Love this fancy Ralph's, because they have an upgraded deli, cheese, bread, and dessert section. Whenever I'm in the area, I try to stop and see what they have that looks interesting. I love that Ralph's marks down categories like bagged vegetables, fresh salad dressings, etc that other market chains don't discount. A lot of the time, I walk the outer perimeter and never even make it to the center of the store. They also have a larger selection of chips, snacks, etc. Craft sodas, unusual beers, you got it. This parking lot can be like Mad Max, with people battling it out for prime spots. Be on your toes for people backing in, and then leaving the wrong way. read more

This Ralph's store seems to be declining slowly over the last dozen years. The selection and prices on most items are good, but shoppers might want to be careful with produce. Produce seems to sometimes ring up at the registers at much higher prices than those posted. The staff seem to be unaware of the issue and seem unconcerned about preventing future customers from being overcharged. read more

What happened!!!! Terrible!!! Nearly every visit someone runs out with beer/wine/laundry detergent or something while I struggle to checkout with coupons that don't work. To make matters worse the attendant at self checkout is clueless and the supervisor/manager is condescending and wants to fight over a $1 off while $100's of dollars are running out the door right in front of him. The coupons are deceiving and confusing for the patrons and obviously too complex for employees/managers as well. Brought to light by a recent news story regarding "Grocery Store Fraud". I've lived here for over 50 years and am appalled by how clueless the management is to theft and mistreatment of patrons. My family of 4 and I have likely spent $100,000's plus plus... over the years. The increased costs, shrinkage, lack of variety, overall poor quality of produce & meat and mostly the overall un-kept condition of this store is disappointing at best. Leaky meat juice, sticky counters, trash on the floor, smelly meat department. Our neighborhood deserves better! Thankfully Jumbo's is around the corner with high quality items, employees that care, Managment that appears to have higher standards and products. Well worth the switch with all things considered. This Ralph's is disgusting. I moved closer to this store a year and a half ago and made it my main store. I have consistently had to throw away or return food because it's gone bad shortly after I bought it, I've opened it that night to find mold, etc.. I just threw out about six things today that had gone bad way before their expiration date, including parmesan, steaks and some ravioli. When I was there over Thanksgiving, I saw a cheese plate on the floor covered in a green moss for $35 and took it to an employee who said 'disgusting' and promptly took it to the back. I called the main line today to log a complaint but they didn't care. I'm done with this place. Too many other options and I'll drive a little further to get fresh food. Today (March 6th) I shopped at Ralphs/Del Mar Heights and was shocked to see the price-hikes that have occurred only within the couple of days following Trump's tariff announcement. For example, any specialty item such as bakery, deli, and their Designer Cheeses have increased in price between 30-50% within the last week. Even items in the day-old bread cubbyhole are at least $1.00 more than they were only a few days ago. Tell me this is all just a coincidence. On more than one occasion I have found that Ralphs self-checkout commits one or two pricing errors, which ALWAYS result in overcharging for an item. If these errors were random, they would favor the house roughly half the time., but they aren't, and they don't. Frankly speaking, I'm truly weary of having to watch my back when I shop at this place. As for ambience, the store overall and the manner in which they display perishable fresh fruits and vegetables are somewhat unappetizing. Several aisles are crowded with merchandise that simply impedes traffic. There are only two grocery stores in the immediate Del Mar Heights neighborhood, Ralphs and Vons. Neither offers much incentive to consumers. That's why God created Aldi. read more

My go to Ralphs shopping center if I'm taking cycling class nearby! Location/experience: Located in the Del Mar Highlands plaza. There are many stores/restaurants in this area. Starbucks is also conveniently located next door. Plenty of parking depending on the time of day. I never have an issue in the morning. Fairly large grocery store with everything you could possibly need. They have a decent selection of fruits and veggies and sometimes better deals than Vons. I love their papayas. I've never had a bad papaya from here *knock on wood*. They also have marked down prices on produce, but you have to use them right away or else they'll go bad. I usually figure out what I'll be eating for the day and see what products they have on sale. Bargain shopper here! I also love their berries selection and they are always in stock. They have pre-sliced jicama sticks for a good price and all your typical grocery items. Prices are hit or miss depending on your needs. I also love that they have self-checkout machines because it speeds up the process when I'm in a rush. Employees aren't the friendliest and pretty much keep to themselves. I rarely get greeted. I get it. You don't enjoy your job, but I think it helps to smile and make the best of your time there. It really can turn your day around when you have a positive mindset. Just my two cents. Overall, it's an average rating for me. They have what I need, but definitely has room for improvement. read more

