Hello, My name is Nancy Harper-Eich and we have a propery in Hinsdale. My husband has been using Rainmakers for years. Sadly, they are now under different ownership and it is now a completely different company. Do not do business with Rainmakers. I asked for an itemization of what exactly they were charging my 1,782 dollars for...never happened. All I need was a water pump installed. Then they told me I needed to hire an electrician. How foolish since the pump started it just was not working properly. Two pumps later and it still is not operational. Ed finally told me I had a choice, keep the pump that did not work or refund my money. Nice business. Terrible people skills. My husband passed away from pancreatic cancer... I'm single mom with three kids, guess Ed thought I was a fooolish woman who knows nothing about running a house and he took full advantage of my situation. I did get partial refund and have no working pump. I'll look forward to talking with my neighbors for recommendaions irrigation businnesses that demonstrate professionalism, ethics and competence. Just terrible. Additinally, i was told that I could not get an itemization of work becasue it was proprietary information. It was my error in blindly truting this company. Ed is now sharing the only reason I did not get it was becasue they do not work on weekends. Ok Ed, its the weekday, I'll expect that itemization, Priveledged? Yes, as this community knows my husband and I got into teaching forthe money and fame. Our house is the result of a combined 63 years of services to the HInsdale and Glenview communties. Period. Well, the only contact I received was through Yelp messages. I did get a refund minus the $25. They lost a customer and don't care. As a small business owner, you make it right ~ what's $25 to do the right thing? Despite my extensive education in their company policies, the "Hello, my name is Brenda from Rainmakers Irrigation. I am calling to remind you of your service call tomorrow requiring someone over 18 to be present. If this no longer works for you, we can be contacted at (phone number) " call NEVER happened. (Despite company policies) However, this probably worked in my favor because I found a most friendly, dependable company to servie my sprinkler system. read more

This used to be a good company about 15-20 years ago. Now they act like they are doing the customer a favor for even taking their telephone call! Never return calls. And scheduling service is impossible. I called early March for turn on service and they told me the only time they could come to Bolingbrook was in late June! I asked if there were any alternatives and they said find a different irrigation service!! read more

