Disclaimer to my review: mostly bath/blowout with minimal trims so not a doodle or more styled breed experience. My cousins have been bringing their dog here and recommended it to me so I decided to bring my husky boy by to get his floof under control. I will say that my experience calling to schedule the appointment was not either good or bad per se. So I can see how some people might get particular in regards to customer service. I was thrown off by certain comments, but the reference was good enough for me and coming from someone with several years working with dogs in the past (daycare) I rather judge a place by how they treat my pup than the humans. The fact they were able to get me scheduled in about 2 weeks time was also great news especially considering it was the holidays and they were closed for 1 of those 2 weeks! I had checked pricing on the site and it seemed fair to what I had paid in the past for my boy. Took him in today. They took him back right on schedule, and were flexible with some last minute requests. Once there in person I found everyone to be very nice and you can tell they enjoy being around dogs. I picked up my dog 2.5 hours later and I swear he is softer than ever before. His trimmed feet looked so cute and his butt was trimmed without it looking to chopped or anything. You never explain there's cancellations, and now you made it sound like you did what you could to squeeze me in. When I asked if you have appointments for tomorrow and Friday, all Roz said was today at 10, today at 10, she could have said sorry we only have appointment today, but not keep saying today at 10. I contacted Rachel's Dog Grooming with high hopes based on the Yelp reviews I've read. In particular, I saw a review mentioning their positive experience with Stephanie and their chow chow. It seems like they had a very positive experience and I was excited to make this my dog's primary grooming spot. I called last week and left a voicemail. I didn't receive a call back (probably due to the holiday), so I left a follow up email. I mentioned that my dog was a chow chow and that he doesn't like getting his nails cut. He pulls away when you try to grab his paws, but he is not aggressive. He is very polite and gets along with all adults and small children. I received an email saying that they cannot work with my dog simply because of his breed. "The temperament of a chow is very unpredictable for this type of service. Rachel's Dog Grooming made a professional decision to no longer perform services on this breed. From the voice mail, it sounded like your chow is also stubborn--not a good choice of dogs for us to risk our careers with." They proceeded to recommend that he get sedation grooming. While I respect this company's right to decline any dog or service, I do feel sad that my dog was rejected before they got to know him and his needs. I am also sad that the company did not call me to ask any clarifying questions. They simply rejected him because of his breed. If you have a dog breed that is stereotypically perceived as stubborn or aggressive, I would take your business elsewhere. I wonder how they handle other dogs as well, such as rescues with trauma. Or any other dog that is scared of their nails being cut. -2 stars off for customer service. I would like to rate their grooming too, but unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity. read more

The reasons I have given them 2 stars are follows- 1. When I picked up my shihtzu, I noticed that she had some hair in front of her eye. So I asked the groomer (Stephanie) to clean that out. Stephanie was more than happy to take care of it. However, she didn't secure my shihtzu on to the table. No lease, no restrain whatsoever. Imagine my surprise when I see that there are big scissors near my shihtzu's eyes and my shihtzu can easily move her head. What if something had gone wrong and my shihtzu was hurt? How do I trust that this is not happening behind my back, when my dogs stay there for full grooming? 2. I thought of giving them another chance by booking with Rachel. So I called in requesting for an appointment with Rachel. However, the response I got was if I had booked with Stephanie previously, I have to stay with Stephanie. I started bringing both of my Bichon Frise dogs to Rachel's Dog Grooming around May 2023 after reading many of the other Yelp reviews left here. From the first moment I got in contact with Rachel's Dog Grooming, I was impressed. The receptionist was very knowledgeable, kind, welcoming, and understanding - she was clear right from the jump about what she needed from us to prepare us for our first visit (vaccination records, dog breed info, contact info, etc.). When we arrived with both of my Bichons, the atmosphere was homey and warm - neither of my dogs looked nervous or stressed (despite often having separation anxiety) and the entire staff greeted us. Stephanie was also phenomenal - she is a great listener and a very confident, experienced groomer who took the time to ask me for my preferences on how they should be groomed. This put me at ease immediately and gave me the peace of mind I needed that my dogs were in great hands! When