    Produce section. Recently remodeled.
    Sam B.

This is a small Ralph's but they have a lot of great products, are well stocked, and the location is convenient. They have a small vegan section with lots of vegan meats and cheeses. They also cater to the kosher community and have a good selection of kosher cheeses and products. They recently revamped the produce department at this location and I am not fond of the update. The aisles of produce are long and narrow. Granted, they are limited on space and want to fit in as much as possible into the space but I dislike having to squeeze by other people in the aisles. I wish they had left some spaces to walk though to break up the space and get around easier. The other issue I have with the produce department is that they often run out of bags and don't refill them. Last time I was there they had two empty dispensers. Sure, one could walk over to another bag dispenser, they weren't all empty, but I'm of the opinion that every single bag dispenser should always be refilled when emptied. There are some things I really like about Ralphs. They have competitive prices. They also send me coupons in the mail so I can get money off on things that I buy. I've also gotten lots of free mayo from those coupons which I really appreciate. They also come out with a great seasonal magazine with more coupons and recipes. Another great thing I love about Ralphs is that you can give back to your community or favorite charity. You can donate to the charity of your choice (that's registered of course) for free just by shopping at Ralphs. It's just like the sadly discontinued Amazon Smile program. It's called The Community Rewards Program and you just link your favorite organization to your card and shop as usual. The hours of this store are also great. They open really early at 6am and are open all day until 1am. Perfect for when you need food but everywhere else is closed!

I love coming to this Ralphs. It's in a perfect location and it's always easy to park, and the shelves are pretty well-stocked. It's clean and easy to find things. The only thing I would say is it negative is it the aisles are little bit narrow and they don't have a big variety of individual drinks in the refrigerators. But there's a good righty of fresh fruits, delicious looking cakes, sushi, meats, salads, and a lot of other foods that make life a little more convenient.

They had an offer to waive the service fee and delivery after spending a certain amount before the end of the year. I went online and placed my order. I enjoyed that they had the option to pick a replacement for an item should it be out of stock and also to leave a note. For example, I wanted my avocados to be almost ripe but not mushy so I left that in the comments section. They gave me a window for delivery and the groceries were delivered within that time. The order was correct and the produce was absolutely beautiful and so fresh. Only caveat was that I had asked for all the items that needed to be in the fridge or freezer to be packed together so I could easily remove them first and that was not done. The other thing that I disappointed me is that some of the eggs in my carton were cracked (and yes, I did put in the notes to check for this). Other than that I was really happy I took advantage of this offer and it was the reason I shopped here instead of the competitors. If you want to receive offers like this and enjoy grocery delivery from time to time I strongly suggest getting on the Gelson's e-mail mailing list.

I like variety, I like getting inspired for the week, and in an ideal situation this store actually has a great selection. Unfortunately, none of that mattered the moment I walked through the doors. The smell hit me immediately, and when I say hit, I mean it was horrific. I genuinely stopped in my tracks because I thought something had gone very wrong. At first I tried to brush it off, thinking maybe it was temporary or localized, but as I kept walking it became painfully clear that the odor was coming from the meat department. That alone is extremely concerning. It wasn't subtle, it wasn't faint, it was strong enough that it felt like it was oozing through the entire store and clinging to everything around it. I tried to push through because I didn't want to waste the stop, but I quickly realized I couldn't bring myself to buy anything fresh. Produce was a no, bakery was a no, meat was obviously out of the question. I ended up only feeling comfortable looking at pre packaged, fully sealed items, and even then I was second guessing myself. A grocery store should never make you feel uneasy about food safety, and unfortunately that's exactly how this visit felt. What's frustrating is that if the smell wasn't there, I actually would have enjoyed shopping here. The layout, the offerings, the overall vibe should have worked for me. But a grocery store lives and dies by cleanliness and freshness, and this experience completely missed the mark. I don't know what happened that day, but it was bad enough that I won't be back anytime soon. The staff didn't leave an impression on me as well.

It is a bit surreal being in a grocery store where the mean/median/mode price of something is 10x what it'd be at a normal shop. There's a parking garage right next to this location, but there was also a good amount of street parking nearby. Staff was very friendly! I got an 8 oz. jar of the Summit Trail Mix, which I really liked! It's not too salty and the dried fruits complimented the almonds so well. Enjoyed it so much that I kinda wish I opted for the bigger jar. Also, on top of the already steep price, there's a $3 bottle deposit. Since it was my first time here, the cashier let me know that you can get your deposit back if you bring the bottles/jars back to the store. After making my trail mix purchase, I got the strawberry glaze smoothie. My smoothie was ready pretty quickly. I'm not a big strawberry-flavor lover, but I really enjoyed this smoothie. It was the perfect refreshing drink for hot weather and walking around. I also felt very fitting and pretentious taking sips of my smoothie while strolling around Melrose. Recently, Rite Aid transferred my prescriptions to this Ralphs and I am just SHOCKED at how downhill this place has gone. It's dirty. In the cramped and small parking lot, you'll see garbage, debris and almost always, a police action. The store, which was never particularly roomy, has been made even worse by the installation of anti-theft panels and cabinets to lock up any item of even minuscule value. The aisles are now even more narrow and cramped. I have no idea how one finds a basket or cart... you just wander around hoping for a castaway. Not that I needed either... I wouldn't buy anything from the "fresh" section or deli here on a dare. I saw turkey that was so un-fresh it had turned a scary shade of taupe. The produce area is impossible to navigate and this morning, there were several large spills that were being studiously ignored by the staff. And the pharmacy - what a mess. It's in a dark, dank corner but still right in an aisle, so there is no where to line up. And there WILL be a line, because the hours aren't very convenient. This Rock and Roll Ralphs was always a little "gritty". But it's gone too far. Probably best to gut the entire store and either start over or just tear it down.

I called around 4 PM to place a cookie order and spoke with Ashley. I was immediately told that all cookie orders require 48-hour notice--without being asked how many cookies I needed or any details about the order. I even clarified that I was only looking for one dozen original cookies and one dozen milk chocolate, and she reiterated that all cookie orders require 48-hour notice. What was most frustrating wasn't even the policy--it was the lack of basic customer service. There were no follow-up questions, no attempt to offer alternatives, and no effort to see if anything could be accommodated for the next day. The conversation felt very one-sided and dismissive. I've ordered from other Bristol Farms locations throughout Southern California and have not encountered such a rigid, across-the-board policy, which made this experience even more surprising. I ended up placing the order elsewhere, and my group was very happy with that decision for several reasons, including the overall service experience. At a minimum, I would expect staff to: * Ask a few clarifying questions before declining a request * Offer alternatives or solutions when possible * Communicate policies in a more customer-friendly way Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've experienced slow or inconsistent service at this particular counter, which makes it harder to rely on. I would also be interested to understand what measures are in place to ensure team members are trained and supported to deliver a customer-focused experience that helps grow the business, rather than turning away reasonable requests.
