I recently stopped by Ra Coffee Company in Goose Creek and wanted to share our experience. One…read morething I always appreciate right off the bat is that they offer an outdoor patio that's pet-friendly -- huge bonus for anyone who likes to bring their pup along for coffee runs. This visit was a drive-thru order for us. They did let us know they were pretty busy, which is totally understandable, but I will say the wait was a bit on the longer side before we got our drinks. As for the coffee itself -- my husband ordered a decaf latte with tiramisu syrup, and unfortunately the flavor fell a little flat. He mentioned it tasted very weak overall, and the tiramisu didn't really come through at all. I ordered a decaf latte with cookie dough syrup. Mine was decent -- the coffee itself tasted good -- but similar to his, the syrup flavor didn't quite match what I expected. It didn't really give that cookie-dough taste, just a light sweetness. Price-wise, it came to just under $15 for one medium decaf latte and one large decaf latte with syrups, which feels pretty fair for specialty coffee drinks. Overall, not a bad stop -- especially if you're looking for a pet-friendly coffee spot with a patio -- but I do wish the flavored syrups had been a bit stronger and more true to taste. I'd be open to trying them again and exploring other flavors on the menu.

They also have delicious pastries, and I recommend their red velvet cinnamon roll. I liked their indoor seating area, where I got some work done; the noise level was decent and not distracting. My only feedback is that the drive thru could be managed better. A barista was attending to us at one point at the drive thru window and later forgot us... Another stepped in and asked if we had been helped yet, which we hadn't. Otherwise, it's a great coffee shop in Goose Creek!

While we…read morewere paying, one of the baristas noticed my husband's military ID and kindly applied a discount. It was completely unexpected, and we really appreciated the gesture. The matcha was excellent and ended up being one of my favorites from our foodie week in Charleston. It was smooth, not bitter at all, and perfectly sweetened. So many places either make matcha too grassy or overload it with sweetener, but this one was really well balanced. I'd definitely stop by again the next time we're in town.

What follows is the marching orders to all other places doing the same thing. Give me a McDonalds with from the 80s with an exterior that dared to be unique, not part of the 1984 (read the book) agenda. This brings me to Summit coffee; I absolutely hate the exterior. Devoid of life, soul and any unique presence. However, I'm not really here to write about a drab exterior but coffee! Let's go inside, shall we? Summit coffee establishment is located is on the outskirts of Nexton proper, easily accessible by foot and with a sterile atmosphere. One oddity I noticed is the place doesn't smell of coffee, which I found interesting. Sadly the inside is as lifeless as outside. It looks like a they paid a cleaner to remove all vestiges of life while only leaving a spec here or there to meet a quote. Ok, enough with aesthetics as I've complained enough, The staff is quick to help out and offer good suggestions when they're asked. Being a former comedian, I tried to whip up some jokes to compensate for my utter boredom, the ladies were nice enough to laugh. Needless to say, the women here had a heart. They made good suggestions but I was curious why their pastry display only had like a handful of items, did they make them or get them from the grocery store? I don't know but I was only here for coffee. I did like some of the creativity - a banana creampie latte - sounds like something.... Nevermind but all props for creativity. Birthday cake latte didn't sound good for the waistline but another attempt at creativity - I love it! But I opted to go for my own flavor. A lack of options for addins, I mean literally no hazelnut, almond etc. Well, I did the best I could - Latte with 2 shots caramel and 1 vanilla. I can honestly say it was "mid" at best. The roast didn't resonate while the lack of options made it feel so generic like I couldn't play the part of an evil scientist mixing a crazy concoction. But it beats McDonalds. Oh, they do have "the world's best granola" which I made several jokes about, even encouraging other customers by saying "if you were in France and ordered granola, they would talk about Summit's granola, after all it's the world's best!" Yes, I was being the overfriendly annoying customer, b/c I was bored. At least there were some laughs. Sadly, there's nothing about Summit that stands out. I hate saying that for local businesses but I want to be authentic. Stop by if .... Well, I'm not sure why so just stop by, I guess.

What's better than a piping hot cup of fresh Joe, or... for those who defy the norm, iced coffee? I…read morecan think of many things and being a former comedian, I'll refrain from stating. Meeting up for a coffee date I got to Magnolias a little early to settle in. The place is interesting and seems authentic, not like those damn yuppy and pretentious coffee shops with the late 90s liberal sitting in the corner writing the next "great American novel." No, this is a place pregnant ladies come with their family to get some coffee and what appears to be really good food. The place has nice wood tones on the floors and tables with simple seating and fake plants, which I can appreciate b/c I too have fake plants at my house b/c I kill live ones! As for the staff, they're prompt and receptive of what you want to drink as well as giving suggestions. I got there when a much younger late 20 something was working so I tried to spark up a conversation. The young lady looked American, blonde and cute but when she spoke pure Latino! Oddly enough I was meeting a 33-year-old Latino for our first date here (yes, I brushed up on my Spanish, but I just moved from Austin so np here). She was a nice lady but she did forget about my drink order so not as good of a barista as one might desire. But honestly, I was superficial at the moment and she was cute so I overlooked the imperfection. The case had some tasty looking treats like croissants but I refrained. My advice is try one! While I'm a medium roast coffee kind of guy and I like my coffee like the women I date; hot, sweet and blonde. I vary my selection by what I'm in the mood for, sometimes latte, sometimes hot or iced, sometimes mocha, you get the drift; and yes I'm talking about coffee (get your mind out of the gutter). But what I do appreciate is creativity in a beverage and a joint with the courage to put a creation on their menu, Magnolias doesn't have that as they're more straight forward. Instead I opted for the latte with 2 shots caramel, 1 vanilla and one toasted marshmello; try it you'll thank me later. I just wish they had more options like almond. Oh to add, I ordered my date a latte and she acted as if it was water and downed it in 5 minutes, so much for sipping and enjoying. In summary, Magnolia's coffee is really good with what looks as great food. Add to that they create an environment where one can feel safe while sitting inside or just stopping by for a quick interaction with nice employees while waiting for food and it's a recipe for success. While I didn't sample their "edibles" (how's my parking?) they looked wonderful. To finish, the employees are great people, the ambiance is fun and the coffee is great. Stop by if you want something good to pick yourself up or rub elbows with a future leader of America.

We ordered the chai latte, cold brew with caramel and oat milk, and a slice of earl grey carrot cake. We added sweet coconut cold foam to both drinks. I was astonished to pay $19 for those 2 drinks and another $8 for a very small slice of cake. Chai latte- Found it to be okay...nothing super special about it. Cold brew- It reminded me of this specific sesame grain drink with barely any coffee taste. Could not finish. Carrot cake- It was moist and the frosting was good. No part of it tasted like earl grey imo. I would skip on the sweet coconut cold foam as it barely provides sweetness to your drink, which in turn, is not worth the additional cost. Overall, it was a nice place to cool down and the atmosphere was alright. The interior is aesthetic and well designed. Coffee is not really special and cake is good. Wallet may shed a tear.
