Medstar Shah, which is not actually connected to MedStar but an independent franchise, is a full…read moreservice medical facility. However the quality of care is questionable and has been declining as they grow. My primary care doesn't seem to want to treat or refer anything. My gastroenterologist takes lots of labs but ignores patient statements about whether things are getting better or not. My endocrinologist lets her aide decide whether or not patients need refills or not, even to the extent the aide removed one of my prima meds and the doc keeps wondering why my diabetes is no longer controlled as well as it used to be. My urologist did not believe the side effects from a med he prescribed. The lab is undersized and apparently an afterthought despit's the fact it seems as if MedStar Shah physicians rely on labs and not patient input. Overall they seem more interested in patient volume and not actual treatment. I started at Medstar Shah because they have a monopoly on the endocrinologist in Charles County but do not be fooled, it's a low bar of health care in their practice. They do have a good cardiologist.

And they didn't know how long the wait would be. I was walked down to the 1st floor. When I asked why I was scheduled for a waiting room? I was asked if I confirmed my appointment? Yes, was my response. I did some online. Then it was told to me, "because you scheduled online you scheduled wrong." I clarified that I scheduled with a live rep when I scheduled a week prior to my appointment. Once downstairs I received more lack luster customer service when I was told, "the MRI machine is down. A tech is working on it but we don't know how long it will take." I then explained that there should've been a phone call in advance to explain the downed machine with an offer to reschedule. I received no apology or semblance of sympathy. When I asked about possibly rescheduling there was no appointment for at least 2 more weeks. As I stood making my decision I overheard another representative checking in another patient say to her, "I'm sorry. The technician is at lunch and won't be back until 1:30 pm. Would you like to wait? It's 12:52 now." . My disbelief at the "customer service" of this place is hard to describe. No one hopes to be off work and be met with this. I've been to this location before for a different service and it was pleasant. But the reps must be full from last night's dinner and unable to tap into their "holiday cheer" as I sit here and listen to Christmas music while the lobby fills with patients trying to utilize their patience.

Then I scheduled a procedure for next Monday and this morning I got a message that they were going to change my appointment to over a month later because my doctor had an August date on the form. I called them back and told them not to change it until I could talk with my doctor which I did only to find that they gave away my scheduled time to someone else and now I have to be there four days later a 6:30 AM. Do yourself a favor and drive to Georgetown instead.

Dr. Antani is a very knowledgeable and capable doctor. He was also very nice and patient with me…read morewhen I asked a ton of questions! His staff is also very nice and responsive. Sometimes my appointment gets pushed back 15 minutes depending on their schedule, but they always let me know in advance. And I've never waited very long to be seen. I got venous ablation and sclerotherapy done in his office, as I had bad varicose veins under my skin (and a few spider veins), which would only become more troublesome and noticable over time. Needless to say, the procedure was a success! My legs feel much better (not as swollen, much lighter, no pain!). Thanks Dr. Antani!

LONG family…read morehistory of cancer, mom and twin both passed from different types of cancer and another sibbling has cancer. Yet this MRI facility trying to save some $$ called docs office and spoke to who knows, but not the doc and decided he did not need the MRI with contrast and if he does he can just come back and do another.... We have lived MRI nightmares a long time from myself, my child, whom we lost at 23 from medical issues and other family members. The only way spinal cancer is clearly detected is with contrast... Stop trying to save a $$$ and start caring about your patents.... Will NOT be back....
