I only know from years ago, but our kids both went there when it was a farm and Montessori school. My son has been coming to this school since he was a two year old. He transitioned from home care to daycare well here. He always speaks highly of his teachers, often repeating things that his teachers say. He also is always singing new songs that he's learned at school. He brings home his artwork to proudly show off and loves talking about his friend at school. Accidents have been extremely scarce and when they do occur, we get an incident sheet describing the accident and the care that he received afterwards, which usually always included a hug. I never see the kids running around unsupervised. Punishments are usually in the form of a timeout from what I've witnessed. The teachers are always willing to give status reports or give feedback on how the kids are doing. The kids also are given breakfast, lunch and snacks in between that are fairly healthy. I would highly recommend Ragsdill to anyone needing child care that includes a more than just playtime all day long. The hours are also very good for working parents. read more

I called to ask questions and price for my 2 year old with Down syndrome. I told the lady on the phone that my daughter was high functioning, but she wasn't using a lot of words but is doing basic sign language for when she wants something to drink or eat etc. She actually attends kinder care on bunker hill and is doing great but I can no longer afford kinder care. She questioned me about potty training. Anyway as soon as I told her that my daughter had Down syndrome she proceeded to tell me how this day care was not for my daughter and I should look into a special needs school. I proceeded to tell her that my daughter attends kinder care and she has no issues and they love my her. She was so shocked that a special needs child was doing well in another daycare. My child deserves what every other child gets, my daughter has Down syndrome but she is just like any other 2 year old in that facility. She may be a little delayed in some areas but I believe every child should be treated equally. I just wanted to share my experience. Signed my daughter (2.5yrs old) up last week for swim lessons they only take cash or check & only inform you of that when you go to pay which is inconvenient. So, when I signed her up for the 10:45 class & go to pay for it I don't have either form of payment & then I'm told it's ok just bring it Monday when her week starts. My daughter is really excited on Monday; we get there I'm told to fill out some paper work & then told she can't do the 10:45 class bc there are 2 4yr olds & 1 6yr old, but they recommend she take the 3 o'clock class bc the other kids are possibly more advanced then her & the 1 teacher couldn't really work with my daughter who can actually swim, but just wanted to improve her skills & have something fun to do. Uh, excuse me I signed her up for the 10:45 a week ago & I should've been told at sign up I at least needed to pay the $10...the girl working the desk keeps telling me in her fake nice voice "I know." I tell her that is really frustrating since I signed her up last week & my daughter should've already been on that list. Then she proceeds to tell me well you didn't have the $10 registration fee last week, so we can't put her on the list...uh, you didn't tell me I needed to pay it that day or else I would've left & got it. She goes to talk to the director & comes back to tell me I can take the 9:45 class that is already over or again the 3 o'clock class that I've already said we can't take & didn't sign up for. The director herself never bothered to come out to talk to me & apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Ragsdill Schools - Upset - Child Care & Day Care Near Me - Houston, Texas

The place is amazing! My son transfered here after a rough few months at his last facility. He had begun developing behavior issues that werent manifesting at home and werent being addressed at school. So it was time to try Ragsdill at the recommendation of my boss. He and I loved it from the very beginning. Ms Glenda (the owner) greets everyone so warmly in the morning, you can tell she loves what she does! His teacher, Ms Debra was his favorite person ever. She really took the time to learn his language and found that he loves to have a job and be a helper. He would always announce at pick up that he was either the door holder/line leader/napkin server/or art helper. If he began to act up in class, he would risk losing his job, which he HATED! But it worked! He got so much better! The love the whole staff shows these kids is above and beyond. I cant say enough about all of them. They're angels! I would absolutely recommend this facility to anyone who will listen. Is it too early to enroll in next summers childcare?! Because we WILL be back! read more

Ragsdill is not only a Spring Branch institution, its where many a native Houstonian spent their formative years. I love that the owner greets you when you walk in, thst all of the children seem happy, the teachers enjoy what they do and the daily structure is fun, safe and predictsble for my little ones. They learn so much and come home telling me about their day, books read, toys played with, and songs sung. The school does report accidents, help structure potty training routine at school, and the owner is very knowledgable about early childhood development. I really enjoyed growing up here and am delighted to have my children attend. read more

