First time at Rack Shack BBQ, and I was wowed! The place gives me dive bar but homie feel. Differently family centered you can see it on the walls. The guy taking my order I don't know if he was the owner, but he was quiet. The true test for ribs, in my opinion, is getting them with the sauce on the side, and these ribs passed with flying colors. Rubbed to perfection, tender, flavorful, and smoky in all the right ways. Then I tried the Savannah Heat homemade sauce... the perfect cherry on top. I noticed they've won several competitions, and I can absolutely see why. Everything tasted award-worthy. Haven't been here in maybe 10 years. Ordered some take out. We got the wings, hotdog, tater tots, corn bread, and 2 meat hobo meal. Wings - my kids liked them, I thought they were good as well. Would order again. Tater tots - good and crispy, well seasoned. Would order again. Corn bread - flavor was really good, but it fell apart pretty fast after the first bite. 2 meat hobo meal - this is what dropped it down to 3 stars. So much potential but it missed the mark. The sausage, brisket, and mac and cheese all went well together. The coleslaw, corn, and baked potato seemed random and not complimentary to the dish/didn't tie it all together. If I got this again I would skip the corn for sure and request coleslaw be on the side. This ends up tasting like a loaded baked potato with random ingredients, which some people might like, but I wasn't a huge fan. read more

Great ribs and pulled pork. Brisket also was good, can imagine it would be better if fresh but for a smoke house bbq place that's unrealistic. Fair prices which matches the quality. Not a 10/10 Texas quality but it's also not $50/lb. The reviews complaining make me think they'll complain that a USDA choice grade steak isn't as tender as wagyu, but then would complain that the wagyu is too expensive. Service is a bit of a thing, I think the pit guy who came out to man the counter isn't really a "front of house" kind of guy but professional enough, the young gal who came out later was nice though, she probably mans the counter usually. read more

I tried ordering ahead online but it wouldn't let me change the date so I called in my order instead. The person I talked to was friendly and helpful. I quickly placed my order for rib tips and 3 different sauces really quickly. Picking up - my pick up time was scheduled just 10 mins after they opened. We were excited to try a new BBQ place near us. The Barbeque Mac menu is innovative - props for that. Flavor and value were only okay. Service was a let down. We ordered for takeaway online, and when I arrived for pickup, it took a few minutes to be greeted, then I was treated as though I was crazy for showing up so "early" for my pickup. Finally, they ran out of the ingredients to make my order. I was offered to make my order incomplete, or to wait for another half hour while they went to buy ingredients, or change my order. Haven't been able to get their food since my wedding in Spring 2022. They have expanded to include some new menu options. Today I had the Hangover Mac N' Cheese. I chose the Houston Bbq sauce and I was so happy I did. Spicy and delicious. They have excellent service and very affordable prices. The ambiance is reminiscent of a Texas restaurant. Rack Shack Revitalized!!! Having eaten at Rack Shack under previous owners, and after reading some negative reviews about the new ones, we were skeptical. We. We're. Wrong. My husband ordered the half rack of ribs, and they were the juiciest they've ever been. I had the Philly melt with brisket and it had much more meat than I expected and was so flavorful. We shared the cheese curds and onion rings, and they were crispy and seasoned well - unlike the previous ones which were way too salty. The ranch was flawless. It wasn't runny and bland - it was thick, perfect for dipping. And the sauces are so good. We prefer the KC and the St. Paulie. read more

