After reading reviews, I'm glad this interaction happened and I walked away without adopting. This play clearly doesn't actually care about the "animals in need" and is only after money. I heard there were cat/kitten adoptions at Petsmart today so decided to stop in and see who was available for adoption! There were a few cages set up with cats and one with a few kittens. The foster with the kittens was friendly and started answering basic questions about the kittens but the actual rescue employees sat in the back corner avoiding everyone. Should have been red flag number one. I tried to ask about the cats in the windows (the ones always at Petsmart) he was stand off ish about it so I just went and looked through the glass. Then the guy (employee that actually does adoptions) went on break and left the foster alone. Lots of rescues and shelters either offer military/veteran discounts or offer a program called Pets4Vets. My husband is a veteran so when the guy came back we decided to ask if they do anything like that. He was immediately rude, scoffed at me and said "Not when I pay $260 to process each one and sell them for $175."First off, if you don't want to offer a discount that is completely your prerogative and it's everyone else's prerogative to ask if you offer one. Why is that so offensive to ask?! Secondly, you could have just politely said "No, we don't offer any discounts" and that would've been fine! I was so flabbergasted by his attitude that I just said "Ya know what, that was super off putting, I actually don't want your cats." And walked away. I got back to the car to look up this rescue because I'd never heard of them and there's no way regular rescues would treat possible adopters that way! I see that they have the worst reviews for adopting out SICK cats!!! Review after review about people spending thousands on vet bills after adopting from them on every platform. Please do NOT adopt from RAIN. They do NOT care about their animals or who adopts them. They just want money! Take your money to one of the MANY other rescues or shelters available in the valley and stop this "rescue" completely. They don't deserve to save animals. read more

Such a disappointing animal "rescue". My husband and I are looking to adopt a kitten. We should meet all of the "criteria"...we work from home, have no young children, the kitten would be indoor only, etc. Our beloved cat was with us for 20 years before passing and we were finally ready to adopt another forever pet. We looked over their website, filled out the application and waited 7days only to receive an email rejected our application because we are looking to adopt ONE kitten and evidently their policy is to only approve adoptions of pairs. It's a shame that they don't think that is an important point to put on their website or application. I love RAIN. I've worked with them as a foster for a few group of kittens now, and I can say that the people who work here are truly are amazing. They love animals and it shows... from the easy vet booking process to the effort they put into adoption... it's a joy to work with them! I've worked with a couple of organizations with kitten litters (Scottsdale and Queen Creek) and have been treated kind of rudely and dispassionately (like a number)... but RAIN has been authentic and caring. Meeting other fosters, it's clear their experience is also great and they care about animals too. I finally found a great organization! Don't hesitate to adopt from them if you find the kitty or dog that tugs at your heart, they really take good care of our animals! Thanks RAIN : ) read more

My husband and I were looking for a cat and happened to stop into the PetSmart on Chandler Blvd and 101. There was a mom and daughter cleaning and playing with the cats so we took advantage of them being available and couldn't of been happier in our decision. The mother daughter duo who helped up fill out the application and start the adoption process were absolutely amazing. They were quick to help and they definitely take extra measures to make sure all the kitties go to a good home. I would definitely recommend adopting from RAIN again it was a wonderful experience UPDATE:Our kitty unfortunately has feline herpes. A flare up happened shortly after we brought her home. Unfortunately it is something she will always have but can be controlled with vitamins and a healthy diet. According to our vet they have seen many cats from RAIN RESCUE come in with feline herpes. Please be aware when adopting your cat if the other cats in the adoption center have sneezing,goopy or runny eyes. I would still have adopted my cat but I feel bad that I was not prepared right away to take care and make her feel comfortable. read more

