We got takeout from Rainpia. Right when I walked in to get my food, I knew I would love this place. It reminded me of a Korean pub and they even had iPads to order off of. The food was ready early when I got there. Everything was a knockout. I've never had a Korean rice ball but it was stuffed with bulgogi. If you have never had that def go for it! I was very excited to try Rainpia since it was recommended by a local. Made it to the restaurant around 6:30 PM on a Friday, and there was already a waitlist for the booths. There is also a large table in the middle which does not require any waiting. It's great that they have these options based on your preference and availability. We were seated in around 45 minutes at this large/comfy booth. The restaurant has a cool homey vibe with so much space, friendly servers and guests just seem to be having a great time. We ordered Tteokbokki and Spicy Fried Chicken along with some Soju. For spice level, we picked 2 out of 4. I am a person with high spice tolerance and this was right at my upper limit-I wouldn't recommend a higher level unless you enjoy playing with fire. Unfortunately, the food in general was a little disappointing. Nothing terrible but I guess I've had better korean food in the area. Our servers were very sweet; they made a mistake with the bill but fixed it even before we notified them and apologized very nicely. You stop in and add your name to the list if its packed. Expect to be seated in 30-60 minutes depending on the day. On the weekends, you have to order food vs only drinking. Prices are pretty reasonable for the drinks. My friends and I ordered the chicken gizzards, Korean chicken wings, galbi ribs and and tuna rice balls. I would highly recommend ordering the the gizzards, galbi and rice balls. They were all delicious. Especially the gizzards. Fried and seasoned perfectly. The wings were ok and I don't know if I would make my way out here for them. The location itself is right off the main road. When you enter seating can be really tight. There is K Pop blasting and servers running every where. Restaurant is clean and the servers are attentive. If you want a place that does not have very high noise level then Rainpia is not it. Also, when ordering be mindful of the spice level. Level 3 which is considered a hot already had me sweating. Overall, fun place to grab some drinks and get some snacks. Did I just find my new favorite Korean restaurant?!? One of my fav influencers spoke highly of this place so I had to try it. Lots of parking in the lot and when we arrived on a Saturday night at 7, it wasn't crowded. We had a nice big table to ourselves and we're told to ring the buzzer on the table when we were ready. There are about 8 large tables on the sides of the restaurant and then a long table with more communal type seating in the middle. When we got there, there were plenty of tables but they quickly filled up. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! We started with the Korean rice balls with bulgogi filling-10/10 absolutely delicious. I would return for just these alone, but the good food kept coming. I loved the spicy tteokbokki with ramen! So spicy and delicious, it's one of my fav Korean dishes and this was so well made. Next we had friend chicken in sauce. They were good, but I couldn't necessarily name the part of the chicken I was eating for the three pieces I had. We ordered the yogurt soju cocktail and it was delicious-though arrived about midway through our meal. I came here because of a video I saw on Tik Tok for the best Korean fried wings in the area. I ended up in a strip mall where every business had a sign in both English and Korean. This is always promising because you know the food and area is going to be authentic. Inside is a little tight and you are sat at large wooden benches that have buttons to call your server with. When we went for dinner it was empty but the place filled up rather quickly. The service is super fast thanks to those handy bells. The wings themselves were fantastic. The sauce they came with is SUPER sticky, you could probably do home repairs with it. The size of the wings left a little to be desired but it was plenty to fill me up. Among the various Korean establishments down the route 40 strip, Rainpia would be considered a low-key comfort food cafe. Lined with wooden floors and walls, the restaurant feels very warm and inviting the minute you walk in. Down the middle of the restaurant is a long counter with stools on each side The fried chicken is the main attraction here but there are plenty of of other comfort food too. personally like their kimchi pancake the most but the seafood is a close second. 3.8.22 This was one of the Korean restaurants in Ellicott City on my list to try. The restaurant is in a Korean shopping center. They do not have an exit directly onto Baltimore National Pike. You have to go around the back of the shopping center onto a side road to get onto the Pike. It's smaller than other Korean restaurants I've been to. There was one long table in the center of the restaurant with approx. 8 chairs on each side and five booths on each side of the long table. They conveniently have a call button at each booth if you need service. My husband didn't know and pressed the button, which startled us. We started by placing an order for the Seafood Pancake. The octopus was more intact whereas at other restaurants it was chopped or were more fine. We placed our entree orders and were given cabbage salad and pickled daikon for the banchan (small side dishes). I got the Half & Half Chicken. I recommend the Original Fried Chicken. It was piping hot and extra crispy. The other half I got with the Signature Sweet Sauce. At first I thought it was ok, but after awhile it grew on me and I enjoyed the flavor. It was hard to decipher between the breast and thighs. They both looked equivalent in size and shape. My husband got the Korean Style Hot Wings and thought it good, however, later in the evening he had indigestion. The chicken and chicken wings were slathered in sauce unlike at BonChon. A month ago, I found out about this place from my daughter. Didn't even know this place existed and I have lived in Howard county for over 20 years. As you can see, I am not much of a bar person. Now I have been to every restaurant around this place but never thought about it. A month ago, my wanted some chicken. So I ordered some food from our usual place and then on the way over there to pick it up, I stopped by and talked to the owner's son and put in an order for their boneless chicken to go. After picking up the usual food, I came back and picked up the boneless chicken from here. I don't know if it was because it got cold and the shrinkage factor, the boneless chicken was pretty sad. I air fried it to heat it up but it didn't help. I thought about putting in a review of that experience but thought that it would be unfair to base it on just one dish under not ideal conditions. So I didn't. Well, this week, a group of friends wanted to come here for drinks and food and I readily agreed. Wanted to give it a proper chance. As you can see from the photos, the place is not that large but with the long table in the middle, it can adapt to a lot of people in a group. This time the food was really really goof. Everyone loved all the chicken dishes. I would say the half and half chicken is probably the best dish they have. I could use a much spicier sauce personally but it suited everyone else just fine. The food came out in a timely manner and it was great. The one thing that I would say they can improve upon is that I didn't see any Korean beers on the menu. Just had Sapporo beer. No draft beers either. I know it's a Korean bar but it is still a bar and beer variety is a must. People want what they want when it comes to beer. However I was bit disappointed with the quality and price of the food. