It's a beautiful hike. A short, easy , out n in trail but the waterfall at the end is well worth it. The water was a runoff, water pounding the rocks , river was raging. I hate when people don't pick up after their dogs though. Too many dog poop on the trail , it's disgusting. A pit toilet at the parking lot. You have to drive a two mild of dirt road with lots of potholes to get to the parking lot. Don't miss the sign at the trailhead when you are driving there from Fresno , it's easy to miss.

Shorter hike from Sample Meadows which is why we picked this route when we carried the Red Dragon ( kayak ) with us cuz it's hella heavy. But the road to get to Sample Meadows is winding as heck , unpaved so be ready to get your vehicles dusty and dirty ( narrow winding roads at the edge of the cliff sometimes). Also , the reason why we were wearing our bright yellow safety vests is because it was in middle of the hunting seasons lol. Very safe .. yea lol. So obviously there's no road access to the lakes therefore we carried the kayak with us but this was the kind that you can assemble so we each carried some parts in our packs . Was heavier than our usual backpacks but wasn't too bad. There were five of us. From Huntington Lake is about 8 mile round trip hike not real steep so I'd say moderate. You get to the Lower lake first and it's only about 1/4 mile to Upper , it's definitely worth it to go to Upper because it's prettier. My friend Mike jumped into the Upper and went swimming but it was summer time. Some people were fishing. There were reminiscent of campfire on boulders around the lake. I think I've done this hike about four times , I must really like this place.

Trail will take you to 6 different lakes (Mack, Marsh, Heart, Box, Long and Gem Lakes). With an optional detour to a 7th lake called Chickenfoot Lake (located after Long Lake). Trail was mostly a rocky incline towards Gem Lakes. There were some fall colors on the shrubs but not on the trees of this trail. Beware of altitude sickness! The worse symptom for us this time was shortness of breath. Decent sized parking area at the trailhead. However, it was almost full at sunrise. Restrooms are available within a short walk from the start of the trail. The drive towards the parking lot gets narrow and harder to fit two cars. Short video of the hike for those interested! https://youtu.be/lHZW-RvsUXk

LITTLE LAKES VALLEY TRAIL -…read more It's a very scenic and fun hike. If you're able, make sure you visit most of the lakes ( I think there are seven total). Reaching Long Lake (5th lake) is a good turnaround point for most people. Be prepared to get your feet wet as several portions of the trail were over a stream. TIPS: This trail is not ideal for those who have mobility issues. A lot of rocks, steps, gravel, and in some cases water and snow. Get to the parking lot by 8:30. The lot will fill up fast, and you'll have to drive down the road to find parking. There's a bathroom in the parking lot.

I started at the trailhead near Corlieu Falls, went north towards Red Rock Falls. It was a beautiful hike with some varied terrain going slightly uphill for parts of it. The fall foliage was beautiful, and it was nice to hear the running water all along the way. There is occasional highway noise since this runs parallel to the main road, but I didn't mind it. Went at 730a and didn't see another person for about two hours. Red Rock Falls was peaceful and beautiful. I crossed the stream a bit clumsily and ended up with wet feet, but it was worth it for the photos. I made my way back. Corlieu Falls had a good amount of debris around it, including part of a bridge. Round trip was less than 4 miles, and I got back in time for brunch.

Unfortunately, we had two small kids with us in tow so we didn't make it too far on the trail but I hear there are some nice waterfalls as a visual treat if you finish the trail. The trail itself had some slopes and elevations but nothing too crazy. There isn't a lot of parking available in the designated lot - we were lucky to grab a spot as someone was leaving right when we pulled up, otherwise I don't know where one would park to easily get to the trail head.

You will park at a designated parking lot. The lot says you have to pay $10. There is an envelope and you write your license place number and name on it. It says to drop thr payment at a local store. I don't know if they check if you have paid or not. The trail head is not far from the parking lot. It will be to the left of you if you are facing away from the road. The trail is beautiful you start off along the river. You will hike along the trail for a short while then it dead ends and opens up to the road. You will cross the road and there is a sign that says trail, follow that trail. There is somewhat of a fork go to the left, you will cross a wooden "foot bridge". There is also a sign telling you to be careful on the slippery rocks. Then you follow the trail, it is easy to miss the turn off where the trail continues and goes up the mountain. At a point it goes up to the right and there will be another sign that says "trail". We missed it, and could not figure out where to go. Because the trail continues a long the river but then dead ends. We back tracked and realized there is another trail where we were supposed to turn and go up the mountain. It gets steep after you go up, but you get amazing views. It's worth the climb. This trail eventually dips back down and you are along the river again and get river access again.

I'd say this hike was medium to difficult, but we were able to get over rocks, stumps, and loose gravel with sneakers. The wind brushing again the trees and birds chirping was just magical.