Our over 20 years of experience with Rainmakers has been nothing but great. I'm very sorry to hear the negative responses as nothing similar has ever happened. In fact, moments ago I signed the 2022 Service Agreement and it will be in the mail on Tuesday. Techs arrive promptly and are very well trained. Additional zones have been added or modified over the years and again the response and service to modify has been great. I called this business to get an estimate to install 4 new zones on my existing system. This is approx a 2 to 3 thousand dollar job. They told me they would charge me for a service call to simply offer a price for the work and were quite rude on the phone. I would avoid them. They're are plenty of other providers in the area that are happy to offer a price to earn your business. 5/12/21: Editing my review based on the owners response. The response was not accurate to my inquiry and I don't appreciate the business I considered giving my business to publicly questioning my integrity. I was very clear on the additional zones and asked for clarification on why I would be charged for an estimate. The response was that is the policy. Homophobic experience. A neighbor was using this company. I walked past the home to pick up lunch, and a crew member said in Spanish: "a lot of f**s walk past here." I was absolutely shocked. He said this while their crew truck was parked right out front, with the company name and phone number largely displayed. I called in this complaint and the woman on the line was very sorry and clearly very shocked - she represented the company well and is why I'm giving a second star. Zero Star -- Buyers Beware ! I hired Rainmakers Irrigation & Maintenance of Romeoville IL to install a brand new 13 zone irrigation system in the fall of 2017. One of the (outdoor) in-ground control manifold box with 5 zone controllers had a terrible leak that would flood the underground box which also resulted in high monthly water bill. Mentioned leaks to the Rainmakers service technician in the Spring of 2018 who came in for irrigation turn-up service, the technician tighten something and reported it was fixed. The irrigation system was not used (turn on) for the next two (2019 & 2020) years. Fast forward to the Spring of 2021, upon turning on the irrigation system and noticed the same in-ground manifold box was full of water again. Called the Rainmakers and the company claimed it is now under new ownership since the initial installation and 2017 & 2018 maintenance period, therefore, is not responsible for any defects incurred under the previous owner. I tried to explain to the person on the phone that I hired the "Rainmakers" company not a specific "owner" to performed the installation and to maintain the irrigation system, the installation and the fix turned out to be "defective". How could an average homeowner possibly know the fix did not repair the initial defect? The Rainmakers person insisted there is nothing she can do. Bottom line, Rainmakers Irrigation & Maintenance of Romeoville will not take responsibility for any defects for its irrigation system installation or maintenance. Buyers beware! Update: To Rainmakers Irrigation & Maintenance of Romeoville IL, when I spoke to the person on the phone today, she did bring up Rainmakers has not been to my residence after the 2018 season and therefore can not be responsible for any work performed on the irrigation system. I proceed to tell her that the irrigation had not been turned on for the past two years and offered to provide proof of waivers of RPZ annual checkups that I had sent to the village. Her answer? We are under new ownership and no, we can not do anything for you on this, but you can schedule a service call for $95 plus $95/hr for any repair services rendered. Let me be clear, the defect (flooding of the manifold in-ground box) was discovered by Rainmakers' technician the following season (during Spring turn-up) of the installation of the irrigation system. Rainmakers technician reported it was fixed at that time, NOBODY (myself included) had ever touched the irrigation system since Rainmakers installed and subsequently maintained last. Keep in mind that there is no ZERO star on Yelp, so a little over 1 out of 5 star rating speak volume. I am not at all concerned about if Yelp readers will regard or disregard my personal experience with Rainmakers of Romeoville IL. I am certain that Yelp readers are wise enough to draw their own conclusions. Make no mistake, I am utterly dissatisfied with the installation and maintenance services that I have received from this business, absolutely will not use or recommend it to anyone. read more

I had the best service from Rainmakers. Jose was the technician who came to turn on the system and replace several sprinkler heads. He did an amazing job and was extremely polite and knowledgeable. We recently sold our Plainfield Il home after 6 years. During that 6 year period and 7 summers we utilized Rainmakers for our sprinkler service annually. They handles spring turn on fall turn off without issue. Scheduling appointments was easy and the appointments were kept without issue. Living in Illinois the winters would cause sprinkler head damage frequently an they repaired those without issue at each turn on as needed. During COVID, the workers always arrived with a mask as they had to enter the home to turn water on/off. I highly recommend Rainmakers for your sprinkler servicing and I am surprised at the reviews online as none of those experiences occurred with our servicing. Do not hesitate to use them. read more

