Love this place! Lovely staff and friendly service. Dr. Do is very nice and explains all my questions! My daughters feel real comfortable with Dr. Do, She diagnosed my daughter with a issue she had in her eyes last year. I also took my daughter with a specialist and the Dr. didn't see nothing wrong. She did the exact same test Dr. Do did. Its been a year since this and my daughter's eyes have improved and can't notice the issue no more. I am beyond grateful for Dr. Do that she caught the problem right away! I couldn't thank her enough! Also one of my daughters told me the exam was awesome because no puff of air goes into their eyes, like other places and the machine they used she could see the back of her eye. So they have really good equipment! I'll continue to come here. read more

This place lacks customer service for sure! After not being here for severla years, I came back to them, however, nobody mentioned that they needed me to come in early to fill out paperwork for their new system OR that they needed any documentation from me. THEY provided me with current insurance information when I called them on the phone as my primary was actually not accepted and so they confirmed a secondary that was (I was not even aware I still had this secondary insurance any longer). So this was great but I figured they had all they needed. Upon my arrival the receptionist seemed disgusted with me that I did not have my physical drivers license with me. I told her nobody told me I needed it but I had a picture of it on my phone but dont always carry the actual card with me. She was not pleased. I figured since I was not a new patient they should still have all this on file from when I did new patient paperwork. The receptionist then proceeded to get a lady from the back office area, not sure if she was the manager or what as she never introduced herself. Just came out asking what I needed. Ummm, I didnt need anything the lady just walked away adn out you came.....she to acted repulsed that I did not have my actual ID. I explained again that I had a picture of it but again was never instructed to bring it. Their comments were dont you always have it? I felt so uncomfotable. Fast forward to going back to the first room. The lady doesnt introduce herself either and just comes at my eye with the little thing that shoots air into your eye. Not a word! I stopped her and had to ask what she was about to do. I even told her that typically you let someone know what your about to do and dont just start pointing things right in their eyes with not so much as one word about it. I guess she didnt feel the need to apologize or anything. I would rather pay out of pocket for glasses elsewhere then ever provide them with my business again. I have used Ragsdale for over 40 year, my great grandparents, grandparents and parents also. Recently they will not let me and my three children come for visit the same day, now I understand people do no show for appointments then they are left with no money in those time slots. But in all those years i have NEVER no showed or even canceled an appointment. It's a competitive world out there and I try really hard to support local individualy owned businesses. Its inconvenient for me to have to come to, two appointments. And as a outstanding customer, your office should allow families to come at one time! I am so impressed with Dr. Ragsdale. I was having severe eye pain in both eyes and went to an emergency room-urgent care. The doctor there was concerned I had glaucoma and called Dr. Ragsdale who agreed to wait on me after-business hours to check me out due to the concern. I get there and his staff is leaving because the office is closed, but Dr. Ragsdale took his time testing me and didn't rush me because he was staying late. His equipment seemed to be very up-to-date and he showed me why I didn't have glaucoma. He gave me some steroid samples to help get rid of the pain. He then called me 3 days later just to ask how I felt. I haven't been treated by a medical professional who really was interested in helping and not just rushing me out to get to the next patient. I can not say how appreciative I am of him. I am now a loyal customer. read more

I have a very short list of things that make me angry. At the top of the list is doctors' offices that fail to respect my time. It is not acceptable to wait nearly 55 minutes to be seen. I will now search for an eye doctor office that knows how to manage their schedule. read more

I was having some vision issues due to high blood sugar and my doctor recommended I get my eyes checked. I went to Dr Ragsdale hoping to get some answers as to what was happening to my eyes, and can this be reversed. I wanted some concrete insight from an eye specialist, some guidance. Basically, his advice was: don't throw away your old pair of glasses. So he gave me a new prescription which I had filled with some new glasses. Thankfully I didn't buy them from their overpriced inventory because in two weeks they were useless. My eyes had returned to normal and my old pair were adequate again. Why didn't he counsel me to wait instead of pushing through with his examination and writing a useless proscription? I won't ever go back. read more

The service is terribl.They make you wait when you already have an appointmen.It takes forever to actually get with the doctor, meaning never on time.The glasses center doesn't do their job correctly. I was suppose to get my replacement glasses and they said I had to bring my old ones back, but they told me that when I went to pick my new ones up not when I was there getting them to replacement and I wasted a 40 min drive because of that. read more

