If I could leave negative stars for this business I would leave them. I left my 6 year old Great Pyrenees to board while I was on vacation with my family. My parents boarded her sister and cousin too. I didn't hear from the facility until day 6 asking if they could give the dogs chicken to entice them to eat. I said yes. The next morning, day 7, I got a call, they wanted to take her to the vet because she had "mucus". I asked if they thought she might be homesick and getting a cold. They said, yes, maybe. I told them they could take her to my vet or the closer vet location to them might get her in quicker. If they couldn't get an appt until the next day, I said I would be home around 2:30 and I could take her. They said, oh good. (No urgency. Didn't say, oh no, she needs to go now)
Then I got a text saying they got her an appt at 2:30 at my vet and to call and authorize them bringing her. I did that. At 2:18 I got a call from my vet saying my dog had just arrived and didn't look good. She had a temp of 108.4. I was in shock. They needed to do x-rays. I said yes. They told me they needed to get her temp down to around 102 to do x-rays. It takes time. They would call me back. About an hour later I got a call. They were able to get her temp to 102 and did x-rays. They showed signs of renal failure. I was so sick. They said she needed to go to ER vet. I asked, how is this happening? She said she thought my dog had a heat stroke. They transported my dog to the ER vet. The ER vet did testing and called me back. She said, my dogs organs were all shutting down. Anything that had happened to her was not reversible after having the excessive temp of 108.4. She said she may have brain damage. I was devastated. I asked, what do I do? She told me she could do things to try to keep her a few hours (she knew we were away) but she said she couldn't guarantee it. I asked, what do I do? She said the humane thing to do would be to euthanize my dog. . I was crushed. How is my beautiful healthy dog dying? And I'm not there for her. I asked the vet to put the phone to her ear. I needed to tell her we loved her. We were so sorry for her to be there without us. It was awful. We came home without our dog. Two days passed. We didn't hear from the boarder. We went to see him and ask what happened. He told us he didn't know. He said my dog NEVER settled. The other two did but mine never did. She paced. I asked why didn't he call me a day or two in? He said it's not uncommon for a boarded dog not to settle. I told him I disagree. I should have known. Then we asked how she got to 108.4? Was she out all day during the heat wave? He said she was never out more than 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening to do her business. ( he told my vet, no more than 20 minutes). Then I asked, how does a dog have "mucus" and then die? He said, you saw the video. I was confused. What video? He said, Friday morning, the day she died, his brother and Ashley were there before him. They sent him a video of my dog and he told them to ask me if she could go to the vet. I said, send me the video. He said he didn't have it on the phone he was holding. I told him to get it and send it. He did. It's awful. Her nose is completely dried out. Covered in dried out yellow green mucus and she is wheezing. She had labored breathing and looks so sad. That video shows she should have gone to the vet or ER immediately. He didn't share that with me or my vet. Didn't express her condition to me or the vet. This all could have been resolved had he reached out to me to tell me she was stressed. This is disgraceful. I don't have my dog because they didn't care for her. They were inspected by the dog warden and passed. They had 91 dogs at that visit. That is crazy. Obviously they can't care for that many dogs. Three weeks before my dog died while under their care, another dog died. This has to stop. Be aware. My family is forever changed because of this. read more
