Located on arguably Newcastle's best eat out street, Darby Street and great to see it adding another dimension to the variety of restaurants already on offer. Tastefully Austrian with beer flags and music, but not at all in your face. We ordered 4 different beers and I absolutely loved the different glasses for each. Pretzels to start that were warm; perfectly browned and salted on the outside and soft on the inside. My friend also got the pretzel stick served with a Camembert spread. Menu wasn't too foreign with my friend opting for the schnitzel, my partner the farmers plate and pork knuckle for me. My partner didn't like the amount of fat in his meal but for better or worse I ate every last piece of fat and meat I could scavenge from the knuckle. It was amazing! Ending the night with apple schnapps that were too strong for me but friend loved them. Both of us going traditional with the apple strudel and the Viennese iced coffee for my partner. He said the coffee was very strong with my friend swooping in again to finish it off. We are a good team like that! The bill was expensive at over $200 but I feel it was worth it. Made another booking already to take my Dad for Father's Day.

Although it's quite new, the decor feels a little tired. Some furniture might have be inherited from the old restaurant (Long bench). BUT, don't let this put you off. The food was delicious. We shared our meals and the waffles with ricotta and fresh fruit was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in Newy. It was incredible! Service was good. Friendly, useful and sweet. Maybe a bit young and nervous but I'm sure after another few months she'll be great. The dinner menu looks well priced and delicious and so we'll definitely be back. A sophisticated take on lots of pork dishes. The back courtyard would be a nice place for an afternoon German beer, it looked like they had a selection on tap. Give this place a try next time you're on Darby St.

The courtyard is a nice place to eat/drink if the sun is out. Inside is cosy without being overcrowded. Staff are friendly and attentive (though not always if you are in the courtyard). Pizza's are a naughty but amazing treat. Their "Alaskan King Crab Lingeullini with Chili, Lemon et al." is a great lunch main - though wasn't 'chili enough' for people I was dining with. I went for a brunch option and had their "Croque Monsieur" which can be summed up as a posh toasted cheese & ham sandwich. I was a little disappointed with the portion size, but loved every bite of it. A perfectly cooked brioche with melted cheese, ham and a hint of french mustard was extremely moreish. I was happy to wash it down with a large coffee. I would recommend stopping by and trying Mrs Sippy if you are in the Double bay area, though consider the weather if you are going to be outside/in the courtyard.

At first I thought it was a cafe but it turned out to be a bar. However I ended up ordering a pot of tea (though probably should have had a beer). Anyway, the place is really nice, and the pot that came out was also pretty cool. However the thing that really put me off this place was the service. In fact it doesn't matter how nice a place is, bad customer service pretty much destorys it. However, I'm still willing to give it another shot if I ever happen to be down this way again.

When arriving you're usually ushered in with great precision by a snappy little fella in a pair of Lederhosen, no messing about, it's all business & schnitzel. Most people know what they're going to eat before they even get there & usually your eyes are bigger than your stomach. Never fear order up & there's take away boxes available! Una's has a great selection of beers, or there's a bottle shop of the road if you'd rather to BYO with a bottle of wine. I tend to try & not drink too much beer here for the fear of filling up & not having room for my Schnitz. I've tried a few of the starters, Deep Fried Camembert, a decadent delight. The Dutch Beef Croquets are a favourite shared amongst friends & topped with a little of the mustard located on the table - yum yum! The mains, well it's hard to go past the Schnitzel! I've been here with friends & watched them order other great plates, such as the Una's Beef Goulash, with Spatzle. I'd love to try it some time, however I'm always drawn to the golden schnitzel. I've had the Vienna Schnitzel, & the Chicken, my favourite dish at Una's would have to be the Chicken Jaegar Schnitzel, served with mushroom sauce, rosti & a cabbage salad on the side. It's so HUGE you wonder how you're going to get through, I must admit though I usually do. I have to admit I even had an occasion where we were pressed for time as were going to a concert & had stopped in for a bite.. My sister said we haven't got long we'd better eat quickly. I think I ate that schnitzel like I was at the world class Hot Dog eating competition at Coney Island. No sooner had I finished my meal (in record time) that the patron's on the adjacent table commented on how well & quickly I'd gotten through it. I was a little embarrassed, but proudly so, lol! ;-) go ME! If you decide to get a take away box, or open the second stomach there's always a serve of Una's Apple Strudel & Ice-cream to top it all off, why not get one share it, just to try. So pack your stretchy pants & visit Una's, the perfect place to enjoy a schnitzel with friends especially in the cold winter months.

Food was good but I am only giving a three stars because of a few annoying things - I sent a message to them on their website a week in advance, hoping to make a reservation. No reply. It turned out that they do not take reservations, but still, a reply would have been nice - Food took FOREVER. I get it, a small restaurant and hence a small kitchen. But it shouldnt take over 20 mins to cook some dumplings. - waitress didnt know the menu? ("I dont' really know what is it, as it's the first day on the menu"). Not cool. - Tables are pretty close to one another, I didnt like how you cant help but to overhear others' conversation and vice versa. Dumplings were pretty decent ,so was the beef curry - meat was sooo tender + grilled yummy roti ! I would recommend this place if you are around the area, but if not, dont bother :)

The dumpling flavours are unique and worthy of a try (I loved the snowpea and crab and the prawn and scallop). I also highly recommend the Lamb Shank Massaman, the flavours were rich and perfect on a Winter's night. You cannot book at this restaurant so I suggest you head there early as it's quite small and every table was taken the whole time we were there. Prices are also very reasonable considering the service and quality of food was so good. Will definitely be returning to try more dumplings!
