This is a new restaurant in Westmont that has been open for three weeks. Four of us decided to try it out because their website showed high-end bourbon, and we are bourbon lovers. The place was packed when we walked in. Robert greeted us and said it would be about a 10-15 minute wait. We chatted a while and he was personable and told us of all the other restaurants they will be opening. 30 minutes later we finally we sat at a table. While we were waiting for a table, we went to the bar to get a drink. The two guys ordered old-fashioneds. I asked for Eagle Rare 10 on ice. The bartender said he couldn't serve that to me. ???? So then I asked for a gold rush which is a bourbon cocktail. The bartender had no clue what that was...mind you were in a place with lots of bourbon on the shelf and Robert said he was a veteran bartender. The bar didn't have a cocktail list either. Granted this place is only three weeks old.
Besides improvements in the bar area, the greeter needs to keep a list of who walks in to be seated instead of relying on memory. Once we were seated, we immediately ordered appetizers. His was our server and was sweet and personable. We ordered the whipped feta and the loaded potato skins. The appetizers finally reached the table 50 minutes later. The whipped feta was so creamy and had a little kick from giardiniera mixed in. It was served with a few pita triangles. Actually, they skimped on that because we ran out of pita and still had dip on hand. The loaded potato skins were what you expect. Get that feta dip, though. It was so damn good.
The four of us then ordered burgers for dinner. Three of us had beef burgers and my friend had a turkey burger. The three of us with beef burgers asked for them to be cooked medium rare. They came out on the well side. My husband decided to eat his, but my other friend and I told Gia and they were remade. When we received our new burgers, again they were not cooked to a medium rare. So disappointing! Gia kept on apologizing but it had nothing to do with her as it was out of her control. The restaurant did comp us 50% of the bill because of the mishap on the burgers. That's good Customer Service, but I walked away not eating most of my burger and not too happy.
I hope Rail & Rye gets their act together in the coming weeks ... 1) getting a cocktail list together and serving all alcohol on their shelves and not withholding 2) the bartender should be versed in cocktails, 3) create a waiting list in writing instead of relying on memory, 4) the kitchen needs to prepare food as requested and also speed up delivery as 50 minutes to get appetizers is a bit long by about 35 minutes.
I'm am honest with my reviews noting pros and cons, but my experience unfortunately had more mishaps than positives. read more
