I shopped at Ralphs Market 25539 Paseo De Valencia in Laguna Hills. The place was nice and clean. The staff at this store was super nice and friendly. We were running low of food items for our refrigerator, I bought some items to help replenish it. Soy milk, cereal, bananas, water bottles, Coke zero, wheat bread, franks, and potato chips. Ralph's grocery market has changed considerably in the last two years. It has become one giant junk store, with so many displays packed on every aisle that it makes me nervous walking around. There's nothing peaceful about grocery shopping any longer, some thing I enjoy doing in a nice grocery store. Unfortunately, it is a gross closest grocery store to my home, so I choose to drive an extra distance to shop elsewhere. However, I choose not to walk in there, unless I am in a rush, and have to stop in for something. But I go to Albertsons or Stater Bros. rather than Ralphs. I heard that Ralphs is trying to buy Albertsons. If that crap up Albertsons like they do Ralph's, I will shop only at Stater brothers. The store has become a nightmare. There is a Waldorf area where you have to pay separately for health and beauty, supplies and laundry detergent within the store. And you have to pay for all your other groceries elsewhere. Very rude racist lady at Ralph's , she refused service to a Mexican couple in their 50s trying to get Modelos bc they had passports and not IDs. She did not want to explain to them why they are getting denied service. And she was very sarcastic and rude saying " no I'm not going to sell you them" and did not give them a valid reason . I told her, tell me why they are getting denied so I can translate it to them, and she refused. She didn't want to explain it to me either. She decided to be a Karen instead of being a manager explaining to the customers as to why the Mexican couple got denied service , She then proceeded to be racist by mocking the Spanish language trying to speak it in a rude way, and when we where walking away, She was instigating the situation even more , by saying "adios amigos" . Went into the store to buy some food from the Deli, turned out there wasn't anyone there to help out. While discussing the matter with another Ralph's customer an employee, who was sitting at the door selling Boost mobile enrollments, walked up and jumped into the conversation telling the other customer there was no one there. Finding this hard to believe, I told the customer I would check with store management to get some help. Apparently this didn't sit well with this employee who insisted there was no one there to help us (I have never been in a supermarket at 5pm where they didn't have "enough employees to cover the service deli). Turned out he was right but it didn't end there as he insisted on telling me he was right. I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude and to stop talking to me which only made him talk more. I made two more requests for him to stop talking, which he ignored, finally telling him to shut up. He then told me I was lucky he was working today - I asked him if he was threatening me which he denied and then proceeded to threaten me again telling me we "were sure to run into each other in the future". He then started following me around to continue to threats. After 3 more exchanges a manager told him to quit talking which he reluctantly did storming off out the door of the store (to wait for me in the parking lot?? I halfway expected this). His name is Gene and you can't miss him - he sits at the front of the store. I would caution all customers of this store to be careful how they engage him - while management may or may not approve of his behavior they didn't seem too concerned by it. Wow, I'm a shopper and am used to being disrespected by cashiers but teenage cashiers take the cake. Approached the register with a normal sized order (150) had lots of cases of la croix etc. started unloading and the cashier made no eye contact with me and continued having conversation with her super young bagger..... about her gap year at ivc ..... they kept talking and my groceries were piling up. The bagger was EXTREMELY slow and didn't know proper bagging techniques. I do, been a grocery cashier for 10 years..... so once my order was halfway thru the cashier acknowledged me. Her name is Khianna. While I watched them struggle to bag I started helping because dang- it was necessary. Just so disappointed in their mediocre attempt to perform the very basics of their job. Although I'm new to this Ralph's, I like it already. I went there to purchase flowers and Mojan -their Floral Manager- wrapped the most gorgeous bouquet for me. I should add she was about to clock out when I got there yet she patiently waited, answered my questions and took the time to wrap it for me. She alone is enough for me to go back for my daily grocery shopping. I did attempt to tip her and she politely said she is just doing her job and refused to take it! Not a big fan of this location... The staff is really not very friendly. I had a few gift cards one time, and the cashier asked me if I stole them. First off, stealing a gift card makes no sense, they are not hanging on the shelves loaded with money. So, really? I looked at him, almost speechless, and told him no... If this is the future of grocery shopping then the future is pure Hell. ONE checker to handle the booze sales and the overloaded carts, and ONE overworked assistant to handle the clogged, frenetic "self checkout" bedlam aisle. The scanners do not read through your plastic bags so while dozens of equally impatient shoppers are waiting, bumping you and literally breathing down your neck waiting for a console to open, you are stuck un-bagging EVERY bag of your produce in order to scan it, weigh it and re-bag it. Then you have to wait for the assistant to go to the vault and bring you a precious plastic bag and finish the totaling process. It should not take longer to give them your money than it takes you to fill your cart. And yet it does! Barely half the people are wearing masks, if that, and NOBODY is social distancing anymore. And since Orange County is a "red state," you can bet there are more people in line taking cow de-wormer for COVID than those who are actually vaccinated. Over a year and a half into COVID and I have never felt more at risk of exposure than I just felt shopping at Ralph's. Wouldn't