Dr. Ragsdale was very thorough in my exam, doing tests I've never had before! His staff was very friendly and accommodating. Dr. Ragsdale and his office are GREAT! I have never had a better experience. The staff was courteous and helpful. Dr. Ragsdale was friendly and very knowledgeable. He answered every single one of my questions and spent about 30 min. with me which is pretty much unheard of for a doctor's office these days. When I realized the sample contacts that I was trying weren't quite right they got me back in the SAME DAY to fix the problem. They were completely upfront and transparent about what they would be charging me BEFORE the appointment and the invoice was clear and thorough. I was just blown away by Dr. Ragsdale and his staff. Bravo! One thing I want to point out is that Dr. Ragsdale and Dr. Do are ophthalmologists, not optometrists. BIG difference. Ophthalmologists go to medical school, optometrists do not. I've gone to Ragsdale Vision center for over 20 years. I really appreciate the personal touch. Dr. Shane Ragsdale is in charge now. He's very personable, knowlegable, and up-to-date. He has some awesome technology for imaging the inner eye. I felt very secure with his clinical assessment of an issue I was having. My son had to go in for a vision check and get glasses. The wait was a little long but there isn't a doctors office in the world that isn't. Anyway, my son did all the testing and when Dr. Van Do came in she was excellent with my son and with me. Her bedside manner was great! My wife has been going here for a while and had mixed reviews about the doctors. She only had the original Ragsdale and his son. Retired Ragsdale she did not like so much. The younger Ragsdale she liked. I recommend Dr. Do especially for kids. read more

Dr Ragsdale, himself was good BUT his staff is nothing but rude-not one but everyone I came in contact with. I waited almost an hour for my appt, due to the staff running behind not the Dr. I purchased 2 pairs of glasses & was not even offered a chance to sit down & have them fitted properly, the young lady wasn't interested in anything but keeping her seat warm!!!! I'll start by saying all the staff at Ragsdale Vision Center are very nice caring people that all have the same goal in mind of providing each customer with the best vision and choices possible. Now about our last visit, my wife and I had our exams performed by Dr. Do and she is amazing. My wife has some cognitive issues and Dr. Do took the time to ensure the exam was providing accurate results. Much to our surprise it turned out my wife doesn't need glasses at all! Maybe readers for reading but not needed for everyday use like she's had for over 15 years. Amazing how another set of eyes performing an exam can be the difference between night and day with such a drastic change for the good . It's only been one day but so far I haven't seen any issues with her performing her daily activities and routine. Thank you Dr. Do, we really appreciate your attention to details. read more

This is a review for A. the Glasses Store (attached to the optometrist office) and B. the actual optometrist office. A. 0/5 stars Absolutely AWFUL service. I've gotten 4 pairs of glasses and sunglasses here and they always manage to get something wrong. First of all, they are incredibly slow at getting your glasses lens replaced. Thank god I have a spare pair because at the slow rate they work at, I would be blind for two weeks. Secondly, they mess up orders. I ordered a pair of sunglasses with a specific set of options (non-polarized, gradual tint) and they messed it up. I made sure to repeat myself to ensure they wouldn't mess up, but that was useless. When I got the messed up pair back, I asked them to fix it and told them I was moving out of town next week. The next week I called multiple times checking on the status of the glasses and each time I was put on hold, no one knew what I was talking about, and I was told they would call me back with the status of the sunglasses. Not once did I get a call back. Now I've moved away and I have to pay money to get my sunglasses mailed to me, even though they made a mistake. Terrible customer service. The old lady that works here is rude and not helpful. The young girls that work here make simple mistakes and are clueless. Not a good combination. They've definitely lost my business. Stay away unless you want terrible service. B. 3/5 The younger doctor, Shane Ragsdale, is very nice and helpful. The other doctor, his father, is stern and not at all sociable. I went to this place for 25 years. I always thought that they had the best eye exam, period, despite the rather high price, and the fact that they didn't take my eye care insurance. I went there despite the fact that the receptionists were always indifferent at best, and unhelpful in solving my insurance problems. I went there in spite of the fact that they were not helpful in getting me my prescription later so that I could get lenses elsewhere. The last two times that I went there, Dr. Ragsdale seemed put out with me for asking for some temp sunshades after dilation (isn't that pretty standard?), and when I mentioned irritation in my eye and asked him if he could see the cause, he asked me if I were kidding; he could plainly see that I had a lash growing into my eye from my lower lid. A simple thing to remove with tweezers... unless it's from your own eye. Since we were in the midst of an eye exam and the lash was interfering with my vision, I asked him to pluck it. The Eye Doctor seemed put out by this. When I asked for advice from the doctor whom I've seen for years about LASIK (knowing full well that I would of course eventually need glasses of some power after), he snorted derisively, and told me that it was an unnecessary waste of money, and he'd see me back in a year or so, at my age. Wow. Are we so defensive of the threat to our glasses-selling business, that we won't give medical advice, Doc? Then I went to another place, that throw-away one at the Mall. The eye exam was just as good. Then I went to the Wal Mart pharmacy. Huh! The exam was Just As Good! But they kissed my but til it was rosy. And they made my eye insurance work. And it was less expensive. Goodbye, Dr. Ragsdale. When my newly-LASIK'd eyes need glasses again (I'm sure it will be soon), I shan't be returning to you. read more

