We went in late July and the water was gushing nicely, and the weather was fine even though it rained a bit that day.

It's only a 30 minute drive to South Lake which make it an easy choice when other campsites were packed to the brim. We paid $27 into a drop box for the night and chose our own site to pitch up on. Each site is a good size and gives you space from your neighbors. There's a fire pit and bear box for every site. Lots of fun and definitely looking to return!

And running faucet outside. Each campsite is equipped with bear proof boxes, a wood burning bbq, picnic bench and small fire pit. There are several marked hiking trails. A stream. Posted signs about the Pony Express that once traveled through these parts. Normal warnings about the local environment and wildlife that may and do frequent the area, are posted. We watched several guys all geared up and ready to climb to face of cliff. I picked my future home site (err, I mean campsite ;)) for our next visit. This place is beautiful! Looking for something nice and not expensive?? No need to go ask the way to Tahoe. You'll find serenity here!

Chasing (roadside) waterfalls…read more.. This is a pretty decent roadside waterfall off Highway 50 (between Sac and Lake Tahoe) near Pollock Pines. It is pretty during spring as snow melting gives the waterfall a good amount of flow with a drop of 80-ft. Nice stop to stretch out the legs at the same time. The waterfall grabs your attention whether you're driving to or from Lake Tahoe. The falls is to your right as you head to the Lake. I suppose you can pull over on the opposite side of the highway to get a full view of the falls but I wouldn't cross the road as it is dangerous because there are blind turns, sometimes cars and trucks whiz by fast and furious down this road. Easy access where you literally just pull over into a very large pullout right in front of the falls. This waterfalls is about 60 miles from our place. It is worth stopping to look at, at least once, on your way to Lake Tahoe. Review #2106 updated

And as it was a railroad, it's level and easy, and as it's in the tunnels, you're mostly protected from the weather. Bring good trail walking shoes and a flashlight. A few bikers, of which, I was one. Everyone was friendly and courteous with their pups, and kids. Parking was easy in the lot by Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. If biking, I recommend a fat tire bike as the gravel is deep in random spots in the tunnels. Water trickles through in several spots. I recommend a head lamp in addition to your fully charged bike light, some tunnels are really dark, and long!

Maybe not so much for my mom because she was lowkey struggling since it started to become a rocky trail, the closer you get to the waterfall. It's not a smooth, walk-in-the-park trail, since it's rocky, so just be prepared! I've seen lots of people use hiking sticks or trekking poles-- they were definitely prepared. We got lucky with the weather - it was a clear and beautiful day. Parking was plentiful as it was a weekday and off season. The lake was beautiful and there are plenty of trails to choose from. I chose the Echo Lake trail and the views were spectacular. The hike was about 6.5 miles and the elevation was about 7,500 feet. The trail was rocky with plenty of shade to take breaks. I have a small dog but she held her own and did so good. It was a great experience, I'm lucky to have been here and I would come back.

The trail runs right along the lake, so the scenery is gorgeous the entire way. I'd call it an easy to moderate hike, depending on how wet or snowy the trail is.

This was a short hike from the parking lot area to Eagle Falls. I learned that day that there are…read moremany trails in the area, but our goal was to visit the top of the hill. It was a fun and kid-friendly hike. Parking space is minimal; luckily, we found parking as we pulled up. A hiker was gracious enough to give us his parking ticket to use for the remainder of the day. The hike is less than 1 mile from the parking lot. It can be steep and has stairs, so watching your steps and strollers is not recommended. There's a small rest area with a bench and rocks you can sit on. You can view the waterfalls from this area or continue towards the bridge. There's also a small swimming area that you will see after you cross the bridge to the right. It was busy when we arrived, and families enjoyed the water. Overall, a convenient and short hike.
