Denise Racz, some of you may know her as the clerk at the self checkout, is a gem, and in my time of shopping Raley's Turlock, more than 25 years, always has been. She will go above and beyond for a customer because, well, that's just who she is. LOVE Raley's. Everyone is super friendly/helpful. Their produce is always so fresh and they have a good variety of gluten free/vegetarian stuff. Their rewards system is kind of a joke if you only shop for yourself BUT I do like receiving those coupons in the mail every blue moon. Peet's Coffee can use some work and the WiFi almost never works. Potential to be a good alternative to Starbucks though. Crossing my fingers. read more

Whenever I think of Raley's I think of restrooms, and of the Richland Grocery Store that used to be on Yosemite and Claus, in Modesto. To get to the restroom at Richland you first had to ask where it was, then skulk through the doors that said "Employees Only", then walk past the box crusher that said "Warning - Serious injury or DEATH . . . ' in big letters on the side. I always wondered what a mother would do - a mother with a 3-year old daughter who had to go, "really bad", and an 8-year old son who would fight to his last breath before he would go into a Lady's room. Leave the son outside and pray he didn't wander over to the box crusher? Let the daughter wet herself? Avoid Richland forever, after one visit, and go to a grocery store that CARED about its customers? That Richland has folded. No wonder. Durn fools. In the Raley's store, by marked contrast, the restrooms are marked with letters three feet high on the wall above hallway. You go to them directly from the main part of the store. They are clean and pretty. My hypothetical 8-year old could amuse himself by playing with the drinking fountain just outside while his mother and sister did what they needed to; at worst, if he wandered off, he might mess up the paper back books, which isn't as bad as being crushed to death by a four-ton hydraulic ram. That is one example. There are dozens more. Raley's wants you to be happy. They care about you. On to what else I like. . . . Their wine selection is the best of any grocery store in the county save Safeway and O'Brians. The wine prices beat Food 4 Less, on selected items and selected weeks. Their deli will make incredible sandwiches, although the salmon isn't always available. Their meat and produce are superb. Their bakery is wonderful. I once had to buy 2/3rds of a loaf of potato rosemary bread. It was still warm when I picked it up. By the time I got to the check stand my son and I had eaten a third of the loaf, ripping chunks off with our hands and wishing we had a stick of butter. The prices are bit more than Foods 4 Less, overall, but their quality justifies it. You don't get onions with soft, smelly spots in them at Raley's. What makes me a steady, loyal customer are their people. Ask someone a question and you'll get a quick, accurate response. Samples: Where's the whole bean coffee? Here, let me show you. How do you use all that dill, if you buy an entire bunch? Mince it all and freeze what you don't use that night. (After I learned that,I found that one bunch of fresh dill will supply enough for three or four plates of salmon with lemon dill butter, a couple of dishes of carrots with dill and butter and two dishes of cucumber slices with yogurt and dill. Fresh is SOOO much better than dried . . . ) You seem to be out of the Teriaki salmon fillet? I can fix that. (This was at 7:30 am, when I popped by to get four pounds of fillet for a company potluck. This particular company had a Weber kettle, and three of us had pooled funds to get something a little better than KFC in a bucket. Their fish guy sold me a bottle of marinade, put four pounds of fillet in a big Styrofoam tray, emptied the marinade into it, wrapped it in enough stretch wrap to be impervious to anything short of a kangaroo wearing golf shoes, and said : "Here - keep it in the refrigerator, turn it over every 30-45 minutes until you put it on the grill ." I did. it was superb. What do you put in salsa? I'm not that much of a salsa guy, but hey - Roberto? (Roberto, who also worked produce, gave me the ingredients and general directions. I had guessed tomato and cilantro on my own. I asked Roberto to recommend a pepper that was less intense than the jalapeno; he did. He told me not to forget the garlic, something I would not have thought of on my own. My family still raves.) 98% of the quality of O'Brians, 80% of the cost and the people are just as helpful, if not better. read more

I have always been impressed with how friendly the staff is at Raley's in Turlock CA. There have been days that I went in there to shop in a bad mood, and because everyone is so nice and genuinely helpful it makes me realize we are all just people and we all just wanna live at peace with others. These guys are really going down hill. Used to be one of the best grocery stores around. Now it seems like there's a lot of people that work here don't really want to work. They'd rather stay on their phones and hide behind dividers and stay in the back room than actually come out and help customers. Peet's Coffee has Starbucks coffee stacked up all over its counters. I'm sure that makes Pete happy. lol. Laziest are in the deli can't even open a register. Sell you food that you would sit and eat at their commissary area but they are out of forks, except the boxes on isle 14 they won't go get. Salvation Army volunteers havevto hold up signs that say 'ding dong' cuz the checkers are annoyed by the bell ringing. Well one thing Raley's won't have to be annoyed by in the future, is any of my money. This place sucks! read more

