness. We housed them like we hadn't eaten since breakfast. No regrets. Add in the cheese curds -- crispy, melty, glorious -- and you've got a fried food symphony worthy of applause (and maybe a Tums, but worth it). Service was fast, friendly, and unfazed by our damp, sunburned chaos. Toast: You can't mess up toast, but it came with a tiny thing of grape jelly (barf) Chicken Fried Steak: Rather than give you a full steak like you would expect, they chopped it up into very tiny bits. I didn't count, but felt like I had less than 10 tiny bites of steak. What I got tasted okay I guess. Potatoes: About half the potatoes were very hard and undercooked. Some of the pieces were okay but after eating a few of the harder ones I just gave up on them. Gravy: The gravy was the best part of the skillet, honestly. Rich in flavor and actually warm.
