Of the 2-3 companies I contacted, Jason was the most responsive. He came out, tarped my roof, and had it repaired within a couple weeks. Since it was during a super rainy spring, I appreciated his timeliness on getting the area tarped to avoid further damage. We also hired Rain City Roofers to install a new roof on a 24'x40' shop we built. I always get 3 bids on large projects. Again, Jason was the most responsive. His bid wasn't the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. After working with him before we decided to go forward with him. We hired Rain City Roofers to replace our roof a couple years ago. I had problems after they finished that we found roofing nails all over the ground, as well as the little plastic strips that they pulled off the adhesive strip on the roofing shingles before installing them. I also found a bunch of cigarette butts all over my yard left behind by their workers. I didn't make an issue about it with the company at the time and just cleaned up the yard myself. Even a few years later I still find a roofing nail here and there when I work in the yard. I always worry my dogs are going to get one I missed in their paw. Thought everything with the roof installation was fine though until a couple months ago when we had some work done on our gutters. The gutter guy was on the roof and noticed the problem. He took pictures showing that all the nails that Rain City used to tack down our roof vents were all pulling up. Dozens of nails coming up all over the roof. After doing some research, I have found out that Rain City should have caulked and sealed any exposed nails. They did not do this and now they are all coming up. I immediately contacted the company on August 3rd, sent them the pictures the gutter guy took, and was told that Jason would reach out to me to schedule the repair. Didn't hear from Jason, so contacted the company again on August 7th and was told they would remind him to call me to schedule the repair. Things got very busy for me for the next couple months and so I kind of forgot about it, until I tried to contact the company again on October 10th with no response at all this time. I am not a litigious person, but they are now leaving me with no choice, but to seek legal action against them to fix their failure to do the job properly in the first place, and then not follow up with the repair when called out on it. I do not recommend Rain City Roofers for roof repair or replacement. Their failure to do the simple thing of caulking and sealing the exposed nails like they should have make me question what else they might not have done properly in the replacement of our roof. Then to not correct the issue quickly, then completely ignore me just goes to show they do not stand by their work. read more

Rain City Roofers: an honest, straightforward, skilled and reasonable roofing contractor I was entertaining the idea of having a major home improvement entity install a new roof, new screened gutters and new upstairs windows on my 1911 home in inner SE Portland, but the price tag shock (over $30K for those three projects) gave me considerable pause. And this company's sales technique (which I now know is called "price conditioning" (contractor starts out with what they represent as the average price for the type of project, rather than figuring the time and materials cost and adding a reasonable profit), was a turn-off. When I questioned the price approach, the big outfit started offering a much lower price. But now I did not trust them. Instead, after more research, I decided to go with three different companies, each of which specialized in only one product and service, and each of which was very straightforward regarding its bid to do the work. One of those companies was a gutter outfit, which in turn referred me to Rain City Roofers in Vancouver for my roofing needs. Rain City was not the lowest bid I received for the roofing job on our SE Portland home, but I was impressed by the high level of installation quality (e.g., using more nails than the minimum to ensure shingles would not blow off, as well as its use of an attractive and intelligently designed architectural shingle made by Owens Corning, a tried & true company, and also the degree of care that Rain City put into planning and executing the roofing proposal. But what absolutely sold me on Rain City Roofers was its honesty and straightforwardness from start to finish, by each and every person connected with the company, including its knowledgable sales rep Don, the receptionist Elizabeth, the entire roofing crew that came out, and the owner Jason and his son Austin. I would highly recommend! Great experience overall with Rain City! We had over 10 quotes from different local roofers, they had a great quality product at a good price. Jason and Austin were quick to respond with answers to questions. We have a huge roof area along with outbuildings and a skylight so it was a large project. Our rental townhome had a roof leak as a result of the ice storm. As an out of town landlord, I either couldn't get a roofer/contractor to come out for a few weeks, or the price they quoted was ridiculously high (i.e. recommending a total roof replacement without specifics). Then I found Jason and Rain City Roofers. Jason is very knowledgeable and professional. He came out quickly. Evaluated the issue (needed to add a moisture barrier in the cricket areas) and came up with an affordable solution. We needed a new roof and had the work done by Rain City Roofers. I looked online for reviews and they had good ones. I can see why. The did a great job and went above and beyond. The crew was great and answered all my questions. They cleaned up every day before going home and used a large magnet to pick up dropped nails. They put in more ventilation than we had before which had caused a lot of damage to the plywood underneath, which they replaced. They discovered the bathroom vents had come loose so they made sure they were reconnected. No wonder we had so much moisture. The roof looks great.