This review is for their Thanksgiving turkey. We purchased a whole turkey - 22 pounds. The whole experience was awesome. The pickup was efficient, the bird was securely packed and easy to carry, and the product was delicious!! Great smoke, moist throughout, and easy to carve. We've eaten here before besides Thanksgiving and the BBQ is tasty and the restaurant clean. We will definitely come here often for their regular offerings as well as their Thanksgiving turkey. If this is going to be the person that you choose to be the front person of your business, leave the attitude at the door. Every time I visit Burnsville from Dallas, Texas, I've wanted to stop at rack shack barbecue. From when they used to be located on the other side of 77 Clif Road to their current location. After more than 10 years, I finally had an opportunity to visit the restaurant today. To my dismay I ended up, leaving without ordering any food. I asked about the brisket and I was told it was good. When I asked specific details about the bark, if it was a wet or dry cut I was told it's the same as every day. I asked if I could see the brisket and I was told no, What if a customer walked in and needed to be serviced immediately. When I asked if they had a sample, I was told they don't provide samples. They have a minimum order of half a pound of meat. I asked if I wasn't happy with the brisket if I could return or exchange it, and I was told they do not do either. Sides, these are great. All the selections for sides are fair to excellent. Meat, dissatisfied with brisket as it is overcooked and tough. Ribs were dry and also overcooked. They served the end of the rack that most throw out. Pulled pork is okay, chicken was dry last time i tried it. The hobo thing they sell is basically all the sides on some meat on top. overall the theme is the food is overcooked and overpriced for the amount and quality you receive. Unfortunately in the south metro you limited bbq options. This being one of 4 locations you can get bbq in the south metro it's probably the 2 best in the area. First time visit for us and the food did not disappoint! Two of us shared a half rack of ribs, a 1/2 lb of brisket, slaw and a medium sweet potato fries. Love that the meats come unsauced, which shows this team knows what they're doing. Both ribs and brisket had the perfect kiss of smoke and were well-seasoned (fries too- the salt mix had a tiny bit of sugar and spices that elevated them from good to great). Two points of constructive criticism: their sauce game here was average (we tried 5 different types, everything except super spicy). Flavors were decent, but not as layered or deep as the A+ meats deserved. A little less corn syrup (just guessing here because the sweetness was relentless in a couple flavors) and cutting back on the liquid smoke a hair would be ideal. Don't want to knock these guys because they do a really good job and it was the best bbq we've enjoyed all year. Note: music is pretty loud rock n roll (which I love, but not when I'm eating with someone I love) so don't plan to have a lot of conversation if you eat in the dining room. I used to go to the Rack Shack when it was located further down on Cliff, but I hadn't been to their new location until today. The new location is a nice size, with several tables including some appropriate for bigger groups. You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Today we tried some fried green beans as an appetizer because they were on special. I'm not always a fan of fried green beans since they can be kind of wimpy sometimes, but these were excellent! Very crunchy with a nice ranch-type sauce to go along them. I had a mushroom-swiss burger and added onions. Their burgers are absolutely terrific!! Consistently delicious! Perfectly cooked thick burger on a soft onion (or regular) bun, juicy and full of flavor! I'm not always a lover of BBQ and have to be in the right mood, so finding this burger gives me a non-BBQ item when we come. I've also had their BBQ though and have always been happy with what I've tried. The Sammie's are incredible as well. My husband had the BBQ brisket sandwich and he loved it! They have about 8 sauces and you can grab one of each and try them all out. Great selection and you can buy sauces to take home too which is great for BBQ season coming up! They offer a number of great sides including mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, fries and onion rings to name a few so lots to choose from there. I really hate it when I find a place like this; amazingly good, but too far from where I live. I'm going to be craving their BBQ from 45 miles away :-( Regardless, I'm so glad I stopped in for dinner while doing some work in the area. The restaurant has a clean, modern chain restaurant look and feel to it. But don't let that deter you because it's honest down home bbq! I had ribs, beans, and mac and cheese. The ribs were perfect easy to pull, but not fall off, the bone tenderness and the spice rub was excellent with a strong focus on cumin. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. The beans were unexpected in that there were 3 or 4 different kinds of beans and they came in a thin sauce, but were heavily smoked. I couldn't stop eating them! I also decided to get a banana pudding parfait and it was also wonderful. There were lots of dessert choices and all looked homemade. They also have 10 different sauces to try. I tried 4 of them and each was very good. Service was outstanding too. Everyone was smiling and clearly taking pride in what they were doing and producing; tables were cleared and cleaned within seconds of a party leaving. As I said, it's too far for me to be a regular, but if I'm nearby again, I'll be stopping in. read more

We have been going around the area in a quest to find great BBQ. Rack Shack BBQ didn't live up to my expectations but it's not terrible either. Order as you walk in, and if you decide to dine in you just seat yourself. I ordered the HOBO and my partner ordered the three meat combo. Honestly, the HOBO looked better than it tasted. I picked one meat - shredded chicken. The HOBO is a plate consisted of a whole baked potato with the meat of your choice, BBQ beans, and Claire slaw on top. On the sides, you get Mac and cheese and some sort of corn medley. I think it was just too much going on, and the juice from the slaw and everything else blended in together didn't help with the taste. First time at Rack Shack tonight and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was great and the place is really nice for a bbq "shack". The young lady at the register was very helpful and answered all of our questions, several times. Our food was prepared and brought out to us much faster then expected. Best part, service wise, was that shortly after we got our food my wife knocked my pop over, spilling all over the table and my food. The same young lady that took our order was over at our table helping us before we realized what was going on. She immediately took my plate of food away and said a new plate would be out shortly, which it was! Then she helped us clean up our mess. After all of that the food was really good. My son and I each had the Hobo plates which were very good, And I would recommend, especially if you have a big appetite. My wife and one of my daughters had ribs which they loved and raved about how tender they were and the bones just pulled right out. My other daughter had pulled pork and loved it. We also had fun trying all of the different sauces which were all good in there own right. This place is a must if you like good bbq. It was my first time, but certainly won't be my last. I see some reviews complain a bit about the prices. I thought the prices were fair. As a guy who loves to smoke his own ribs and pork etc, I realize that good meet isn't cheap and they can't just give it away or they won't be around long. I really wanted to like this place. I ordered a brisket sandwich and it was dry. My partner ordered a hobo and it looked better than it tasted. The Cole slaw had no taste and the Mac n cheese was not great. The corn bread was really sweet and the bbq beans tasted like ketchup. I'm with Jenny L. on this one. The hobo is not the way to sample. Not enough meat and if you don't like something you're kind of stuck with it. Cole slaw and corn bland and tasteless. I got the poppers that someone suggested. Loved those. Tasted a lot like the ones at Sonic. A weird bbq sour cream for dipping. A shake comes in one size small. Water is filtered from the fountain so that was good. If you come on a hot day you will stay hot inside cause the AC is NG. It will be cooler at Bruegger's next door. An open kitchen is no excuse. I've been in plenty of comfort in others. It's average cause it's not bad for a chain, and compared to Famous Dave's it's fabulous.
