So happy to find they are open with a regular schedule now. When I would try before, it was by appointment only. Their drink menu is extensive. Wife and I had the ultra-premium flight. We've done wineries and breweries before, however this is the first distillery we've ever done. Kelly, owner, was amazing. She walked us through everything and spent time to talk to us. It's obviously her passion but she didn't assume we knew things. The bar is pretty good. The guy giving the tasting talk was torture. He really needs to go to a Specs tasting (they are free) and get some training in how to do it better. Who cares about his long career (and even longer boring story) about selling boats. His constant nervous pacing. The chairs are miserable and I worried the whole time that mine would break. Our entire group had a pretty in depth discussion on the failings of the tour leader and his ad nauseam droning. Maybe, if he had poured the samples while discussing the product (the way the professionals do) then we could have had an opportunity to taste each offering and savor it. Saving all the shots to serve one after the other at the end is really palate numbing. As far as the actual liquor is concerned it is just so-so, but, that assessment may be heavily influenced because we were given all the shots in one rapid fire go. The only thing that saved this experience was the very friendly bartenders and the yummy drinks they were serving. Would I go back? Possibly, but, I would check to see if the owner was leading the tour before I did that again. Would I drink in the bar again? Absolutely. read more

We decided to go on a spur of the moment tour of the Railean distillery and I'm so glad we did! We've done a few brewery/distillery tours and this was by far one of the most enjoyable ones we've been to. Kelly was very sweet and charming and it's easy to see that she truly loves what she's doing - even though it's been a rough journey for her. She told us all about the distilling process, talked about the bar she's about to open, answered all of our questions, and even gave extensive advice to my boyfriend who is thinking about going into the business himself. I was writing a review the other day for a BBQ restaurant that I had eaten at and was reading my reviews on past experiences and now 9 months later I read that there was a response to my negative review so I feel the need to comment on Raileans response.First off I had driven a long way to visit and my better half was looking forward to it.I ask her if she wanted to leave and her response was no so I naturally wanted to please her.I would not act negative like Kelly did to me so thats why I chose not to say anything and make it miserable from any other poeple that were there that day.THAT'S WHAT YELP IS FOR !!!!!.Secondly,I know its not a quote,fancy Napa winery because I already knew about the facility and what it looked like.I am not sure why you made that comment other than the fact that we said we had been to Napa Valley and had enjoyed ourself...sounds like someone is jealous.I took the shot glass with us because I paid for it dumbshit,duh.And you must have had your head up somewhere because your dog DID drink actual rum,not the molasses like you said.We were mortified to see that and another couple there saw the same thing and said the same thing to us !!!You did not call me a stripper but you did say that I must have been at a strip club because I happened to have a lot of ones...thats the truth !!! One last thing that is an all out lie from a lier,I have given one star reviews in the past but I have also given five star reviews in the past so I am not sure what you mean by if they give me something for free I will give them a 5 star review.What a crock of shit from a lier !!!! If you want to learn how liquor is made, and support a really interesting local business competing with international conglomerates, stop in to the Railean distiilery at tour time. Matt & Kelly actually make their liquors right on site, so they aren't always available for tours - check their hours before you go. On a tour, you'll see how the ingredients (like molasses from Louisiana sugar cane) are fermented into a low alcohol liquid. Then this is distilled in the most impressive giant copper still to purify the liquor, aged and then bottled there on site. They've gone to great lengths to find the best US ingredients, barrels, bottles, labels - everything about their products is American. You can sample their products there, and buy bottles, too. The proprietors are both friendly and completely knowlegable - you can learn loads about liquor & cocktails from them.