Ralphs...not a fan. I have always solely shopped at costco/trader joes, but sometimes I need to come to ralphs. With curbside pickup i'm more inclined to come here so i don't have to go inside. this past week...i ordered some 2 Liter Soda's for an upcoming party. They are significantly cheaper here vs. costco (believe it or not!). I ordered my curbside pickup...19/20 bottles were in order. I wasn't worried b/c i know they adjust the quantity and wont charge me for missing items. I got home and double/triple checked the order. Then i got my "final bill" and i opened it to confirm that i wasn't charged for 20 bottles. Well..i WAS charged for all 20 + more! WTH?!?! my bill should have been $34 and it was $78! I tried online customer service...no luck, I tried calling the store ...no luck. ugh...i went in (and in doing so i was late to a meeting of my own). I ordered here for price and convenience and now i'm getting charged more than double and am wasting my time. i walked in and found a manager who was quite pleasant. He walked with me to the computer that handles online orders. The women in charge of that was a raging lunatic. She didn't care at all about helping me, instead she was running around like a crazy person trying to get current orders out. She literally said that there was nothing she could do. Another lady approached me to help ( i think manager sent her over). she was wonderful! they could not figure out what happened and i was clear that i did not have time to follow up on this again. I needed it handled right then and there. they had some power outages and issues so i imagine it had something to do with that. This lady helped me and refunded me the amount. ugh...what a waste of my day.. also side note...next day i went in to order cakes/donuts for a party. the guy working the counter completely ignored me as i stood there for 5 minutes...then he started to leave! i had to ask him if there was someone i could order from. he w/o reply walked back and said "what do you want to order" super unprofessional and emotionally detached. i placed my order and had him read it back to me. Picked up today and they got it all wrong. Decorating is stellar, but flavors, type of donut was all wrong. didn't offer any compensation at all and there is no time to correct the problem. I just have to deal with receiving a product that is not what i ordered. Ralphs..please pull it together. I thought you guys were better than this. read more

The staff behind the butcher counter are some of the worst I've encountered in any service industry, but after last night, I wont return to this location for anything. I approached the butcher counter about 90 minutes before close to find one person starting closing prep (cleaning, organizing, etc.). I waited for a few minutes to let him finish up his current task before ringing the bell for service. After 5 minutes went by with no one answering the bell, I rang again just in case the first one wasn't heard. Keep in mind that the person behind the counter doing closing prep saw me but did not make any attempt to assist. A woman approached the counter, looked at me, and then yelled "HEY" at the guy behind the counter to get his attention. He helped her, looked straight at me (again), and then went back to his closing prep. I guess that's what I get for trying to be polite. This is pretty much normal for this location. I guess at this point is my own fault for expecting a different experience. read more

This Ralphs is okay. I like going to Ralph's for their hot food counter for lunch when I worked in downtown and it was great! Thinking that this Ralph's was good too since it's in Del Mar... not really... The hot food counter sucks. The food looks all dried up or it ran out by 11:30am... there's like nothing left! Also the soups, the clam chowder to be specific, is so runny. From other Ralph's theirs is all nice, creamy and thick... not this one. It's like water with some cream and minuscule amount of clams. Not a very good hot food counter. They do have a bulk food counter- which is cool. And plenty of parking. read more

Need to give an update as staff here are just beyond rude. As I've stated previously, it's always so terribly busy here and parking is a nightmare unless you are willing to walk about a mile. Additionally there are often solicitors outside the doors and staff does not care. On my most recent visit my card was declined because I had disabled transactions when not using it, the cashier (an Indian man who's name I did not get) refused to let me try my card again after enabling it and just kind of assumed the worst and was very off-putting and rude. As far as the selection goes, it's your average Ralphs with a few more organic products than other locations, but simply doesn't compare to Jimbo's or Lazy Acres. Prices are rather high for what you can get at this Ralphs and overall it's not worth the headache of coming here. read more