Had RPZ valve replaced. Asked for a bid for sprinkler head work and broken lines in back yard. Instead I got a bill for spring turn on as well as a bid for repairs . Went with their bid sprinkler heads installed elevated. Told all sprinkler heads were replaced they were not. Took a valve control cover off in the back yard and never put it back still gone. Sprinkler system till this day after told that all was working still does not work. Paid a lot money for poor quality craftsmanship and a system that still doesn't work completely. Called a different company to repair. Office manager is even worse to deal with than the field people who want to come back and have you pay them cash to do the work on the weekends instead of go through the company. I wish I could give zero stars. If for some reason you end up hiring Rainmakers (which I would not recommend doing), I advise you to get every single detail in writing. We had never used them, but our contractor for other work set up a quote with them to fix some irrigation in the backyard from patio work we had done. The original quote (this part in writing), also included system startup ($200) to check the existing heads and adjust them as they went. While out here for that work, they supposedly found 32 heads that were broken and would be an additional cost (we had about 20 heads replaced a couple years ago through another company, so I was skeptical). I asked for a quote for this additional work, which for some reason seemed to surprise the repairman. He said he would call his boss, Ed, and check. He then gave me a verbal quote of $1000 to fix the 17 fixed heads and 15 rotating heads. I calculated based on previous dealings that it was probably $300 for parts, $700 for labor, and decided to give the go-ahead after discussing the numbers with my husband as he was going to fix them right then. I confirmed with the repairman that it would be $1000. I had appointments to get to that afternoon and left after a little while. When I arrived home, he said he was done and left. I had no opportunity to check the system and he told me with all the rain lately to leave it off. The very next day, I received a voicemail asking for payment for the repairs and giving me a price $500 higher than what was quoted. Just a voicemail - no invoice, no breakdown of the charges, nothing in writing. I had no opportunity to check the system and was not willing to pay until I could do so the following week. I called and left a message that I would need an invoice with the breakdown and they seemed put off. They begrudgingly sent it with the additional $1000 job now $1500, which also included $200 for system start-up (that was already supposedly included in my original separate quote). I called and Ed argued with me yelling he KNOWS he said $1500 and that's what his repairman said - even though Ed was not on the phone at the time I was given the $1000 price that I repeated back to the repairman and he confirmed. The level of unprofessionalism is astounding. I have received many verbal quotes from repairmen over the years and have NEVER had this happen before - they have always stuck to their quotes. I wish I had recorded everything said. When I mentioned the double-charge for system start-up, he went back and took that $200 overcharge off because it was in writing in both places. I received the invoice with a due date on it of June 16. I mailed the check last week on May 30 and got an extremely unprofessional and hostile voicemail today, June 6, demanding payment and saying they had not received it as of today. He also had the audacity to say he "gave me" $200 off - the same $200 that he tried to charge me twice for system start-up! I had left a note on the payment stating I would not use their services again nor would I recommend them. I called a couple hours after the voicemail to inform them that I mailed the payment last week (including the $300 overcharge and over 18 days prior to the invoice due date), and he said that yes, they did indeed receive it with my note and wanted to discuss it. I did not think there was much discuss if he was not willing to stand by the original verbal quote. He insisted that they could not have done that work for $1000, so I must have misunderstood them. Any misunderstanding should have been corrected prior to work and when I repeated the $1000 quote back to the repairman twice. (Once initially to give the quote to my husband and once when I was agreeing to the work). I probably should have fought harder over the $300, but this time it was worth overpaying not to have to deal with them anymore or go to court. Also, the address listed on yelp is different from the Romeoville one I have, but the phone number is the same so I am reasonably sure it is the same place. read more

I had been a long term customer for several years only to watch their service steadily decline. Imagine that I was a regular customer and could not get service, when they did respond and set an appointment they did not show up as promised. Lastly, when they did finally show up a week later they left early before getting all the work done. We were promised that they would stop and finish the work. They never have showed up again. The work that was performed was shoddy, inconsistent and they overcharge for their low quality work. I am writing this so that everyone has a warning to stay away from this incompetent firm. read more

They cancelled my appointment to come fix a broken sprinkler head (that their guy didn't notice in the first place when he tested during the spring turn on of the system) because their worker was running ahead of schedule so wouldn't be in my area during the time window they originally promised me. Read the other comments re horrible customer service and believe them. They installed my system several years ago. The original installation was fine, however, I had poor experience with subsequent service/repairs. They don't return calls; you have to track them down. Then they will schedule an appointment for an estimate and not show up. This is why I quit using them a few years ago. I heard ownership changed and thought I would give them another try. Once again, no return call. Had to call back and got completely different info about a repair project than the previous call. Told it would take a month and a half to get an estimate. If you are doing a new install, I highly recommend someone else. When the time comes for repairs, and it will, they will leave you high and dry (no pun intended, but true). Made an appointment almost a month in advance with a timeframe between 1 and 6 p.m. (which is a long window of time to wait for service). I made arrangements to work at home that day and the technician never showed up. I called their office which ended up being an answering service and was told I would get a call back the next day. I did talk to someone the next day and they offered to reschedule me three weeks later. At which point I told them it was unacceptable to wait a month and then wait another three weeks.