As one of the nicer grocery stores in Turlock (which unfortunately doesn't say much), it's hard to avoid shopping here. Nonetheless, customer service here leaves MUCH to be desired. On one visit there were about 5-6 customers waiting for service at the deli/bakery, but only one clerk was available. The other two were having a chat in the adjacent office. Finally they came out and started to help. On (most) other visits, the cashiers are busier chatting with their friends (whether customer or coworker) than doing their job. There's often a long line and not enough cashiers, and they're not willing to call for backup. I'd like to make this store my one-and-only, but it's so overwhelmingly mediocre, I simply cannot. Learn some customer service, some cashier speediness, and teach your baggers to bag, and I think you'll have happier customers. read more

This is my favorite grocery store and pharmacy. The staff is friendly and the produce is fresh.

I've been going to Raleys for years, they're the only place in Turlock that I know that has a decent sized organic/healthy foods section, Raleys also has a nice sized prepared food section. They have a little cafe inside as well and its a nice place to sit and drink a coffee and do some homework seeing that they do have Wi-Fi. The staff is generally nice and helpful here which is one of the main reasons my family and I keep going back there. read more

Just had Chinese to go inside Raley's and I was pleasantly surprised. I got the chao mein, Kung Lao chicken and zucchini chicken. Everything was really good, better than Panda Express, imo. I got much better service too. The Asian gentleman made me feel appreciated. This is going to be my go to place for Chinese food now. And there's also no line. Highly recommend! read more

OK ... lol... I dont know if I've been pointed out during staff meetings, but the staff here have become way way better at staying quick and efficient at the check out counter. THANK YOU RALEYS :) . Also wanted to give a shout out to the great Deli and Bakery staff. They try their best to give you exactly what you are looking for. The one thing that they don't do and that Publix used to do (and I loved) was that when I asked them to cut a particular deli meat item extra thin, the deli clerk would cut it the way I wanted and then offer me the first slice as a way of checking ... it was always a yummy quality control check! I was in the Turlock, California area during the Christmas holidays at the Ralleys located on Geer road & Monta Vista. While drinking my Peets Coffee at the Kiosk, in the dining area, I asked an employee if I could plug in my laptop and he stated that it was okay, and I did so. I sat at the table closest to the electrical plug which is next to a barrier wall and the microwave, and it was not in the path way so some one could trip on the cord, about 15 minutes later, a young women in her late 30's or early 40's stated that she was the store manger and that I could not plug in my laptop as this was a safety issue. I am former apprentice electrician, and had a head and back injury while an employee of the City of San Jose 1990-1995, I do not see how this could be a safety issue and found this to be a cop out or some one's pet peeve. Starbucks is directly across the street, and allows it's customers to plug in their laptops, I very much like Starbucks, but like to alternate now and then, so I am not a fixture at the store, and like using Raleys and Nobhill, , due to the fact that they offer customers a Microwave and sit down area unlike other food stores, although their food prices are usually much higher in cost, other then on sale items. Please offer customers power outlets when they patron your Peets Coffee kiosks, your store is the only Peets Coffee kiosk in the area, Peets retail stores allow customers to also plug in their laptops. Peet's coffee cafe inside Raley's Supermarket, in Turlock California, is the only Peet's Coffee in the area and is terrible! The employees who prepare the coffee need retraining now!! Cannot be called baristas because they are working in other food service areas until they are called to prepare a cup of coffee. Compared to the excellent coffee I've enjoyed in the Bay Area and San Francisco, this Peet's Coffee cafe is a total miss. Please help ! read more

Normally I love Raleys the deli department sold dried out chicken even after I asked if it looked dried out to the clerk she said It might be a personal choice. She could have been truthful. It was so dry it must have been sitting there all day. They need to hire honest help and pull old dried up food it was my dinner and now I have to go shopping again. Always liked going to Raleys until today when one of their employees was exceedingly rude. Big thumbs down. I will shop elsewhere. Not worth it. When an employee insults a customer in front of other employees and customers, that tells me management is not in control of their staff. I have noticed that Raley's has started to slip in their customer service and it probably has to do with their new union contract. I will never shop there again or any grocery store with union employees. Village Fresh is a better store, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Never again, Raley's, ever. read more

Favorite supermarket in Turlock ! Best selection of stuff, & great produce. A little more expensive then other supermarkets.

