Planters punch

Cool vibe. The cocktail I had was labor intensive and delicious. Could easily fetch twice this price in the big city. Great service. You can buy a bottle of their spirits to go.

I was on a mission to escape the hot humid tropicalesqe afternoon that is a Galveston Texas August day. Daiquiri Time Out popped up while spinning the Roulette Wheel that is Yelp. So,with door code in hand I headed out. Taking note of another Yelpers recommendation to arrive early as the place is small and fills up,we did. On the far edge of downtown in a non descript building this bar, billed as a speakeasy, sat. The sidewalk was melting under my feet as I walked towards the door. No entry code needed. After my eyes adjusted, what I saw wasn't what I expected. Dirty Dancing+Saturday Night Fever+Ms Kitty's Gun Smoke saloon had a strange feel. Ok, let's go. We, as the first guest of the soon to be 5'oclock crowd approached the bartender, alone behind a just right mixing station. After perusing a menu of specialties and being guided through a few questions,we ordered. The good- I found an interesting little place to beat the summer heat and enjoy a decent drink. Not so good- not as billed. Overall no quirkiness or unique qualities to write home about. No snackes served with each drink as described by others. Once the place started filling up and I started my second adult beverage, things were looking up. Go,but with lowered expectations.

Atmosphere | 4.5/5…read more Hearsay on the Strand has a beautiful interior and a great overall ambiance. The decor and lighting is elegant, relaxing and warm. However, the music was a miss for me. It didn't match the setting at all and felt disconnected from the atmosphere of the restaurant. The music selection could definitely use some improvement. (Maybe jazz, or something by definetly not pop) Service | 5/5 Our waiter, Caleb, was AMAZING! He was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. Service is the No.1 most important thing in my opinion and Caleb knocked it out the park. Food | 4/5 I ordered the braised short rib, and the meat was incredibly TENDER! While I enjoyed the texture, I do think it could have used a little more flavor. A good marinade or deeper seasoning before cooking would really help bring out the richness of the meat. Now, the grits served underneath were extremely disappointing. They were water flavored and cold. Good grits need heavy cream or half-and-half, butter, and seasoning. For a dish like this, adding cheese would help. The pairing felt like an afterthought, almost as though they were trying to find a way to use up extra grits. My recommendation: Substitute the grits for mashed potatoes and request butter on the side. I think mashed potatoes would pair much better with the short rib. I got an off menu cozy apple turn over. It would have been good but it was cold. I definitely recommend it if we ensure it's hot when it comes. They switched it out for the Crème Brûlée for me and that was good! It had such a great crunch on the top layer. Overall Experience | 4/5

In addition to the food order being incorrect and slow, it wasn't good. The gumbo was a soup base with very little vegetable. It has chopped up pieces of white meat chicken mixed in and 2 decent shrimp thrown on top. The rice was undercooked - it was crunchy. The wedge salad had one cherry tomato split in half. The blue cheese dressing dressing was essentially mayonnaise with squares of not great blue cheese. Anyway - the island has so many great restaurants. Go somewhere with good food.

I was only able to eat half the sandwich, my soup and drink. The chicken salad was not too overwhelming and pungent . It was sandwiched with some thick toast so the bread never got soggy even after two days later. The Texas brisket and onion soup was amazing. I was a little impressed by this . It didn't have the salty/grainy residue that I would get with from other places. The feeling berry blue was very underwhelming. Skip this drink. But their list of cocktails looked really good and something to look forward for next time I come. And I want to bring my husband here for the soup. On top of this, the restaurant is really cute. There's an outdoor patio and indoors. It gives a very chic tropical feel with a vibe that you're out on vacation and that there is no work related deadlines. There is free street parking outside for up to two hours. They do not have a dedicated parking lot.

We were promptly greeted by the hostess and initially seated in an area where there were quite a few bugs. Thankfully, they quickly accommodated us by moving us to a better table. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The ambiance was lovely, and the décor created a warm, inviting atmosphere. Although I can't quite put my finger on it, I felt like something was missing to make the experience truly memorable. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal, and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a charming spot to dine in Galveston.