Not a place for Toddlers! I had a school-ager attend, which was fine because he was older. What I witnessed, as I passed through the classrooms to get to my school-ager, was unsettling. I saw pull/yanking of their arms, quite harshly. Yelling at them. No nurturing when they cried. These were babies under 2yrs. There were no cameras so parents were not aware. I went to the interview andGLENDA called me back the next day and told me I had the job (this was on a Friday), I told her I was giving my two weeks notice to my current job. GLENDA told me everything was fine and I could my job and her job for two weeks. I called her that following Monday to set-up a time for me to pick up my paperwprk. On Monday she told me I had to meet with her husband and to meet with her wenesday. Long story short I was offerend another job with them, took the job and three days before my two weeks were up her husband told me they had changed their minds and now am OUT OF A JOB. I think that the center takes adequate care of the children. However, once you have had a disagreement over a matter, the care completely changes for your child. In our situation, my son, who is 8 years old, expressed to his classmates that he wanted to change afterschool care programs "to one that was more fun." The owners treated him rudely upon hearing that and he was not ever treated the same by the owners or the classroom teachers from that point forward. About a month later, I disagreed with the owner on her handling of another situation involving my son and another student (where she likened hearing both sides of the story as rolling in the mud with pigs) which I was not happy to hear. Then 2 days later, with no warning, she called me at work at 11 am on a Thursday morning to inform me that she would not be picking up my son at school that day. The other owner is her husband and he told the other children that afternoon in the afterschool care class, that my child was "expelled." (according to other kids present that day). I always paid a couple of weeks in advance, so requested a refund of course. They only gave me the following week that was pre-paid and an overpayment that I made earlier in the year; and they kept the tuition for the remainder of that week, claiming that because he was there a portion of that week, I owed the whole week. Considering the circumstances that felt a little like a tricky way to keep more money than they earned or were entitled to. As a parent, I was left with no option but to take off work, scramble with no warning and find daycare, pay a new deposit all in one day, in a neighborhood that only has 3 daycares that services my son's school for aftercare. I think after being there 3+ years, they could have given me some kind of notice, if even a day's notice. Good news is that he is in a much better place now that he loves and feels well liked by leadership, which is so important. So, it all worked out the way that it was supposed to, but as a parent I felt mistreated, disrespected and ripped off. It is not the sum of money for me, it was what it represented that really felt unfair and malicious. read more

My 3 year old son was attending this daycare in the beginning of the year and from the very first day he complained that he was being hit on by another child in the class. I spoke with the Teacher about it and she told me she would be on top of it and ensure that it did not become a problem. A couple of weeks later my son told me that the same student was still hitting him and pushing him. I spoke with the Teacher about it again and she responded by confirming that the hitting was still happening and that she spoke with the other child's parents about the situation. I was upset about this because neither she, nor the owner, came to me to inform me that the hitting was still a problem. About a week later the Teacher informed me that she has been noticing that my son has been following behind the same student and has not been listening or following directions like he normally does. I also noticed some changes in his behavior at home so I started to have conversations with him about the importance of being a leader and not a follower and how to handle a bully. During the week before February 14th, I tried to give my son a bath at night and noticed that he started to scream and protest that he did not want to take a bath, which was unusual for him. After speaking to him, he admitted to me that the same child was continuing to bully him, was touching his private parts and was kissing him on the lips. I was devastated and irate to say the least. I immediately requested a meeting with the owner the following day to discuss the issue. When I arrived to meet with her, the first thing that she did was hand me a stack of printed papers that she got from Google, which explained the developmental stages of children. I informed her that I was quite aware of the developmental stages, as I have a Master's Degree in Social Work and Children's Studies. After I explained my concerns to her and told her about the conversation that I had with my son, she proceeded to tell me that hitting and bullying were normal for children of that age range. She also told me that she did not believe that a 3 or 4 year old child could display sexually inappropriate behaviors and in essence dismissed all of my son's claims. She then called the Teacher into the office to prove to me that the situation was not as serious as I believed it to be. The Teacher quickly corroborated my story about the hitting and confirmed that the child in question was a bully to not only my son, but to other children as well. The owner clearly did not like the way that the conversation was heading at that point and became very defensive. She denied that any of what I was saying was true and assured me that she had "good children and families" at her daycare. I explained to her that I was not complaining about her personally or her daycare for that matter; I just wanted to inform her of the situation so that she could nip it in the bud and so that another child would not have to experience the same thing. Furthermore I told her that I didn't intend to bring my son back to the school and asked for the money that I had paid in advance for the following week. She pushed back on this saying that I was required to give one week's notice to receive any money back. My response was that I would be a terrible parent if I brought my son back to the daycare after having the conversation with him, as well as after hearing her response to the issue. She did agree to give my money back, but was very rude and dismissive when I went to pick it up the following week. She also fired the Teacher for not lying for her and not taking her side. On top of all of this the price of this daycare is almost $50 more per week than the average price of the other daycares in that neighborhood. My son has been scarred by this experience and has been having a hard time fitting into other daycares. He is constantly bringing up the situation and is nervous and cautious to interact with other children. This daycare owner is a fool and an idiot and I would not let her watch my car for 5 minutes, let alone allow her to care for my child. Please be warned parents. read more

My daughter went to this daycare for about a year. I would not send any child to this daycare. For older children the ratio of child to guardian is not good. There are few activities for the children and any activities cost extra. There are no education activities for older kids. The attendants are supposed to monitor your child while they are doing their homework. My daughter never did her homework there. Also they have a swim program in the summer at an additional cost plus lessons cost another fee. The have field trips but you have to buy an $20.00 t-shirt, which a lot more expensive than other day cares. If you forget the t-shirt for the day of the outing you HAVE to buy another one or your child can't go on the activity. We went to the YMCA for a while for daycare and they always loaned us a t-shirt when we forgot it at home. On an outside activity day I put sunscreen on my red haired porcelain skinned daughter at home before taking her to Ragsdill. I asked both front desk and the attendant in my daughters room to reapply the sunscreen every couple of hours. I handed them the sunscreen. My daughter had to go to the doctor she had such a severe sunburn. One boy said sexual lthings to my daughter and the attendant told her nice girls don't do things like that.