I have a foster kiddo who has state insurance and Ragsdale was recommended. I paid out of pocket for an upgraded frame and lens, happily because she needs to like the glasses or she won't wear them. Not much help picking out a frame or explaining lens options. But I have been wearing glasses for 25 years so I know the drill. The pickup of the glasses was a terrible experience! The middle aged women behind the desk (Trisha) was very curt and uninformed. I asked about the warranty on the glasses. ( She had no idea how I paid for the glasses or if insurance had covered them because she had not looked up my kiddos account yet) She stated, "there is no warranty" I added that I had paid out of pocket for the frame and next time i will check with another vendor for a better warranty. At this point she remembered that the frames would be covered for a year. The glasses came out and I pointed out how dirty they were.( no finger prints, just around the edges where dirt or dust might collect from inserting them into the frame) The young gal apologized and left to clean them. I had to return with them later the same day because the temple was so loose. ( meaning the part of the ear piece where it attaches to the frame. I brought them back later the same day to have the ear piece tightened. The temple is still loose) While I waited, a gentleman brought in a pair of reading glasses that had been broken by his toddler. The ear piece/temple had been snapped off. The only response the employee had was, I can't do anything without the missing piece and "what do you want me to do about it!" Which she said repeatedly. I stepped up to give the gentleman the name of a different vendor (Fort Worth eye ware) that would be happy to solder a different piece on them. (I stayed put at the reception counter next to the man. I never raised my voice or walked any where in the office. The man said thank you and I sat down) The employee stated that they were out of warranty and wouldn't even ask in the back if they had spare parts. I will be sure to tell anyone I know to avoid this establishment read more

Dr. Shane is the best. Very thorough and never makes you feel rushed. Ever had an eye Dr let you try 6-7 combos of contacts to get it just right for aging eyes (with a smile) ??? He's the 3rd generation taking care of eyes in Denton. read more

Probably the least positive experience i have had with an optometrist. The younger Dr is knowledgeable...but as soon as he walked right into the room (my first visit) he didn't introduce himself or shake my hand. Ok i can get past that. Then after my exam, checkup, he spends the next 15 mins talking the science of my eyes and other items i can use to help with allergies etc. He seemed pretty concerned with getting me out the door. The comes the older lady who works with the frames and lenses. Terrible customer service. At first they want to you sign a paper saying if they damage your frames they are not responsible. Uh, excuse me? I hand you my $400 frames BY GOD you will be responsible if anything happens to them. So i tell her I'm not signing this for the reasons i just stated. And they tell me well that's how they do business. So i took my prescription and went to UNT Op. read more

I am completely unsatisfied. I am a current patient, and love Shane Ragsdale. He is always patient, and asks all the right questions when I have come in with issues. The exception was my last visit. I came in because I was having issues with my eyes and could not see clearly, so I filled out all the necessary paperwork the best I could. I did not sign the waver telling me that a contact prescription would be an additional cost. This alerted the receptionist who asked me if I was informed of the contact lens fitting fee. I told her that I did not need one. She then told me that the regular exam was covered under my insurance, but I would have to pay an additional $190.00 for a contact lens fitting fee. I stressed again that I did not need a contact fitting, I just wanted my eyes checked out. She said that I had to do a general examination, AND a contact fitting because I currently wear contacts. I told her to cancel my appointment and I got up and left. I don't want to go back to WALMART because I sit for hours past my appointment time and then I'm rushed out. But, I just might have to. This office nickel and dime's me and tries to get the most money out of me on top of my insurance copay. Shane needs to go over his billing practice and revise it to be standard across other vision places. He also should do some vetting of his staff before hiring them and then test them before they are allowed to interact with patients! read more

This was my first time to go to Ragsdale and I was very pleased with the Dr visit. I ordered my glasses and it took 1.5 - 2 weeks longer than expected to come in but I was very pleased with them until 3 weeks later I pulled them out of their case to see that one lens was missing. I had put them in the case a few days before so I had no idea when or where they fell out. I searched and could not find it. Assuming that being a high class/price business it would be covered, I went in but they said they weren't responsible and I would have to pay another $167 for a replacement lens. I don't have vision insurance so I had already paid $444 for the glasses which is a ridiculous price in the first place. This would have made the total cost over $600 so, needless to say, I was upset. These are FULL FRAME glasses and I showed them that there was absolutely no damage to indicate that I had done anything to cause the lens to pop out. My conclusion is that either the frame is defective or the lens wasn't installed correctly, neither of which should be my responsibility. I talked to Mark Ragsdale but he was resistant to paying for the new lens. I went back home and a few days later I finally found the lens. At that price I expect them to stand behind their products. I have had better service and much better prices at WalMart and CostCo which is where I will go in the future. read more