I cannot visit San Diego without going to a Ralphs. I had not visited this Ralphs location before but I liked it. We got some cakes (one gluten free) for a family celebration and some other items. They charged for plastic bags too but we were given 2 complimentary bags. They have alcohol at Ralphs and a Starbucks. There was plenty of parking outside and we even got to get Ralphs membership discounts with the swipe of another shoppers member card. I recommend Ralphs whenever visiting San Diego. read more

What whaaaat? A grocery store gets five stars? Let's put things in context. I'm not comparing a Ralphs to L'atelier de Joel Robuchon. Nor to a glorious clifftop hotel. Going to a Ralphs doesn't create memories of a lifetime. But in the universe of those places where you want to get in, get stuff you need for breakfast, lunch, dinner, parties, etc., and then GTFO: this Ralphs location is top, top, top-notch. The supermarket is huge. It also comes stocked. Stocked with everything you'd need, everything you'd ever want, and all kinds of stuff you'd never want. Prime steaks? Absolutely wonderful filets, yes! I haven't even gotten into the occasional dry-aged meats on display but they are on my list. Prawns as big as your hand and $30 a pound? Right next to the king crab that's as big as an adult arm holding an apple. Cheese time? What'll it be, locally made, Wisconsin, imported? From the rank personal-horrors of the bleus to the richnesses of the goudas, Manchegos, and aged cheddars, to the creaminess of the bries and Camemberes, to the stuff I've never heard of, acres of display cases await. Something to go with that cheese? Head nearby to the cases of charcuterie or the buffet of stuffed grape leaves and various olives stuffed with various stuffings. Need your marinated artichoke hearts to come direct from Israel? I don't, but if you do, they're $10 a jar. As for your regular mainstays, like GMO-fortified milk, cage-raised eggs, Sunny Delight, and Cheetos: they're all priced as low as any other Ralphs and similar to any 'ol supermarket. You may be shocked to find that the Because We Can pricing scheme -- which inflates the local cost of every other necessity from gas to dry cleaning -- hasn't affected this store. You also may notice that your fellow shoppers aren't the sunniest of people. This certainly isn't the fault of Ralphs. Your three major Del Mar and Del Mar Adjacent demographics converge upon this store. Expect a few unrepentant or completely oblivious shopping cart collisions with the hypercaffinated helicopter-mom of Aiden and Madison, the zoned-out stretched-out Xanaxian*, and the retiree who simply doesn't give a fuck. Fortunately, the employees are always helpful and even maintain an element of cheer in this sea of hyperentitlement. At least twice I've heard petulant squall of Is Anybody Working Here to summon the butcher, and the butcher seems to take the whiner in stride, smiling wide, knives kept to his side. Checkout lines move quickly on their own, propulsion by deep, very audible retiree sighs not required but it happens anyway. This Ralphs isn't the closest supermarket to me. But I'll give it the extra five minutes of a drive. If I move from here, I might even give it the extra fifteen. * I find the term "Del Martian" to be played out, and also not specific enough. We know what planet they're really from, and all you need is a pushover doctor to rocket you there. read more