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and seated right away. We decided to order some fried dumplings, half/half chicken (regular/sweet), seafood pancake and spicy chicken and potato soup (no rice given). Out of all the food we ordered, only thing that tasted good was the soup. All other food items were just meh so not sure where all these good reviews are coming from. All the food seemed pricey for the quality and the amount given, especially the seafood pancake was $14 for which looked like 5-6 inch across. I had a really really bad experience here. Extremely bad service and the staff here can barely comprehend English. We ordered wings, Kim chi fries and the seafood pancakes. A whole hour went by before our fries and wings came and even the soju margarita we had ordered. They didn't seem to care either despite how tired we were and how much they ruined our mood. Eventually someone came out and said he would give us a free noodle soup for our inconvenience, but they even got that wrong! One of my formerly favorite Korean Pubs brought down by bad service. Rainpia is a Korean Pub, serving up Korean street foods and junk foods with copious amounts of beer and soju. Don't expect anything healthy on the menu. When I asked a server if they offered any veggies, they pointed to the kimchi fried rice, which is still fried with oil and covered in gooey eggy goodness. Rainpia features two must-haves for every visit. The first is their fried chicken. Their fried chicken comes with bone-in and boneless variety, consists only of dark meat, and served with a variety of flavors from sweet, to salty, to spicy. The chicken is audibly crispy, and the sauce protects the roof of your mouth from getting shredded to bits. If you want more carbs than protein, then look at their second must-have, rice cakes. These little nuggets of glutenous rice flour are cooked in a sweet and spicy sauce, often accompanied by some other flavor enhancer such as fish cakes or cheese. If you've never had a rice cake, they are soft and chewy on the inside, and bouncy on the outside. It's impossible to eat just one. One major issue I had with a recent Rainpa experience involved their to-go service. I ordered their Army Stew, a spicy mix of meat, vegetables, and noodles. When I came to pick up my order, the stew was stored in a metal tin, something thin and flimsy that would normally be used to bake something in an oven before throwing it out. The metal tin was placed in a thin cardboard box. Before I even got to my car, the hot soup began spilling out of a crack in the tin container and leaked through the cardboard. I returned and asked if I could have a new soup with a new container. A minute later, the staff returned with the same damaged container with the same soaked cardboard box, but now loosely wrapped in a trash bag. I asked if this was a new dish and if they had anything better to store it. They said it's a new soup and this was the best transport option they have. I took the soup and carried it to my car. I had the soup on my lap to keep it steady and my legs started to seer in pain. The soup had leaked through the trashbag, which I noticed wasn't even sealed. I went back to Rainpa, and asked for a new soup. They asked me for my old soup. I handed it over, half the contents having been spilt on my pants. A minute later, they brought me two plastic containers with soup sealed inside and tightly wrapped with a plastic bag. Wondering why they didn't do this in the first place, I took it home, only to open the containers and notice they were half empty, leaving me to believe they never bothered replacing the soup. In short, I payed for an Army Stew and got a half-missing stew that stained my pants and burned my legs. Never during this exchange did I get an apology or admission of fault. Rainpa is good if you plan on going in person with friends, but don't do takeout or you'll risk poor packaging and servers who don't care once you leave the restaurant. read more

I will say since I have moved out of the area I haven't had the chance to go as frequently. With that, I believe it has changed management and I was highly disappointed. We got there pretty late around midnight which anywhere between 8/9-close, they do get pretty busy and luckily there was a table so we got seated right away. The prices haven't changed much and just know that it is OVERPRICED. The portions were so small too for what you pay. Rice cake isn't expensive and while they charged almost $18 I felt like we were scraping at the end to find any thing else to eat. If you have a PA system and try to use it for an outdoor concert and the skies open and ruin your electronic equipment and sound system, that's called a "Rain-PA." And if you have a father who only comes out during thunderstorms, that's a "RainPa." And if you like to pick up lots of girls (or boys) (or both) in Washington State and Oregon, you're a "RainPlaya." This is not those. My notes said: Army soup was ok, I think it's army soup I don't like not this place. Open very late, lovely decor, nice service, but ugh annoyed about the pricing I got ripped off to some degree here because what I ordered was a small version of something and then they told me (only when the check came) they only serve it in large (menu said otherwise) and I ended up paying double what I intended. It was a pretty damn big bill for a bowl of soup or whatever, even if it is an elaborate and huge Army Soup. They are open late night which was really good. The taste was good, as far as AS goes, but I don't really like this particular type of soup that I ended up getting. I wish I would have had something else, but the menu was a little unusual. I definitely couldn't give it more than a 4, and I was tempted to give it a 3, but I support local places, and the fact that it's open late at night when nothing else is, is definitely a big advantage. Bulgogi rice balls had a savory kick with crispy rice. Kimchi and egg fried rice had some spice that gave a little kick. Finally, the fried chicken was super crispy and had a balanced sweet and spicy sauce. Split all four dishes between the three of us and had plenty of leftovers. read more
