We told him what the behaviors of concern were (leash reactivity, aggression toward other dogs and sometimes people, stubbornness) he assured us that he could address these issues. So, obviously we assume that Ross is going to train our dog. So I drop him off and return at the end of day 1 and who's his trainer? A very young and very inexperienced girl who askes me: "so what do you want me to work on? Today we worked on come, sit, and stay." What??? Did Ross not speak to you and tell you what our behaviors of concern are? Obviously not. And, our dog already knows come, sit, and stay. The review at the end of the day is supposed to be 1 hour but it's lucky if it's 20 minutes and it's obvious the girl wants to leave. Since we've already paid, I continue to take our dog for lessons 2, 3, and 4 and it's merely more of the same: come, sit, stay, place, etc. with very short reviews at the end of the day. After lesson 4 the trainer says, well next week is your last lesson and it's 1 hour of review. 1 hour? The website clearly says 5 DAYS of lessons. Feeling very frustrated we skip it. That was weeks ago, think anyone has called us? Nope. Around lesson 3 though, the trainer did recommend the 1 or 2 week all day boarding/training program at another $2000-3000. Oh yeah, lets waste even more money. I would clearly NOT recommend this facility as they misrepresent who will train your dog and what they're capabilities are. It took us a long time to raise enough money for this training so it's really a shame nothing was accomplished from it and our dog's behavior has not changed.

I recently adopted a 9-month old dog and wanted to jump into training right away. I retained…read moresomeone who lived very close to me and had great reviews, but after a few sessions I realized our schedules were not compatible; I was not getting consistency and reliability from her. It's important for me to make progress with my dog, so I Googled alternate options and stumbled upon Alex's page. I called him on a Friday and he picked up the phone right away. We spoke for a while about my needs and he came out the following Tuesday for what was supposed to be a 2-hour visit. I fell in love with him immediately, he is not only so personable and likable on his own, but he really takes the time to LISTEN to what you need and work on those things right away. I had mentioned my priorities to my previous trainer, but I found that she was teaching my dog commands that didn't actually accomplish what I was after. In our first meeting, Alex worked on SO MANY of my priorities. He got my dog to go into her crate on command, taught her to "stay," showed me how to "walk with" my dog better on her leash, and (using a 30' leash outdoors) started working on recall with her. We were so immersed in what was going on that Alex started to go a little bit over our time, but he didn't want to stop because we were making such great progress. I told him if he wanted to give me a third hour right then and there that I was prepared to pay for it, and he did!! I learned a lot of things from Alex myself during our first meeting, like how to employ the use of "deltas" (which my old trainer never once mentioned) and how non-verbal cues are arguably more important than verbal ones. Again, my old trainer actually discouraged me from using hand motions, but once incorporating them into my routine I noticed that my dog was much more compliant than she had been. Another positive difference between my old trainer and Alex is he really takes the time to teach you why he's doing what he's doing, and encourages you to participate. My old trainer just taught my dog a command and had me replicate/practice when she left. Alex really makes you feel like you are a part of the teaching process. After our private session Alex recommended some "Small Group Therapy" for my pup. He came at noon on a Thursday to pick up my dog and she proceeded to go on a several-hour outing with his two chihuahuas and a dog he was fostering. The entire time he was out with her he was recording and sharing videos on an iCloud album. It was INCREDIBLE to not only see everything that was happening, but to hear him narrate why he was doing the things he was doing. I could not get enough of his videos and felt like I was there during the session. On top of Alex's excellent communication, punctuality, reliability, friendliness, competency, and effectiveness, his rates are OUTRAGEOUS in the BEST way! I truly believe he is under-charging for his services. I can get three hours with Alex for less than I paid for one hour with my prior trainer, and I feel much better about the work that is done during that timeframe. I adore Alex, and most importantly, what he is doing works. He really gets into the mind of your dog, and has such a wonderful way of connecting with them and their needs. I am elated to keep our work going - my pup has lots more Small Group Therapy outings in her future and it's wonderful that I have the option to use him one-on-one to teach her even more commands in the house. One day I hope to move on from essential commands to more fun ones, like "roll over" or "go get X toy."

