Been an awful year +dealing with this contractor and his lies and excuses. I gave him over a year to make things right with us but he has made no effort to return any of our money we asked for back in December 2022. It makes me ill. Here is a short story of the year+ I have wasted trying to regain our deposit back from Mr Cox.  I have been in contact with the local police, Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau.  ALL of which have done NOTHING-just letters.  We gave him a check for a large sum to procure the hardwood.  It's been a year + no floors and no deposit returned.  He told the Local Officer our money was spent and didn't have money to return to us.  He keeps telling me he will return it , but words without actions are meaningless.  And unfortunately this is someone more than 1 Neighbor suggested.  You just never know who you are going to hire for a project.  If this has happened to your family please reach out to the Attorney General's office about this matter.  Power in numbers.  I'm aware from 1 other reviewer he has done this before.   In November he told us the Brazilian Cherry for our floor would be delivered soon and the installation will begin.   On December 5 he claimed the distributor would not have the wood until December 16, and stated he could request a refund from the distributor if that is too late   On December 22 he said he had to leave the country for a situation with his family.  He indicated he could cancel the order and request a refund.   On December 28 he stated the wood order would take another 2 weeks to arrive, at which point we requested to cancel the project for a refund.   Late February we reported the incident to local police, who contacted Mr. Cox.  At this point we were informed that Mr. Cox did not order the wood and did not have the funds to pay us back.   Since then he has only re-iterated claims that he intended to pay us back when his business picks up again. Lawyer's response is just another deadbeat contractor.

We needed framing, sheetrock, electrical, trim and closets built. Joe was way more responsive than all other contractors and was very reasonable with costs. The price was exactly what he quoted us. (Another contractor was supposed to start before we found Joe and completely ghosted us around the start date.) Lou was the main guy who was here several days and he was great. We felt totally comfortable with him in our home. Our 4 year old son kept asking where Lou was after the project was completed. Lou worked around us when it came to hours that worked best for our family. Our kids love their bedrooms. And our 4 year old son finally sleeps in his own bed. We will be calling Joe when we are ready to remodel our kitchen and bathrooms.

DISASTER. Turn and run. We hired Joe for a large 203K project. We had problems from the very…read morebeginning: he was slow to start, kept changing his mind about the game plan, complained about the fact that he could get no money up front--terms of the 203K that he had of course agreed to--and pressured us to give him significant up-front money to "help him start". He instructed me in June of 2024 to rush to buy materials for a small bathroom that was still mostly unfinished in April of 2025; that kind of thing happened multiple times. His workers were inadequately supervised, and he was difficult to reach, often saying things like I'm at a kid's soccer game, out to dinner with my daughter, etc. The way that 203K's work is that HUD inspectors come out at regular intervals to make sure that adequate work has been done to make a draw from the total budget. Joe did a bunch of stuff merely to look busy to justify the first draw, in August: a slap-dash exterior paint job over crumbling paint that made a mess and did not hold, for instance. Between the first and the second draw, there was slow but meaningful progress--but by then we were 5 months into a job that we were told would take 4-6 months, and nowhere near done. During much of that 3-month interval he had just one guy working on our huge project, an electrician. After the second draw, in late November, he basically just stopped working on the house. We were making double housing payments the whole time, of course, so we panicked. We were almost out of money. After numerous calls and messages failed to get him to pick up the pace, at the urging of our lender, we scheduled a third draw, 3 months after the second one. At that draw, the HUD inspector certified that no work had been done, so no funds would be paid out. That's when we finally worked up the nerve to fire him. It was terrifying, because our lender told us that we would have trouble getting anyone to take on such a large project with only what was left in the budget after Joe depleted it. By the grace of God, we did find one. He swept in and got the job done in about 4 months. We finally moved in almost exactly one year after closing. Of course we had two mortgage payments the whole time. The work could have been finished within 6 months, or close to it, if we had found a great contractor like the one we found after we fired Mr. Depiano. Working with Mr. Depiano was harrowing. We were newbs at this, and therefore easy to fool. DON'T MAKE OUR MISTAKE.

I met with Chad Hunter (owner of Hunter kitchen and bath, Bryn Mawr PA) to renovate my small 6-by-9-foot bathroom. No plumbing had to be relocated, no shower door (I was ok with a shower curtain), same existing window... but yes new tiles, certainly upgraded electrics and lighting, and a heated floor. We met a couple of times and he mentioned a $60k figure. It was considerably more than I had budgeted ($40,000) - but I'd consider it if it was the total all-in price. I don't really have a handle on construction costs but it's a tiny space, and I do have a handle on sixty thousand dollars: it's a lot of money. I paid him a $1,500 up-front deposit for renderings and to quote. I met with him and his designer a couple of times. After a few months he set a meeting in his office to present the renderings and the quote. He showed me a computer rendering then placed a contract in front of me to sign. It was for $90,000, plus an additional 10% to 15% allowance for cost overruns. I guess he saw me gasp when he showed me that figure. He said I had selected additional items over standard. Really? Thirty thousand dollars over his list price in cost overruns... for such a small space: a 6 foot by 9 foot bathroom. A hundred thousand dollar bathroom? OK, yes, I wanted a handheld shower head in addition to an overhead shower head. And yes, I wanted a walk-in shower with a linear drain. But a $30,000 plus-plus increase in cost? I lost all faith in him and refused to sign his proposal. I said I'd take the renderings as I paid for them and would leave. He told me they were his propriety property, I could only get a credit for the deposit if he got the contract. Or, I could look at them if I came back to his storefront. Right. So if I didn't pay for or receive the computer renderings - I asked for my deposit back. He said non-refundable. So I guess I paid one thousand five hundred dollars for the privilege of having him quote. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but that doesn't sound like something I'd agreed to. I'm almost 80 years old and maybe he just takes advantage of older people. 3 days later he tried to apply damage control and mailed over a quote for $60,000 which I never looked-at having lost all confidence and trust in him. He mentioned he could do the renovation for $60 thousand dollars but it wouldn't be what I wanted. I already have something I don't want; and I really don't want to spend $60 thousand dollars and have something else I don't want. And now, I don't want the drawings - I just want my deposit back. I'm really glad I didn't use Hunter Kitchen and Bath as I'm afraid something awful would occur once the construction started and the price would escalate - that could have been so much worse, and could have potentially been much much more costly - with no way out. One star. Based on my own experience I can't recommend this firm.

Dan helped me with bathroom design and with choosing tile, tub, and shower doors. He was able to begin work a short time after I contacted him. His crew consisted of Vasili and Rene. Both were there like clockwork every day. Their work is superb. Dan was on the job several times throughout to check on things and to answer my questions in person. All the 5 star reviews on Google are truly deserved. I don't think you can find a better, more honest and reliable company for your home project.

He came out the next day, and replaced all of the gaskets around the roofing vents. He showed me a before and after picture of the gaskets. He surmised that a squirrel could have chewed into the gasket, trying to get into our house. I think that he is right, because other neighbors have squirrels in their attic. He is a nice guy, very professional, timely in his response and does not cost you an arm and a leg. I would hire him again in the future!
