Singha Thai is certainly not the only Thai restaurant in Frenchs Forest - there are more than a…read morefew, that's for sure. But amidst tough competition, Singha Thai is a bit of a soft spot for me. Firstly, the staff are SO nice - whenever you walk in they're pleased to chat to you (but not in an annoying, won't shut up kind of way), and are very quick to seat you and take your order. I'm a poor student (ergo, someone who rarely tips), and I always tip here - the staff are just so nice! The restaurant itself perhaps leaves a little to be desired - up a flight of stairs, this is regrettably not somewhere I'd take my less than agile Grandma. It's also really dark inside because of the way the building faces. The decor inside is also a little tired, a little faded. But the food - oh, the food! - the food makes up for this small oversight in restaurant decorating and furnishing. As do many Sydneysiders, I adore Thai and am well versed in it. And of the many suburban Thai's I have partaken in, Singha Thai Restaurant is pretty excellent. The menu offers a feast of Thai favourites - spring rolls, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and Thai Beef Salad are all done well here. The food always comes out quickly and with a smile, and taste amazing. It also tastes fresh - none of the slightly gluggy taste that so many Thai restaurants fall victim to. As one who lives in the area, I go back time and time again - for both the food and the excellent service.

Descriptions of its physical…read moresetting - lots of beautiful wooden Thai furniture, greenery all around, a pond filled with giant fish - fills me with pseudo-hippy pleasure. The descriptions of the food on the menu speak to me personally - Barbequed Duck with Stir-Fried Asian Greens, Thai Coconut Curry, Lime Milkshakes - as the stuff dreams are made of. The staff is purely young, good lookin' fellas. I want to love it; on an intellectual level, I do love it. But every time I go, the reality serves to disappoint. The settings are as ethereal and beautiful as they sound; just off frantic Mona Vale Road, the Buddha Belly does a remarkable job at maintaining tranquility no matter the traffic. But the food - always, always, always I am disappointed. The flavours are average; as my companion put it "It's nice. But you could eat just as well at Terrey Hills Tavern." The amount of pleasure that I derive from my slow-cooked Pork Belly is disproportionate to it's $30 price tag. My companion feels the same about her similarly-priced duck. Although beautifully presented, I am not impressed by the unnecessary use of a deep dish with a knife and fork - eating out is meant be enjoyable, not a task. The settings are beautiful; the service high-quality - if only the food was as good as everything else. Maybe a better choice for a coffee?

Decided to try out their thai milk tea and pad thai. The milk tea had quite a lot of condensed milk in it and less ice which made it thick and over sweet. Maybe the different type of condense milk has also an impact towards the beverage. Would prefer less condensed milk. For chicken pad thai, I asked the server to not include the dried shrimps. Order came around 10 minutes later. The taste is great and the noodles are cooked in perfection. Some of the chicken was still cold.. The price for Pad Thai was great :) I noticed quite a few table ordered the coconut ice cream for desserts and crushed ice flavored drinks to accompany their meals. Looked like they enjoyed what they have ordered. Besides that, to accommodate to new customers, the servers cleaned the tables quickly so that a new customer can use upon walking in. Located at the ferry terminal is definitely a bonus for this store.
