The "diagnosis" amounted to briefly checking and SMELLING the gas cap, yet we were charged $150 for that alone. Afterward, we were told we owed an additional $75 that had not been clearly discussed upfront. When we questioned the extra charge, we were told the balance could be sent to collections, which felt unnecessarily aggressive given the situation. The biggest issue was the lack of transparency around pricing and what services were actually being performed. If you do choose to work with them, I highly recommend getting a detailed quote in writing before agreeing to anything. Overall, this was a frustrating experience that left us feeling taken advantage of during an already stressful time. So disappointing. EDIT: Sent threats and called me names after leaving this review... Screenshots attached. Saw his reply To this post, we sent $75 before you came and $75 after you showed up. That would be $150. Then, sent you the other $75 today after you decided to cuss out my boyfriend and threatened him multiple times. Be forewarned, however; with two incredible mechanics, they get backed-up quickly. Sometimes you need to wait a week or more for an appointment so plan your emergencies accordingly. All kidding aside, Butch's Auto will treat you with respect and will tell you when something needs to be done right away or if it can wait until you get your tax refund.

I totally trust these guys and have been taking all my cars here for years and honestly never felt they try to take advantage of me. If I did I would remove my car and leave a poor review. They may be a little more expensive than some but I think you pay for what you get. In my industry we have a sign in out office that reads fast, cheap or good... pick two because you can't get all three. I have tried another shop in McHenry a few years ago that a friend recommended. The car was there for 3 days and I called because I hadn't heard anything. They stated that they were going to look at it the next day ( 4 working days later). I picked it up and brought it to North Town and was driving it two days later. I really have never had a bad experience here and do trust them.
