The prime rib was for my birthday dinner so my husband left his phone number with them. He received a call later that day asking if the prime rib should be fresh or frozen. They wanted to make sure it did not get frozen if it was being used right away. He advised fresh and commented at what good customer service it was to make the distinction. We went together for pick up. The person who helped us when through the entire smoker bundle to show us the contents and then got the rib roast. Everything was well packaged and arranged. Even though it was the Friday before a religious holiday, and many folks were picking things up, it did not take long for us to get our order, pay and be on our way. The meats we have received both on this order and in the past have always been high quality. Edwards is an excellent butcher shop.

Hot supersad, Italian sausage sangweech on monthly special, they got all the hits, all the classics, jamon, pancetta, pershoot, all the bones, all the oddball cuts, half beef for 6.99 a pound cut packaged and frozen out the door. Like 30 different kinds of bacon... If it comes from an animal I bet these guys can get it for you. Im a guy in the meat industry myself, and im just so impressed with this place. Ive been around, and I know excellence when I see it. Edwards Meats is it.

Wheat Ridge Poultry and Meats is your local connection. We visited a few weeks ago and went in separately with our masks. Forgot yours? They offered masks and antibacterial disinfectant right at the door. So thoughtful! The staff were great and super helpful. They offer everything at reasonable prices and had a few things (like jalapeno seasoned bacon, hatch chili bacon and keto bacon, ya'll) that we'll be back for again and again. They offer fresh eggs and source most, if not all of their meats and produce locally. They work with local farmers and ranchers who treat their animals humanely, grow organic produce and don't use antibiotics, hormones and GMOs (check out their website for more details). Ice cream - they're sporting Little Man ice cream flavors and the cheese curds are also local - Cream City Cheese Curds. And.... I can't wait to pick up The Village Pie Maker pies next time we're there. Such a great find! Go.... go now!

If you don't get it right, they may not process your game. Read the website...carefully. Make an appointment. Then read the website again. If you have questions, good luck, Steve's did not answer the phone or return voice mail. So read the website -- every page as there is a tidbit of important info you need to know and it is spread out. Once you get your meat processed, they dictate the day and a two hour window for pickup -- if you fail to get it, they start charging a storage fee immediately. So once I thought I understood the rules, I dropped off my elk, I felt pressured to make decisions about what I wanted - Steve's is busy during hunting season and showed little patience to answer questions about the various products and what they could do. So I made some hasty decisions on processing, waited till my pick-up day/time and went back to the market. The payment process was smooth. From what I can see Steve's prepared everything exactly as I requested. Perfect. They appear to be experts in wild game processing, have demand and they appear to have a following. Now that I better understand some of their rules/procedures, the next time should go smoother. So I am impressed with the product, but their customer interface could use some more attention.

The yield was shockingly low for a healthy deer--something felt off, but we chalked it up as a fluke and moved on. Fast forward to this year, and we gave Meat Cleaver a chance at redemption. Big mistake. We specifically requested the entire deer be made into jerky meat. What we got instead? Only 12 lbs of jerky, and the rest turned into burger without approval. That is not what was asked for, and not what we paid for. After raising the issue, they "made it right" by donating 10 lbs of jerky back to us, which honestly just felt like damage control rather than accountability. At that point, the trust was already gone. To be fair, the front office staff is polite and accommodating, and communication was friendly. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. When it comes to the actual product--the meat processing itself--it's just not good. If you can't follow clear instructions or deliver consistent yields, then it doesn't matter how nice the front desk is. 22 lbs of meat off a deer that is well over 200 lbs is inexcusable.

Originally dropped off 2 elk on 11/23(mine and my buddies). Had never used these guys in the past,…read morebut after years of hearing nothing but positive feedback from others, decided to give them a shot. Had a pretty unpleasant experience at drop off with a mouthy, younger gentleman who unloaded the animals. Not the end of the world and looked past. Dealt with Jeff, the apparent new owner, on giving the cuts we wanted to have and what sausage we wanted done. Once finished, Jeff said to expect an email within 3-4 weeks from drop off date of 11/23. Simple enough. As of 12/23, my buddy nor I, had received any communication or emails. I emailed them to see when we might be expecting to pickup our processed meat. Received a response back 12/26 "CLOSED TILL JAN 2ND. WILL BE IN TOUCH SOON....MC". Ok, no problem, I expect and appreciate them being closed for the holidays. Received an email 12/30 stating my order is ready for pickup. Arrive on 1/2 to pickup my order. Upon picking up, I asked Jeff when my buddy can expect an email or be notified that his animal is ready. Gave Jeff my buddy's name, he looks it up in the computer, and tells me "well, we don't go in order of the tag numbers or the order of when they were dropped off". Ok, whatever. Get home, start unloading my meat from coolers and start placing into the freezer, only to notice a strong 25% of the vacuum sealed packages, the vacuum seal had failed and the meat had frost or freezer burn inside the packaging. Not only that, but I only received 3 packages of Elk tenderloins with 1-2 tenderloins, about the size of a 1/2" thick hockey puck.... There was absolutely no damage done to the tenderloins or backstraps on my animal, and no reason there should have been any trimmed out of what was dropped off. Decided to take a look at the drop off and cut sheet to see if maybe I am missing something and confirm what the drop off weight was. Guess what?!? No drop off weight given! I specifically quizzed Jeff when we dropped off our animals how much meat we could expect to receive back from a full size cow elk. His reply, 175 pounds. What did I receive back, per their invoice? 233 total pounds. To make matters worse, I don't know what kind of pork fat they mixed in with the burger(I requested 10% pork fat be mixed in), but when trying to make patties, this is the stickiest, greasiest meat I have ever touched. AND, the smell is horrendous. I would highly recommend steering clear of this business, if you have the expectation of receiving back the animal you dropped off, in edible condition, and feeling satisfied with the outcome or your hard earned harvest.
