My boyfriend and I traveled to SC to visit my best friend; on the way down he suggested visiting Darlington! We were making this our "pit stop" for food and drove through the night and morning- we were excited to eat! Immediate friendly greeting and directions on just seating yourself, pleasant staff as I even had to make them wait while I had forgotten my wallet in the car! I got a BLT and my boyfriend got a burger, I stole a bite of his and it was amazing, just as my BLT was!! We both ordered a beer and were waited on and fed in a timely fashion. Everything they have on display is so cool, I think we got one of the best seats in the house looking at all of the signed names on the wall! We will definitely be back as a stop during our travels! First of all, the food was good. I'll say that first. When we visited, it was Friday of race week. When we walked in, we were told to sit anywhere. There was only one table in the main dining room, but it was a big table that sat 8-10. So we walked to the other dining room, where we sat at a table for 4. There were 4 or 5 tables filled with people. After about 5 minutes someone asked us what we wanted to drink. We told her and she brought out drinks and a menu. We waited and waited. The other people in the back dining room, ordered, got their food and left. We kept looking at the servers, hoping someone was OUR server. At this point it was almost comical at the amount of people who ignored us. There were 4 people who came in that room, cleaning tables, switching the tablecloths, taping the tablecloths to the tables, all while the 2 of us sat, with menus still in hand, and just watched. Then I noticed someone notice us and they talked amongst themselves, I guess to decide which one they'd send to take our order. The loser, I suppose, came and apologized for our wait (ya think), and took our order. At this point, I looked my timeline and we had been there for an hour and 20 minutes. By the time we did get our food, it was 34 minutes later. No one ever came back and checked on us, ever, nor one time. Not knowing how long it would take someone to bring our check , we went up front to the register to ask for it. I'm gonna stop right here and say that I know restaurants sometimes have a bad day, but you just gotta own up to it. The lady punched in our ticket and told us the amount we owed. No "We are so sorry for your wait" or "Let us get you a dessert". Nothing. No one said anything whatsoever. Nada. "Why didn't we just get up and leave? We were in town for the 2023 Southern 500 and went to this gem on Saturday. NASCAR memorabilia all over the place. As we were leaving in walked Mike Helton of NASCAR and then Clay Campbell president of Martinsville Speedway. A must visit if you are in town for racing. She had a calm and sweet demener and went above and beyond when I asked if I could buy three ribeye for my backyard kitchen! When I entered, I directed a question to the owner, bar, or restaurant? Located right beside the Darlington Raceway, this is a "must go" for the diehard NASCAR fan. This hole in the wall has lots of NASCAR stuff over the walls - especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. I was working in Hartsville, and when I spoke to a couple from Darlington, they suggested this place and told me the hamburger steak was THE thing to order - so I did! It comes with gravy as well as your choice of onins, cheese and gravy, plus fries, and salad. It was a good suggestion! I had gravy and cheese. Good flavor, good portion size. The fries were crispy. Salad was simple lettuce and chopped tomato with dressing. Pleasant employees and a strong following of locals are here. I enjoyed my lunch, and hope to eat here again if I am in the area. read more

Little frustrated. Been here twice and everything was showing they were open but didn't find out until I arrived they were closed for the day. Called the restaurant as well and no change to the recording. Both times I've tried to come there were other people who were pulling in to eat also. We stopped here after being on the road all day & it was perfect. The food was excellent-best fresh cut fries I've ever had & real chicken tenders-not frozen. We were all excited to try this restaurant. After waiting for approximately 45 minutes for our food to arrive we started to chow down. As my husband is eating his hamburger steak he proceeded to pull a hair out of his mouth, talk about gross. Food is very good. I used to eat from there once a week but now hardly ever go. Prices have really gone out of sight higher. They are more of a cater style restaurant for Car Dealers on Thursdays and Racefans when it's here. It is located right beside Raceway and you will be lucky to find a place to park. They have a small parking lot and at Racetime it is filled with souvenir trailers and if you can't get there by walking you will never eat there. They surely do not think of locals. Stopped here with my son after a car show at the track. Old Nascar hole-in-the wall kinda place. Had a wonderful waitress Meghan, who was very friendly and kept filling our drinks too. I ordered the double cheeseburger with AW, which is loaded with most condiments and chili too. I figured it would be a sloppy mess. It wasn't. It actually stayed together and was one of the best burgers I've had in quite a while! We split mozz sticks and small fries, which seemed to be hand cut too. When we want to get fancy in Darlington, we head on over to the Raceway Grill! The ambience is one of a kind with racing memorabilia everywhere and a nice hometown diner kind of feel. We always order the Ribeye steaks. I've always heard that the T-Bones are kind of gristly there so I stay away. I have ordered a hot dog with slaw and chili and it was good and I always have trouble when I try to make myself stop eating my fries (because they are delicious). I have noticed that the hamburger steak might be their signature dish, because everybody is always ordering that whenever we go. Be sure that you are in good company when you go and not on a time limit because it can take a while to bring out your food. They do serve beer in cans, so you can always choose to get a little tipsy during your wait. They don't deny these long waits, in fact, they keep a disclaimer at the front letting you know that they prepare their food fresh and it might take a while. I feel like sometimes it takes way too long, but that's just my opinion. If you don't feel like waiting you can just call ahead and go pick your order up when it is ready. Sometimes on weekend nights it can crowd up quickly, so keep that in mind. Also bring your cash or check because they do not accept credit cards. read more

6 of us on a trip to GA from VA we decided to stop by the Raceway Grill for lunch. We were fortunate enough to miss the lunch crowd and it gave us a chance to talk with the owner. The owner is a great guy. We talked for a good bit about all sorts of thing including what locals came to eat. He also mentioned to us that the antique soda coolers house the coldest beer in the county. The owner recommended the "Buck Wild" wings. We tried the Buck Wild, Hot, teriyaki, and a cup of the "house hot sauce" on the side. They were all awesome wings and the house hot sauce had some heat but it also had an incredible taste which many hot sauces lac. I had the hamburger steak the way the owner makes his and it too was awesome. Such a simple dish but the flavors were outstanding and the fries! Hand cut daily! Fried to perfection! I also tried a bite of the pork chop and I am telling you it was tender and juicy, it may even be better than a filet mignon. I am getting the chops next time. Our waitress was very good too and if you leave there hungry it was your own fault. I am telling you if you like to try local mom and pop type restaurants and/or are a NASCAR fan you need to stop by and eat at the Raceway Grill. Keep in mind to check their hours.