be surprised if a simple trip to any Ralph's will soon be classified as a superspreader event by the CDC. The employees are being screwed and so are the customers. Kroger's Board of Directors have gotta be laughing their asses off. Petty cruelty appears to be their sole purpose for these staggering reductions in services. Plus, there's the money! If you like risking your health and being insulted while you shop for your family groceries, then this is the place to go. It was 9:30 A.M., during a weekday, and not ONE (not ONE) cashier was available. Let's back up: I'm not familiar with this Ralphs and was, unfortunately, in a bit of a hurry because my doctor's office called when I was in the middle of shopping and asked if I could just come in about 15 minutes early. I said, "Okay" thinking that it wouldn't take so long to check out. I asked an older woman (grey/white hair) with bangs if she knew what direction the water was in...to save me a bit of time! Her reply was that I was clearly bothering her and she said "Aisle nmbr X or Y (whatever the nmbrs, not important) where it says 'water' on the sign." (Sarcastic tone.) Gee, sorry to have bothered you!!! The problem was is that I had a LOT of produce in my cart that could've been quickly scanned by a cashier, but when I went to ck-out not one register was open and two of the self-ck out machines were closed...but I still was able to walk straight up to a self check-out. I mentioned to the (older) blonde haired lady, with the dark-rimmed glasses, who was overseeing the self ck-out, AND was the ONLY employee up front, at the time that I've noticed that Ralphs, just over the past month or so, has "really increased their prices (compared to other stores), but yet Kroger does this and makes the customer's do the check-out work". She only replied, "I've worked here for 16 years." I then mentioned, as I was clearly feeling frustrated, that I'm going to (now) be late for my doctor's appt. She stood, shiftlessly, next to me and only replied with sarcasm, "Maybe you should've gone to your doctor appt first." I said, while still looking up a bunch of produce to scan, "I can't because they just called me to have me come in 15 minutes." I understand that her job was to watch for any shoplifters at the self-ck out, but I got the strong feeling that even if there was a spare employee standing next to her that she would not have "dived in" to help me out. Unbelievable...you've got people with a torn rotator cuff (me), plus elderly people, pple who have lifting restrictions and/or lifting compromised and they would have to wait IF an employee were even nearby to do this for them. KROGER: I've had it with Ralphs and their absolutely ridiculously INFLATED prices, total LACK of customer service...and when you do get it, they're "inconvenienced". I used to (PAST TENSE) like Ralphs and made a point of shopping at Ralphs so that Walmart wouldn't continue to hurt them with pricing. I was even willing to pay more to see the cashiers, when we lived in LA county, be able to keep their jobs. I had a bad experience at another one, nearby this location, in self ck-out just three days ago...but not terrible like at this particular location. This has got to be the most frustrating Ralph's in South County! I live right down the street from it but time and time again, they don't carry something I need and I have to end up going to the one in Aliso Viejo Town Center. The latest product they don't carry is Mascarpone cheese. Now a days most grocery stores do carry it. No more. I'm done and I'll just take the extra five minutes to go to the other one. Come on guys! Horrible, downright nasty, rude service from the manager. The short, round one with the Dora hair style. 7pm Sunday night, came in for some groceries and checked out fine with a checker. Although they were out of a lot of things on the shelf. Home calls me for a few more items. I return and notice there are now NO checkers. Find someone rearranging gum on the isle near the registers. I try to get her attention but she ignores me. I finally have to get in her face to get her to answer me. She informs me that everyone "called in sick" so there are no checkers and only self check out is open. Okay, so why send the one that was just here 5 min ago home? Fine, I check myself out only to see that the manager is now waiting on customers only 4 min later. I ask her why she wouldn't help me before and she gives me some BS about being on her break. When I mention that she was stocking things, she snaps that it's "none of My business and she doesn't have to tell me anything... WTF? Meanwhile one of the regular checkers is picking through the produce and another putting bakery items into bulk boxes. The managers disrespectful attitude was completely unacceptable. I had 2 bags of groceries, which I had not ordered, sitting on my landing when I came home. I checked with a couple of neighbors who also had not ordered. I called Ralph near me to request a pickup. Located in Laguna Hills, this particular Ralph's serves the community well. It's one of the major super market located near the exit it Alicia Parkway and across the Laguna Hills Community Center. Very easily accessible! The Kroger Brand is the store brand for Ralph's. It's okay. I don't really recommend their store brand diet COLA, by Big K. The Kroger Brand is the generic for most things such as creamer, toiletries, coffee, and so much more. Its just okay to me. It is very generic tasting. Less quality when compared to Vons/Pavilion brand (signature select, refreshe brand). Probably comparable to the generic brand of Stater Brothers. Well I tend to buy off brand if I can because it can save a few bucks, but if the taste isn't there... I would not buy it, so I haven't been a big fan of their generic brand especially their Kroger Ice Cream. Although I am not buying their brand, they have a wide variety of choices of brand name items! They have weekly specials, which I tend to always look at! The main reason why you will see me here at Ralph's.... Last minute items I forgot to purchase from Cost Co. Customer service here is very nice. Everyone seems to be very very helpful and approachable. One time I did have a bad day with the self check out, and the manager rung up my ice cream on the house because I had to get back in line again, and I lost my patient with the self check out. That was