Rajun Cajun's samosas are the best I've had. The sweet sauce is a nice complement to the savoriness of the samomas. I also really enjoy their spinach paneer. I've had this dish at other places where I'd experienced a slimy texture or bitter taste. You don't get that here. However I do with the portion size was larger for the price. Overall, a nice place in Hyde Park for Indian food. It's a bit pricey for a carry-out lunch but very tasty.

A solid Indian Option for the Hyde Park Area. Thought the name is a bit "misleading" I was pleasantly Suprised many many years ago when I first visited this spot looking for Cajun food. My favorite are the Currie Potatoes (Aloo) and you can't go wrong with the vegetarian meal combo!! I always end up adding EXTRA sides... because I always want EVERYTHING!

An interesting fusion of foods: soul food and Indian. I only tried their Indian food and was happy with it. I got the Tandoori Chicken combo meal for $16 and thought it was worth the price because of the large serving size so I would recommend that. Also, all their meat is halal. As far as I know, this is the only Indian restaurant in Hyde Park.

Not the best but the food was okay here and tasted nice. Prices are also reasonable and have plenty of options on the menu. I would recommend this restaurant.

I came here for the first time in a while. I usually do Uber eats but it was a nice day. It was a Saturday as usual so I opted for the weekly fish dinner, which came with samosa, parotha and 2 sides (one with peas, one with spinach) and a side of peach cobbler. The fish was HOT but not overwhelming, in a great tomato base sauce. Everything else was ok except the peach cobbler. I am always just ok with it; maybe too much nutmeg/cloves, and the peaches seemed brownish. But the space looks great since the renovations, clean and bright, but since I don't dine in I can't speak to comfort or restrooms, etc. I always liked the postcards wallpaper of citizens who leave or travel and write back!

We came on Christmas Eve and were surprised that they were even open. The food is kept hot behind a counter and you choose what you want, with different combos on the menu. I got the lamb curry combo with cauliflower curry, vegetable samosa, and paratha. My friend got the fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese. I liked what I got, the lamb was tender and the samosa was tasty. The cauliflower dish was watery and thin though, and the paratha didn't taste fresh. My friend said she liked her food. Overall, not super blown away but a decent place in the area. 3.5 stars.

I was a little confused when I arrived since I thought this might be a Southern food restaurant but it was more Indian in presentation: but they do have "Soul Food" as well. I opted for the Indian, it was a little unclear how their process worked since they were minimally communicative about things, I ordered and they walked in the back and I just waited a bit, but after a while it was clear this might take longer so I approached the cashier to pay and then timidly went to sit down since I was not sure what was going to happen next. Several minutes later the food was ready, it was good and spicier than I imagined (if I had the choice I would have requested less spicy, but they didn't have a spice level request). Limited seating but it wasn't too crowded. There is a huge counter separating the cashier and the customer which was a little confusing since you don't know if you should get hear it or not. Logistics/flow/service were not friendly to new customers but now that I know what to do they are great.

I was honestly so pleasantly surprised by this place. I've been trying to find an Indian restaurant…read morethat compares to the ones back home in Georgia, and Maharaj definitely came close. For lunch especially, the quality and portion sizes are amazing for the price. The service was extremely friendly and welcoming. It truly feels like a family-owned restaurant, and the staff consistently checked in on our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. We ordered a variety of dishes. My favorite by far was the chicken tikka masala - rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. The tandoori chicken, however, was just average to me; it was a bit overcooked and lacked flavor. I also really enjoyed the Josh Rogan and the mango lassi, both of which were great. The ambiance is nice and comfortable, but the wait can be quite long, so keep that in mind. Despite the wait, this has become my go-to spot when I'm craving Indian food. Great value, warm service, and mostly excellent food make it worth returning.

Food is below-average, service is good, and the ambience is bland and unappetizing…read more I am beyond surprised that this restaurant receives such great reviews when there is better Indian food in the city. To start with, my dining companion and I ordered the gobi manchurian, which was delicious. As a native Bangalorean, I take my gobi manchurian seriously, and was quite impressed with Maharaj's iteration (since then, I think they may have removed the Gobi Manchurian from the menu: it was great while it lasted!). My companion and I assumed that the stellar gobi would herald an even more incredible main course, but were quickly proven wrong. The malai kofta was insipid and texturally confusing. The gravy was tasteless and the kofta balls were simultaneously both chewy and crumbly. Listen: I love malai kofta, because as the name suggests, cream is the central ingredient. It is sometimes possible to paper over deficiencies in a malai kofta with extra cream, but alas, that was not the case here. It was close to inedible. The naan tasted like grocery store frozen naan: even Trader Joe's makes better naan. The bhindi masala was oily and not too flavourful. We did not dare order more at that point. On the plus side, our server, whose first day on the job it was, was super sweet. He made sure we were well-looked after, and gave us complimentary masala chai. The chai was lukewarm and overly milky, with little fresh masala. The decor consists of stereotypically Indian art of dubious quality. The seats were comfortable, and the restaurant was filled with South Asian people, which usually bodes well for an Indian restaurant. I continue to be baffled by that. It's entirely possible that it was just a bad day for the chef, but I don't think I want to risk another visit. Overall, as much as I want to support Indian restaurants in the city, I cannot in good faith recommend Maharaj.

We kept it simple with water for drinks and ordered the chili chicken as an appetizer. It leaned more tomatoey than spicy, with a mild heat level, but still really tasty. For mains, we got the Chicken Madras and Khasi ko maasu (Nepali goat curry), both served with white basmati rice. We also ordered the bread basket, which came with naan, garlic naan, and onion naan. Everything paired really well together, super satisfying with both the rice and naan. The server asked about our preferred spice level for the goat curry, and we chose regular. It actually wasn't spicy at all, which worked perfectly for us. Our total came out to around $80, which felt like a great deal considering how much food we had left over, we packed everything up and basically got dinner out of it too. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for something flavorful but still relaxed. Would definitely come back!