We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with BPF!…read more Before coming here, we had previously worked with another trainer and took group classes, but we just could not seem to get some basic manners down. When we started with BPF we could barely walk our 1 y/o Aussiedor Pepper. She would pull us almost to the point of injury, while lunging and barking at everything she saw. We could not walk within 40ft of another dog, animal, or bicyclist or she would become extremely reactive as well. I would be in tears most days after our short walks. Initially, she was also not very friendly towards any other dogs. After speaking with Michael, we decided to sign Pepper up for the Excellent Dog Program for 8 weeks of private lessons. The first 6 lessons were in our home and neighborhood. We were shown different techniques, commands, and given training tools to make walks more enjoyable & relaxed for both Pepper and our family. We practiced our walking commands every day, starting with no distractions, and gradually working our way up. We noticed a difference right from week 1! Our final 2 lessons we were invited up to the beautiful BPF facility for Pepper to learn how to properly socialize with other dogs. She met 4 other dogs while Michael showed us things that should be corrected and body language to pay attention to when dogs our playing. Michael has such great knowledge and is very easy to talk to! We loved working with him. The skill-set & knowledge the Best Paw Forward team has provided us was phenomenal. We are now able to take Pepper on mile plus walks everyday, where we can pass whoever or whatever on the same sidewalk with never more than a minor tug of excitement. We have also been able to take her on some of our favorite local hiking trails! She has also now successfully been introduced to 4-5 new dogs in the neighborhood and will even play bow with a few of them. We could not be happier. We absolutely recommend this training team to anyone that listens! We cannot wait to work with them again in the near future when we bring home puppy #2.

I'm still trying to figure out why this school was so highly recommended to us by three different…read morepeople. We brought our dog here last year and I was absolutely not impressed. First of all, the facility and its surrounding area is very isolated and is worse in the dark. I'm not the only one who said this. Secondly, I still have reservations about the instructor's methods. She appears to be rather scattered, talks too fast, and was quite rough with some dogs. Our dog actually yelped when she grabbed his hind legs. Her manner can be intimidating one minute, then nice the next--with people and with dogs. Also, she didn't follow up with my e-mails or phone calls; I had to keep after her. Years ago, we had taken our GSD to a school in Morris County---very highly recommended. The complete opposite of TWK. He knew what he was doing. I've had dogs my whole life and know what to look for.

There are many approaches to training dogs as there are dog trainers, but they do fall under two…read morelarge umbrellas - positive re-enforcement and negative re-enforcement. Many of the television trainers fall under the negative re-enforcement umbrella, and their methods are persuasive. However, as dog owners who have tried these methods, they do not work for the long run. Molly and Kindred Companions uses the positive re-enforcement approach, and we have a good feeling that this will work much better for our dog, Mochi. She was focused Mochi from the moment she entered our house. She came with tons of credentials and experience under her belt. She was recommended by local social media groups, and our veterinarian recommended her as well. She is obviously well-trained, and was very willing to share what she has learned about dogs in order to help us better read Mochi's queues. She taught us to recognize queues before Mochi has to ratchet them up, re-enforcing his good behaviors of trying to govern himself and rewarding these behaviors, resetting his behaviors to with which he has become comfortable. Mochi has more work to do, but we are confident that Molly has a good approach which will help Mochi with some of his problem areas and give him the tools to be more uder control in stressful situations. I also have confidence that we will better understand what he is trying to tell us so that we can help him to feel comfortable when he looks to us for guidance.

Karen has been our walker for the last several months and she is a very talented photographer!! Attached are some of the shots she sent me. How nice is it to receive these pictures to brighten my day?? All of the walkers are always concerned about the health and happiness of my 'boys'. On occasion my husband has been home when Karen pulls up and he said the boys bark and are always so excited to see her....her arrival means fun is in store!! I highly recommend Jen and her team! They take the time to interact with the cats after feeding and cleanup happens. They provide daily feedback on the app via messages and photos. I love that detail! They even bring in my mail and take out the garbage the evening before garbage day, if I request the service. The app makes it extremely easy to create an account with the service, as well as book visits, pay your invoices online and communicate with the team. Everyone is very responsive and helpful.
