I should've known better and learned a tough lesson....if a "business" is not on Yelp or doesn't have a lot of reviews...be cautious! Even if a friend recommends "this handyman" you're gambling with receiving what you asked for and having it done correctly. In any case, I had my master bathroom done about 3 years ago but near the last stretch of the project the guy stopped returning my calls to correct items...then recently, the grout from the floor was coming out and the tiles were shifting...bad sign! After helping us with the remodel of our entire home, including the kitchen and our bathrooms - see the long story in previous reviews, we finally got Radu back to our house to install the backsplash for our kitchen. It took us a while but we finally found, or should I better say, my wife finally found the tile that she liked, at Porcelanosa in Walnut Creek (https://www.porcelanosa-usa.com/products/tile/wall-tiles/wave-white.html). We were not sure how the waves design would look like when mounted, and if they can be mounted to have continuous lines. We showed it to Radu, and he said that while not easy, especially in tight corners, he will setup the tiles so that we'll have continuous waves across the entire backsplash. And sure enough he did. Everything that you see in the attached picture was done in a day. Radu took his time to perfectly match, cut and install each full tile or small pieces of tile. He created an absolute piece of art that has really enriched the modern design of our kitchen. Radu and his amazing team worked on our first remodeling project for our hallway bathroom. Radu came to give me a free estimate with a mask (Covid times here) and gave me a rough quote for the project. After we spoke in details about what I wanted, he made sure he had a full understanding of my expectations and thoroughly explained what his team would do, and who was responsible for what materials. Going into this blindly, I really appreciated how patient and understanding he was. I kept him posted on all materials I purchased and made sure they arrived in time. We also have a baby in the house and he was very mindful of working efficiently, not to unnecessarily extend the project. What I really appreciated about this team was that they always communicated with me about any decisions they had to make for materials. They left styling completely up to me and only gave their opinions when I asked. They never imposed their style on my project and only suggested things they felt were important. Vastile had suggested incorporating the floor tiles into the niche of the shower walls and it was GENIUS. It looked so nice and made everything come together. Radu's attention to detail is much appreciated. He takes such pride in his work in laying tiles. You can clearly see why in these pictures. Radu and Vastile also suggested using some quartz in my project to protect the shelves from water. Working with Ovi on plumbing great because plumbing can be so complicated, it's nice to have someone explain how it works and what is best for my home, my project, and my family. Radu is a master of his craft! After hiring Radu for the bathroom tiling in our last house (a fixer) almost 10 years ago, I never forgot how good his work was. So I called him again when we bought another fixer 6 months ago and embarked on a full bathroom and kitchen renovation. I was only getting a bid for tiles and counter-top but Radu and his partner Vasi ended up doing a bunch of other work for us as well. For the work that they couldn't do, he gave us recommendations for trades like plumbing and painting. Everything was done to our satisfaction at a very reasonable price. Radu did our floor tile about 2 months ago. The tile itself is fine but there were some things that made me hesitant to give a better review. - Radu only charges for labor so make sure you're aware that you'll need to need to pay for all materials. We didn't realize we had to pay for all the supplies including the hardiebacker, screws, and grout. Other contractors we worked with gave us a general quote which included everything. However, he demolished our fireplace surround and kitchen bar for free, so I think the price balanced out. - He only does tile/marble/granite so we had to work with other contractors for plumbing/electrical/carpentry. We even had to get another person just to put the baseboards back on. - He left things unfinished like our toilet in the shower and our floor vents/plugs uncovered. We also found some garbage in the floor vent. - We paid for garbage removal but still had to get rid of leftover boxes ourselves. - The grout color we chose was way lighter than the sample and seemed uneven in different areas. I was mostly disappointed with this but Radu offered to touch it up after our other remodeling projects were done. We were in a rush to move so left it. Overall, I think he'd be fine for small projects but a general contractor would be better for bigger home improvements. read more

Radu and his team (Vasile, Daniel) work with attention to detail and are not pushy or hard sell. All have earned our complete trust. We needed a simple kitchen update of sink and countertops. We thought as novices we'd be overwhelmed by the process. I learned to text my questions asking for clarification and Radu was ALWAYS available to respond promptly any concern no matter how trivial. Radu and his hardworking team gave helpful suggestions that we used in the kitchen design. Not a wasted moment. It was all about completing the job beautifully. His suggestions where to purchase countertops and how to improve the design within our budget were spot on. In three (3) days the job was completed and the clean up was good. Day 1: Demolition and Pick Countertops with Radu, Day 2: deliver tops to home and Radu would fabricate and install and Day 3: Plumbing and squaring the bill (competitive/reasonable). With 18 years in the business, Radu always made sure there were no surprises by letting us know step by step what to expect. He would keep us well informed about the materials he needed to get, the time he would arrive and who would come to help. Whenever there was an issue (i.e. needed a