I've been shopping here for 8 years and I've never met such a joke of a human being as Wayne McQueen. I mean this dude is so bad the person who hired him should be fired. While the conversation that occurred really isn't that interesting or noteworthy to share here, Wayne's attitude from the get go after being called on the radio by the manager to sort out the issue was a joke to say the least. He had a sloppy attitude with the manager and started rambling some lying nonsense. Then it was when I said "Now let me tell you what happened" where he then interrupted me and stuck his finger in the air like a diva and said "I'm done talking to you" and walked off like a sassy Susan That was literally the only thing I said. We have been going here over the past 5 years plus. GREAT selection of everything under the sun you need/want. Fruits and veges are fresh and so are the meats/everything else. Normally need to look for when everything comes on sale as normal pricing is a little high. But NEVER a line to check out is GREAT! Also they replaced all their in house donuts with Krispy Kremes! Those are too sugary and they are over $3.00 each! Please bring back the regular donuts like maple bars @ $1.00 each! They were AWESOME! But I want to say a special shout out to ED in the Service Deli. He has a great personality/attitude and has GREAT customer service skills. Been meaning to update since the plastic bag law went into effect. Initially thought I would just deal with the hassle, until I was at another Ralphs (La Jolla Village Square) and saw they do things a different way with their plastic bags. Ever since the law passed regarding the plastic bags, this Ralphs has become so incredibly stingy with the bags which is puzzling since I have to pay for them. When they were free, they would almost give you a bag per item. Now, they try to jam everything into the least amount of bags thus smashing quite a bit of the food. Hey Ralphs... their 10 cents! If I need 10 bags and have to pay an extra dollar, fine! Since I'm already spending a fortune on your food (high prices at this store) I would rather not shove everything into one bag ruining half of the contents before I get home. Today I was checking out and they asked if I wanted to purchase bags and I informed them to give me as many bags as needed and I didn't mind paying. But instead of doing that, they tried to cram everything into two bags when I clearly needed no less than 4 bags. It's only an extra 20 cents people!!!! Personally, I prefer to use the self-checkout but they hide the bags and rarely is anyone there to hand out the bags and you usually have to go hunting for someone. Two days ago I was at the Ralphs in La Jolla Village and right at the self-checkout lines, they have a self serve stack of plastic bags!!! Yes, they actually trust their customers unlike the Del Mar Heights Ralphs which makes you hunt someone down for the self-checkout or beg for more bags (even though you have to pay for them) in the traditional lines. read more

I am a regular customer at this Ralphs. However, the customers that come into this store are always RUDE, ENTITLED, and RACIST. I've witnessed MANY times where regulars of this store that I've seen have been rude, racist, and condescending towards people of other races. It is a VERY SAD thing to constantly see occur and I will NOT be recommending this store as it is constantly crowded with HATEFUL people. They do NOTHING to limit the amount of people within the store, despite COVID-19, and it is always crowded with people running into each other, causing hate and frustrations to be spewed at others due to the crowds, and the one way lanes DO NOT help. It DOES NOT make sense to have to go completely around another aisle to go the correct way in your desired aisle - especially if you are in a hurry. What would make sense would be the limit the amount of people inside the store at once like how Trader Joe's currently does, if making the aisles bigger so that there may be two lanes per aisle is not feasible. All in all, this Ralphs is one of the worst Ralphs I have been in, and this is due to the horrible customers. Avoid this Ralphs if you want to keep your peace of mind and not have this negatively affected by HATEFUL, RUDE, ENTITLED, and RACIST customers. read more

Horrible logistics and customer service/communication from Wayne. On March 2nd, 2023, I was shopping for peanut butter, my normal one was still out of stock, so I picked out a peanut/cashew butter mix for $4.79 price tag. I grabbed that one, got back home, and to my surprise, it was actually $13.99, and leaking palm oil. SO, the next day, March 3rd, I took it back for return, as I'm not looking to pay $14 for leaky peanut butter that was directly above and center the $4.79 price tag, I informed both employees I interacted with that I mistakenly bought it for $13.99, and additionally, it was leaky. (Manager!?) Wayne, he was taking forever and while condescendingly telling me it's 6 months expired, conducting himself as if I'm trying to scam peanut butter from the place I've spent over $10,000 at, makes no sense, so I reaffirmed him I bought it yesterday and he could check the cameras, also I suggested to him (after he informed me it was 6 months expired): .. "maybe it is 6 months expired because nobody is wanting to spend $14 on peanut butter" subsequently, he says he'll swap it out, and that's the best thing he can do, proceeding that, he claims I'm uncivil while I am reemphasizing it was directly above the wrong price marker, leaking oil, and now 6 months expired (having been purchased the day prior). He told me I can come back if I want to be civil and have it swapped like he's on the verge, or about to ban me from the store, as I'm merely explaining how the situation doesn't add up, wrong price tag, leaky jar, 6 months old expired, less than 1 day old receipt, and no refund. He doesn't have rational, real world problem solving capabilities. Pretty much a drone, but worse, he escalates situations, gives ultimatums, and is a brick wall when it comes to being helpful, meanwhile- a (well-paying!) customer is being swindled into accepting no refund on a $14, false priced, 6 month old expired, and leaking jar of peanut butter, which was purchased less than 24 hours earlier from attempt of return. He's got to be the worst manager imaginable. Now I'm scammed over $14 peanut butter. Clown world! read more