it was time to pick them up (just about 2 hours later (~1 hour for each dog), I was impressed at how detail-oriented Stephanie was with their grooming and how efficient the service was. Since my first visit to Rachel's Dog Grooming, the entire staff has continued to be very consistent in their service - they are always very communicative and focused on building a relationship with each dog (and family) that comes in. Stephanie also takes the time to educate her clients on how to best maintain grooms between visits. It is clear how much passion drives this business every day. When I went to pick up both of my Bichons at our most recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Stephanie had observed my older Bichon's comedone condition while cleaning his ear. This is not a condition that I had ever mentioned to the staff before, so having them point this out to me as an observation when I went to pick my dogs up was impressive, further affirming how much care and attention goes into each pet that they work with. My family members also pointed out how there is rarely any loud whining or barking when you enter the facility - all of the dogs there are noticeably at ease and comfortable and I can't thank the staff at Rachel's Dog Grooming enough for all the work they put into making this a place where owners can trust that their pets' best interests come first and that they will be well taken care of! read more

Rachel has been grooming my dogs for a decade. When I found out she was no longer at HSSV, I was really bummed. She's the only groomer that I trust with my babies. She is especially great at handling and grooming my 17 year old Maltipoo, Fuzzy. He's used to her. After looking for a new groomer in our area, I felt compelled to find Rachel as I was nervous about trying a new groomer. Fuzzy was diagnosed with heart failure late last year and was slowing down so I felt nervous about him going to someone else (I feared he would get a heart attack in the middle of a bath or cut). He was already matted (not severely at all) and needed a cut badly. I ended up doing a Google search to find Rachel and that's how I discovered she opened her own business (Hooray!). I immediately contacted her place and easily made an appointment for Fuzzy and King. When I came to drop off my fur babies last Friday, I was able to tour her place and it's so nice, clean, and welcoming! My dogs were calm and so were the other dogs that were there. What I love about Rachel is that she's truly a dog lover and it shows in her work and her handling. She's very easy to talk to and I love how she interacts and treats my babies. I'm always happy with how they look after their grooming session. Even when I had Chubby (my wirehair JRT who already crossed the rainbow bridge), she always did an awesome job cleaning him up. Another thing I love about Rachel is that she doesn't judge. I've been guilty of bringing in Fuzzy in a matted state (I know I can be a bad parent about that) and I recall being lectured by a previous groomer at PetSmart before I met Rachel. This groomer made me feel so bad that I was embarrassed to bring him in for future cuts. She made me feel I didn't deserve to be a pet parent. With that I'm thankful too because I wouldn't have found Rachel if it wasn't for that. Fuzzy has a lot of hair for his breed but I've never left him in a severe state. He is well spoiled at home and on trips when we take him. Rachel's prices are reasonable for services. Her client list has been growing rapidly and so it could take sometime to get an appointment but to me it's worth the wait. For my fur babies she is the best! Congrats, Rachel on your new business! It truly pains me to have to write this review, as we have been customers of Rachel's since back when she worked at the Humane Society. We loved the supportive, flexible, positive environment where we once brought our dogs for grooming. Have we had to cancel appointments? Absolutely! Has she had to cancel and reschedule? Absolutely! Still, we worked together to ensure that our dogs received the best possible care. Lately (the last year or so), the customer service has plummeted. We continued to bring our dogs there, because we felt a loyalty to Rachel from the past. Now however, the focus is truly on the bottom line, not the dogs, and in my opinion to the trick to running a successful business is to never let the customer feel like you are only in it for the money. The lady who runs the front desk doesn't seem to like people or even dogs for that matter. Every phone conversation and face-to-face interaction has been rude and leaving us feeling like we are not valued customers. We haven't seen Rachel, since she is the one doing the grooming, so our only interaction with the business has been her front desk attendant. If you are solely bringing your pet here for grooming, Rachel does a good job. If you would like a positive customer service experience, take your business elsewhere. I would rather pay more for someone who treats customers with kindness and respect. We would happily return if she brings back the customer service level from back in the Humane Society days. read more
