Frankly, the Radisson Blu Hotel Lucerne is the worst four star (supposed to be) hotel in which I have ever stayed. The hotel is in a rather shabby area of the city, a few blocks away from the main railway station. The bulk of the staff seem unmotivated to assist guests, and they try to enforce hotel directives which make no sense. At the bar, the bartender was very curt. On the first evening my wife and I were seated at the restaurant (Luce) and ordered dinner drinks and a pizza. Some time after being served the drinks the waiter returns and states the pizza cannot be served to us as it is only available through the room service menu although, he stated, their own kitchen would cook it and most likely he would be the person who would deliver it to our room. When we left the restaurant the front desk confirmed said directive. Upon returning to our room we ordered the pizza once more, only to encounter additional obstacles which necessitated me going downstairs to the front desk again, asking for the manager on duty. Once this was done, the problems seemed to be corrected. The pizza was finally delivered to our room, close to an hour after the entire process commenced. The pizza had as much flavor as a discarded cardboard box. Later, when we inquired about fresh coffee being delivered to our room in the morning we were directed to the self serve Nescafe instant coffee packages in the room.
The temperature in the room (which cost over $350.00 per night) was impossible to regulate, even with staff assistance.
Our room had the view of an apartment building across the street, where we could almost read the newspapers being read by tenants. No privacy in our bedroom unless the curtains were completely drawn, making our room (all shades of grey) gloomy.
Only a duvet was available for the bed, which was worthless in an already hot room. Had to ask for a bed sheet as replacement each day. No face cloths in the bathroom, and had to be requested daily. The bathroom area lights were regulated by a single switch, which meant that all bathroom area lights (the bathroom area does not have a door) would be turned ON by anyone getting up in the middle of the night, waking anyone else trying to sleep. Only ONE hook in the bathroom area on which to perch any/all wet towels. Shower water seeped under the glass shower door, making part of the bathroom floor wet and slippery. Well, gentle reader, you get the picture of how unsatisfactory was our stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel Lucerne. Have no idea were that vaunted Swiss hospitality hid during the days (Sept. 6-8, 2019) my wife and I stayed at the hotel. What a total waste of money! read more