My fiancé and I routinely go to Raley's for our groceries. At first the workers seemed pretentious, but after one year they have *finally* warmed up to my fiancé and I (which is strange, since we're very courteous and friendly). On a few occasions workers have commented on our product choices at check out. For example, my fiancé and I are vegan, and we decided to buy a $30 jackfruit to make faux pulled pork! Well, they seemed really keen on the whole idea. Little by little, and over the year, they have inquired to know more about us. They know our dietary choices (our vegan lifestyle), where we attend school, what we're majoring in, and where we work. I admire their inclination of building a rapport with their costumers. More than anything, though, I am so grateful that they offer so many wonderful vegan food choices! We no longer have to travel to Trader Joe's and Sprouts all the way in Modesto. Raley's, you're doing great as an overall business! Thank you for making our college lives easier and our vegan lifestyle affordable and most importantly, tangible! read more

This is typically my location for purchasing groceries. I give 4/5 stars because of three reasons: customer service and checkout service is EXCELLENT. It seems like each worker either loves their job or is just happy to help. Checkout time is "A-OK". The majority of checkouts I use the self checkout. It seems every time I use the self checkout system my machine or someone else's machine locks up; for me, it doesn't correctly weight the item and then locks up. But with all the lock ups, its hard to get the small amount of items checked out quickly. Food availability and freshness is "Yay" I'm a fan." I cant give 5/5 for this because they don't have the variety of products that a Safeway has; but they have just as fresh of produce as Safeway. So its a 4.5/5 for this category. I also particularly like the healthfulness rating system they have on all of their products :) read more

Discontinues popular items, doesn't have a very good selection of carbonated waters, terrible/expensive selection of cut fruit, bulk items are very boring, and little variety of high-end cheeses. Its also a very ugly store. But the customer service there is pretty good and the check-out is always fast. Still, I wish a Nugget would replace it! read more

It's incredibly convenient with busy schedules like mine where I can simply order online and schedule a time for delivery. Its my sons 6th birthday today and I purchased a cake for Raleys. When i went to pick up the cake there was a bit of a misunderstanding. Long story short the manager help resolve the issue I wasn't trying to be rude or saying anything that would hurt anyone's feelings but I expressed my views on the cake and the staff was quick to resolve the problem between the manager on the floor and the manager in the bakery they fixed everything and made the cake look very beautiful highly recommend this establishment and I have received nothing but good service. by the way they have the best cakes around I still have the original buttercream. read more

I grew up with Raley's in Sacramento. I love that store and always will. They are pricier than other grocery stores, but so with it!

So ya, they're a little pricier than some of the other grocery stores here in Turlock, but I think that is made up by the enjoyable experience you can have shopping here. It's clean, bright, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Quick tip, when buying asparagus, ask the produce guys to chop the ends off right there. That way you're not paying for the stuff your going to throw away already. read more

I ordered my daughters birthday cake from the bakery. This was the third cake we've special ordered from here. The first two looked and tasted great. This last one was a bit of a disappointment. The writing on the cake was awkwardly squished on the cake and the overall look of the cake was just okay. My biggest issue was the filling. We chose the vanilla custard filling and it didn't taste very good. It had a strange texture and many of our guests didn't eat it. Next time I will think about ordering from some place else. read more

I shop here on and off but feel that some of the employees are snooty. Today i walked into Raley's to break my 20 dollar bill.....FIRST the cashier looked me up and down , then said sorry you have to buy something. WHAT??? Im not stupid,and i have done this many times before. I am also a 43 year old woman, not a child!!! I was so mad that i walked out of the store and called CUSTOMER SERVICE i asked if i had to buy something to make change and she said NO. Im never shopping there again!!! Love our Raleys. Prompt & friendly service, splendid variety, always clean. Problem that I've had lately tho is with the bakery cupcakes. Over the last 6 months or so, they're cold as if thawed out - chilled to the point of stiffness, cake is very dry & pretty tasteless, & frosting is lardy in texture, too icky sweet & artificial tasting & smelling. Using different ingredients now? Shipped in & not freshly baked? I don't know. They look pretty but taste yucky. Frosting is my fave part & I actually scraped it off after one bite. The kids didn't even finish eating them. Haven't had this problem with cakes I've ordered there, which always seem fresh & taste great. But PLEASE do something about your cupcakes. My last purchase I actually threw the lot into the trash after trying one of them & had to purchase elsewhere last minute. Thanks! read more

Really disappointed in the treatment I am receiving from the majority of the staff at this store lately. Unhelpful and ignore you at the various ready-food counters, however, when I end up in the self-checkout line to pay, they treat me like I am a shoplifter, regardless of the fact that I am using my rewards card number which has all my personal info attached to it and probably shows my purchase history of thousands of dollars per year. Bizarre to ignore a loyal customer when they need help then jump all over them in a nosy manner when they are ready to pay and leave. Perhaps it's because I'm several months pregnant and have to wear oversized clothes lately which causes them to profile me? or maybe because I'm not wearing the standard beadazzled Turlock Women's Uniform complete with bumpits hairdo and more makeup than needed for a Broadway performance so I'm not recognized as a legitimate person? Not sure, but I guess it's truly on par with the rest of Turlock's local businesses so I shouldn't be surprised. Bad customer service is the norm around here. read more