new plumbing valve, countertops needing leveling up, pick up a garbage disposal air gap for plumber, etc.) the issue would be resolved logically and quickly. It's been a wonderful partnership knowing Radu, Vasile, "granite guy" and Daniel and know that there are men who take pride in their craft. First and foremost, I would like to thank our fellow yelpers for leading us to Radu. If it wasn't for you, we would not have found him at all. Sometimes things happen for a reason. In our case, our contractor doing our bathroom remodel got sick, then decided he didn't want to finish the last crucial part of the job: tiling the bathroom wall and shower stall. We paid him a lot of money and he abandoned the job. We were livid and very hurt. We treated him well and never haggled about the cost. We had used him for previous jobs, this being the biggest one. He always was dependable and did good work, or so we thought, but things changed. He wasn't doing the work himself anymore. He would pick up a guy from the Bart station, drop him off at our house, and leave to work on other jobs. We hired him and not some guy he just hired. After explaining to Radu what happened, he said he would take a look at the bathroom. He gave us a reasonable quote, not the cheapest, but still fair. We hired him because his expertise is tile. Radu is a master at his craft. We could've hired one of the other two lower bids, but we would just be hiring a guy who also does tile, but not an expert. Radu found flaws the contractor did like the slope on the floor, using the cheapest, builder's set shower faucet, and also the presence of mini hills and valleys on the shower floor as well. He even showed us that the tile the contractor bought was very thin, 6mm, and not porcelain, which is better suited to areas that are exposed to water. Mistake after mistake. Anyway, we agreed on a day to do the work after picking up the new and improved tiles. Radu finished in less than two days. It would've taken the bad contractor at least a week to finish, assuming he would've even finished and we would've paid for it with inferior tile and shoddy work. And just as a point, not many contractors would want to even touch a job that was started by someone else, but Radu had no problem or hesitation accepting it. He will also tell you what he knows how to do and what he doesn't. He knows tile. He's not a plumber, electrician or a carpenter, but some things he can do. And if he can't, he will give a referral to good contractors as well. Back to the lesson we learned, maybe things do happen for a reason. Now, thanks to Radu, we have a brand new shower stall, better workmanship, better tile and done inside of a week from our first contact with him. On a personal note, we also liked Radu's no nonsense, sensible, mellow personality. He exudes quiet confidence and is down to earth and practical. He sees the big picture, and always makes sure we are on the same page, step by step, something our old contractor did not do. There was a part where he wanted us as a couple to look at the progress of the work, so everyone was in agreement. He was firm on that and we, of course, could see that it was the best thing. He's very experienced and is well aware that it's best that couples are informed together of the work's development. We appreciated that. Look at the before and after pictures. Before we moved into our new house, we wanted to remodel our kitchen. We got estimates from A LOT of different 5 star yelp businesses. After all the dust settled, we went with Radu and his team. He wasn't the cheapest quote we received, but he's a contractor who could take care of multiple jobs which is what we needed. Radu did an awesome job on our kitchen countertops and backsplash. His sub contractors are excellent as well. They switched out our dishwasher and garbage disposal along with all the plumbing. Removed a wall microwave and cabinet, and replaced it with a range hood. They also changed out our double oven and cooktop, kitchen electrical outlets and lighting. There were a few more jobs we had done, but that was the majority of Radu's doing. Getting back to Radu. We are SO SO HAPPY with our kitchen and how it turned out, especially with our backsplash. Radu really took his time cutting each tile and placing it in our preferred herringbone pattern. You could tell he was really detailed, b/c he continued the pattern onto transition walls. Throughout the whole process, he gave recommendations which we were hesitant on, but we took his advice and were very happy we did. He is the professional after all. The flooring guy Vasili was awesome and I cannot recommend him enough. Pictures speak a lot of words and if you look at the before and after pictures, you can get an idea about the quality of work done. If you know what you want to get done, it does not get better than this. Radu and his subcontractors (we also added new lighting, new fan, new toilet ...so an electrician, a plumber, and a painter too) did an amazing and amazingly quick job on our bathroom redo under my ridiculous time constraints - try one week and done! Amazingly fast! He made excellent recommendations on sourcing materials for best quality and value and insured that our lovely new tiles were being put up on walls/floors/and plumbing that were in "good" shape. Than mean't tearing out the old wall, the sub floor and replacing all that, complete with insulation and stabilization for a tub grab bar to be added when I'm ready. Here is my story with Radu; I purchased a brand new house a few weeks ago but I didn't like the living room and kitchen tiles and backsplash. He showed up on time which was two days after I called him as he was busy with a different project. From the very first moment, Radu REFUSED to do the work!!! Why??? He advised me to keep it as is and save my money for a better appliances and TV for my new home. He said the quality of work and material used are just excellent, he DID change my mind right away, and my wife agreed with him as well. This guy refused to do a job of a minimum of $15,000.00 and instead he advised to save my money. I believe we don't meet with people like Radu very often nowadays.
