If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. Where to begin? I have been to Rafi's a couple times this summer with coworkers after work for drinks. Each time we sat by the bar which is right next to the kitchen which has an open window so you can see right in. I've been here three times. Every. Single. Time. we had to have our cocktails to the delightful "soundtrack" of the horrible owner berating his staff. He calls them morons, losers, idiots. We brushed it off as a "bad night" but the next time we were there it was the same thing- but worse. The chef was berating a female chef and was so close to her face I thought he might hit her. The female chef looked all of 20 years old! But never mind the the verbal abuse that's so rampant at Rafi's platters. Let's talk about their complete and utter lack of FOOD SAFETY. Again, they seat people right next to the window into the kitchen so it's not like we can't see what's going on. The chef doesn't use gloves! He put fish and chicken on the same chopping boards! My girlfriend saw one of the female chefs say to another guy "this calamari is rotten" and he told her "you better fry it anyway or the owner will get mad at you". WHAT!!!! That was our last time there, and thank god we never ate any of that food. I don't care even if the food was the most amazing food on earth, the way they treat their own employees (who are kids!) is disgusting and shameful. Just be aware that your meal at Rafi's Platters comes with a side of verbal abuse and filth. If I could downvote this trash establishment any more I would. read more

The only saving grace of Rafi's Platter is that the food is tasty and authentic. Otherwise, the service was horrendous - unforgivably slow. It took us a full 1/2 hour to receive our appetizers, and a full hour from the time we sat down, to receive our main entrees. This is disgraceful. They moaned about being short on servers that day, but other people I know who have gone there have heard the same sob story, and this should not be the problem of the customer. When I went two years ago, shortly after the Rafi's Platter had opened, the business was on the ball, and it took half the time or less to get the food to us. My personal belief is that the owners have gotten a bit too comfortable with their success, and are trying to save money by hiring fewer people now. The restaurant recently expanded their seating area outside, so they should also hire more servers as part of that, but they don't seem to have done so. I was almost inclined to get up and leave before my food came during this last visit, because it was taking so long. Also, portion sizes are unacceptably small for the price being paid. Chicken curry with a few pieces of pita, 5 silver dollar-sized pieces of chicken breast, and three to four tablespoons of rice for $19 is obscene. Finally, the restaurant interior was way too hot. Spring a few extra dollars for more air conditioning - it was an 80+ degree day, so come on! read more

My fiancé and I strolled into town from Cleveland and were fortunate enough to choose Rafi's for dinner from the many tempting dining options that Olean provides. It was an exceptional dining experience. The cuisine was outstanding. Fresh, home made ingredients and everyone including the bartender, the wait staff and the owner went out of their way to make sure our evening was satisfying and delicious. We liked it so much we will be having lunch there tomorrow before we head back to Ohio. Everything we ordered was outstanding! We had the eggplant parmigiana and chicken curry. Both were amazing. Tomorrow we will try the coconut Grouper and I'll grab a Gyro to go! Give this place a try folks....you won't be disappointed. We had been here for lunch, which were some great wraps, one of us had shrimp, the other steak, and we swapped halves for "surf and turf," and decided to come back for dinner. The price may seem a bit high for the area, but once you start getting food on the table, you will enjoy the value added! For starters there are complementary house made crisps, truly melt-in-your-mouth with salsa. The entrees come with choice of salad or spicy lentil soup, which is wonderful! Alongside is a trio of sauces - tzasiki, a sweet mango chutney, and a spicier one. The three of had chicken marsala, chicken curry, and chicken Parmesan, and each got rave reviews. There is a full bar, but no beers on tap. The decor is contemporary with Tolix style chairs and ethnic touches. read more

Three hungry guys from New York and were very impressed by the amazing food prepared by this family. We are from Brooklyn and love middle eastern food and eat it all the time This food is meticulously prepared and tastes perfectly balanced. You can not get better tasting hummus than this place. The portions are very large and are more than enough. The food was very fresh. If you are in Olean you have to eat at this place. Clean, great staff and attentive service. Great service. Warm and inviting. The food is a delight and this side of heaven. Great exotic choices that lend a gastronomical genius and a treasure for the palate! Stopped here on the recommendation of a co worker. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was casual with good music playing. The menu had some Italian dishes and Indian dishes. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was excellent! Plenty of chicken swimming in a spicy flavorful sauce. The side was French onion soup that was great also. I will take my wife there the next time we're out that way together. They also had a good selection of bottled beer and wine. read more

The outdoor seating on the couches was great! We went on a Friday night and there were a couple of older gentleman playing blues music. They were excellent. Was such a nice ambience. My wife and I had started with the hummus app and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. For dinner my wife got the coconut encrusted grouper and I had the Paki Platter. Both meals were delicious. Great food and service! The menu is eclectic - everything we had was fabulous! Starting with the delicious homemade hummus with warm pita was a great call. The curry, lentil soup, and tikka masala were delicious with just the right touch of heat with the spices. Water glasses and coffee cups were kept full. Can't wait to go back! read more