nice. She didn't have to. I basically told her, never again will I go to a nonhuman to check out my items here. ;) Another reason why to continue my shopping here at Ralph's... They support local schools in the neighborhood and they allow the Cub Scouts to sell popcorn during popcorn season! I was treated so poorly by management I've done something I've never done and left a complaint with corporate. I was attempting to load a Netspend card and the cashier did not know how to do it. No big deal, she called a manager. I told her the issue may have been the cash amount, so we could try a smaller amount. When it went through, she said, "I'm not doing it twice." I asked her why they would document themselves as a reload location if they were unwilling to provide the service. She simply told me, "that's your problem, not mine, I can refuse service to anyone." and told me to leave. Unnecessarily rude and disrespectful and I drove across town to another location that was happy to oblige multiple transactions. Shopped here my whole life. I can actually see it! Been buying dry ice for the last couple years for my side business. Always has been 2.50/lb. I guess due to the the pandemic and the anticipated use for vaccines they decided to price gouge it. They're now trying to sell it for almost double the price! $4.50. I was out of choices that day and had no other option. Thought this was illegal to raise prices during a pandemic like that. Sad thing is I just found out Smart and Final has it for 1.79/lb. A person I know that lives in this area once spoke down on this location but it seemed fine to me and looked a lot like the others in the area, with the only issue being that the amount or clearance stuff they had was limited. Because of that I decided not to get much. They had self checkouts and it was processed properly. read more

I guess it's like this with a retail now but I hate that they are so understaffed but if you have an issue or a problem with the check out your pushed through because there's always a line behind you and you feel guilty coming back and pointing it out to the cashier because they're so rushed so several times I've left there knowing that they've overcharged me but it's not worth it to go through the awkwardness and holding all those people love to have them make it right. Sometimes I think they do some of that intentionally by enticing you in with all the special deals where you have to buy a certain number and then their computer doesn't recognize it. Finally writing a review for my local Ralph's that my family frequents about 4-5 times per week for weekly grocery hauls to daily needs. I love this store since I know the layout very well after shopping here for two years straight. I come back here because of a few key people: Checkers - Jason, Warren, the woman with the black straight mid-length hair that works in the mornings (my husband gets along with her). Baggers - There is also a young lady with medium brown hair and shorter man with glasses who usually do bagging that are always very friendly. The manager has never been rude and seems fine. Floral Dept - The flower department woman with dark hair seems so nice to other customers she knows. Deli - The deli guy Amir has become buddies with my husband and the rest of the deli workers are ok, sometimes I wonder why there are tons of customers waiting with multiple workers ignoring them and walking back and forth without acknowledging the other customers but that's something their management needs to address. Some of the workers don't know their own product they have on display which baffles me as well. I feel they should know most of what they are selling and if they have back up inventory in the back. Overall, we love Boar's Head meats and cheeses and get it routinely. Meat/Seafood Dept - There is a large selection of beef and some pork here, I love getting Smart chicken from here but I do often notice that their seafood products & Filet Mignon not looking fresh a lot of times. I always buy Filet and its a hit or miss on how quality it looks. I sometime see it being fatty, opaque or grayish which turns me off especially for a pricier cut of beef. The seafood here doesn't look fresh 98% of the time and it turns me off purchasing it too. I wish their quality for fresh meats and seafood were better and held to higher standards because I don't want to ponder whether my family will get sick from it. I would recommend the Kroger brand pre-marinated ribs in a bag. Those are a secret I'm revealing but I debate on whether I should stay hush about them so they don't run out! Aside from having some meat look less than fresh, they do keep it really organized and I like that. Produce Dept - 99% of their produce is fresh, the Hispanic gentlemen there is super friendly and always greets and says hello to customers. Other workers stocking produce usually keep their heads down and don't interact with customers but that's fine they are working away. On occasion. You will see some bagged lettuce or packaged sliced bell peppers browning a tad but nothing too disgusting. Sometimes berries look a tad on the verge of over ripeness but nothing very bad there either. Dairy - The first year I was coming here, I ended up with expired mozzarella cheese and yes it was my fault for rushing and not checking but it also makes me wonder how often they are truly checking their items, especially things that can really get you sick. Haven't had this issues since but that's because I know am adamant about looking the dates over. Anyway, hope this is enough detail for the rest of you Yelpers. This Ralph's is pretty neat and organized, people up front are the best and friendly for the most part and I enjoy coming here. Pro-Tip: Bring your bags and enter your Customer # for fuel points at Shell stations, comes in handy! They use to have awesome Dunkin Donuts coupons on the back of their receipt which was a steal but don't anymore. Download the Ralph's app and save coupons on it to save more $. Having to use digital coupons in order to get the best price is difficult for many shoppers. We should be able to enter our phone number or swipe our customer card rather than being burdened by our phone in the store. One worker here told me that if it's too difficult for me I just shouldn't use the digital coupons. I guess because I am not computer savvy I should pay more for my groceries.