Big mistake. We will adopt again in the future, but definitely not from RAIN. Nothing but a poor experience from the start. We already had one cat for a year and decided it was time to get her a friend. We decided to adopt through RAIN. We met at the PetSmart in Chandler where they gave us our kitten. He is an absolute sweetheart and we love him to death, but he came with many completely avoidable, expensive, and irritating problems. Vet bill #1. The eye infection. We noticed this right away, and asked if it was contagious out of worry for our other cat. The foster mom assured us he had been on antibiotics for weeks and that he was no longer contagious. She even gave us eye drops and showed us how to apply them. We took him home and by the evening his eye was looking MUCH worse. We became very worried and thankfully decided not to give him any more of the medicine. After texting the foster mom, it turns out she had never given him that medicine before. It was actually prescribed to a different cat. The morning of the adoption she couldn't find the correct meds and gave us a different tube because she "didn't want to send him home with nothing". He obviously had a very bad reaction to the medicine and we had to go to the vet to get the correct stuff. It's also worth mentioning that Marlo, the director of the organization tried to talk us out of going to the vet and asked if she could drop off some eye drops that had been prescribed to one of her cats for an eye infection. We obviously declined, because that is exactly the behavior that caused the reaction in the first place. Do these people not learn? Vet bill #2. Our other cat caught the "non-contagious" eye infection. Vet bill #3. The kitten has ringworm. Not only that, but he gave it to our other cat and both of us. We have spent at least $100 on shampoos and washes, not to mention the hassle of bathing both cats regularly and washing our bedding and clothes every day. Our power bill has gone up considerably from running the washer every day. We adopted just before Christmas 2018. As of writing this it is late March 2019 and we are still struggling with the ringworm. We have spent well over $500 in vet bills, medicated shampoos, etc., all for issues that this cat already had before we adopted, or as a result of neglect by the foster. We also paid a $150 fee to RAIN just to adopt him, which we asked to have returned to us. The answer was yes, but a check was never sent. After a month of waiting and receiving nothing, we reached out again and they said they sent a check, but would cancel it and send another. We finally received a check, but only for half the correct amount ($75 instead of $150). I reached out one last time and Marlo informed me "that's weird, but I don't write the checks". We're exhausted from the whole situation and decided to just cut our losses. I didn't want to write a negative review for a pet shelter, and even after all of the trouble I wouldn't have written it if we just could have gotten our money back. But now I'm doing it because I just don't know what else to other than warn others. PLEASE, STEER CLEAR OF RAIN. ADOPT ELSEWHERE. read more

AWFUL! This place is a scam. They told us the cat we adopted was great with dogs and when we brought her home she attacked our dog multiple times and chased her around the house with the intent to hurt her. We have called, texted, left messages, and sent countless emails trying to return the cat and they will not contact us back. We have been trying to contact them for 36 hours now and they will not respond. Very unprofessional and full of liars. read more

I wanted to adopt a kitty but they won't let me because I need a declawed animal for heath reasons. I explained that I have a medical issue and cannot have claws on my skin. While I can admire not wanting to declaw an animal, is it better that the animal is left without a loving home? My other animals are very healthy and very happy (and very old!) without their claws. I wouldn't declaw if not absolutely necessary and I'm heartbroken that they won't even take the owners needs into consideration. Those poor animals! read more

What a tragedy these people do not return phone calls from someone interested in adopting!! It happened to us not once, but twice!!! A few months ago, we went into PetSmart & saw an adult cat we were interested in. We called & left a message. No one returned our call, so we called & left another message, & still no one returned our call! Then we saw 2 Volunteers in the grocery store (with the R.A.I.N. logo on their shirts) who gave us the person in charge's cell phone #. We called her & left a message & STILL DID NOT RECEIVE A RETURN PHONE CALL!! This past week, we were in PetSmart once again & saw 2 cats, 1 adult & 1 kitten that we were interested in. We called & left a message & did not receive a return call! What's up with that??? They want to place these homeless pets, but don't call back people who call them with an interest in adopting??? Not only that, they want $150 to adopt! I understand that they want to be sure the animal goes to a loving home that will more likely keep & care for the pet if there's a monetary investment, but $150 is much higher than other businesses & looks like pure greed to us. What a shame! We will never attempt to adopt from them again!! read more
